Perhaps one reason I dislike the SSR so much is b/c they keep showing up in mostly all of our local shows and cruises.........sometimes 2 or more at the same event. If I want to look at new stuff I'll go to the nearest wal mart parking lot, thank you.:boring:

Thats true but they did kill off the bird and maro which would allow them to make a new one on another chassis..the f-body chassis is antiquated and dead.

I have not heard anything about the st therese plant and anything other than f-bodies....not arguing, just trying to sort it all out. I don't think there is any way anyone could stop GM from building a Camaro anywhere they want.

Its kinda sad, now the bean counters will have more ammo against rear wheel drive sport coupes....but read this:

    JOE,
I still say your Riviera is the best looking car for class and sportiness that I have ever seen. And they ride like a dream.
And the dashboard is really cool too with all that chrome!
I think the new Chev. SSR pick up looks alot like your Riviera,
don't ya think? Just kidding, just kidding!!!

Not cool looking but cool to have and see around the roads. This is the "SS UTE"

Check out their site, the engine options usually include the 5.7 we find in our GTO.:Dou:

    EEE Straight out of lo-cash!

I lived in Australia a couple of years ago, just when the new "Monaro" was coming out. They had apparently had a Monaro in the 60's/70's that was much loved and now everybody was all excited about this new one. Not that Holden didn't make any quick cars before this one was on it's way. They had some pretty bad machines going around town. Coming stock with 18' wheels and drilled disks. I think some even came with supercharged V8s. All before the Monaro/GTO.
To me, the car looks like any other car more or less. The new cars are just too soapy, even the Cadillacs with the edgy look doesn't do it for me. Can't they just sacrifice some economy for some chrome! A deep 3D grill, with lights like the eyes of a cobra. Big bulges over the rear wheels, and a stance like it's about to be driven up side down in a tunnel. Then new Mustang is 3/4 of the way there, but I think it still has some issues. There's a race version of it though, which I think looks pretty damn good!
And by the way, if Ferrari can put out dream machines year after year, why can't other manufacturers make that effort. Oh no, it has to look like a soap!

Ferraris cost a zillion and they make a handful a year by hand, why can't my Timex look like a Rolex? LOL.

Oh, and Ferarris really look sucky, look like melted soap or wedges of cheese, there seems to be a fair few around here.

I kinda like the new GTO. We have the Monaro over here, they just changed the badges to say "Vauxhall".

If the new GTO wasn't called GTO would you all hate it so much? If it was the "Pontiac Sportage" or something, would that be better? Is it the comparison with the old car you dislike so much or the fact its not styled the way you think it should be?

I don't know about the prices there but here its 30,000 - cheaper by a mile than a BMW M3, Jaguar XK8, Maserati coupe, Mercedes CLK-AMG or any of the other stuff its up against. It won't sell well here because its a gas guzzler.

I've not driven one of any of the four badges you can get on one (Holden, Opel, Vauxhall, Pontiac) but theres guys talking about getting our version and dressing it up with parts from the Pontiac to make it look more interesting...

TBH I still like the Mercury Marauder... :)

No offense Alistair, but when MG, Jaguar, or Triumph does a retroversion of one of their vehicles, then the over the pond perspective carries more weight. Here it doesn't.

These are muscle cars. They are American in their very essence; brutally powerful, over the top and overstated in most all respects. These vehicles are looked upon with universal distain by the Euro end of the car hobby.

These cars were made for our market and no other. These cars were made for American musclecar enthusiasts and no other. The market has spoken, not simply opinionated Buick owners. The entire package is a failure, not because I say so, but because Adam Smith says so.

This car is far from a Pontiac Aztec, but when considering from whence this car came, it might as well be one.

    gs4u2c Is that a 442?

For me it's the price and the looks. I consider Corvette a muscle car but just cannot afford one. Mustang (if price is what's published) is affordable and looks pretty good.
