I must say though, this is much nicer than the GTO. MUCH nicer.

Plus, it has an American tone to it which works.

While very cool looking, (I think the green car was a bad pic, because I've changed my mind somewhat), I think it is more like a Euro racer than a musclecar. Just look at this pic. Beautiful, but corvette-like.

I hope nobody is holding their breath for the return of the camaro or firebird. When GM closed it's plant in Canada the union employees complained that GM was doing so only to relocate to get cheaper labor (mexico/brazil) GM said that wasn't the reason and so now they are being held to their promise. As long as auto workers have a union GM can never build another f-body car without violating their contracts with the UAW. The millions they would be sued for would not make up for the money they would make selling the car, and, if the UAW stuck together, GM would have no one to build the car anyway.
I love my 68 Skylark but I must say the next car I buy will most likely be a Mustang. My parents' neighbor has 2 SVT Cobras (his & hers) My plan is to buy some Mustang that someone leased (got fleased) for 2 years at alot less than new car price, add a turbo or blower and enjoy good handling and A/C while getting over 20mpg. The new SVT cobra flat out beats ANY mustang ever built (including Boss 429) and handles better than any musclecar built in the old days. I absolutely love every GM musclecar built from 64 to 72, 84-87 GN's and Monte SS and nothing else the General has done in the last 30+ years.

I think you may be mistaken. GM agreed that if it resumed production of those models under that name they would once again be made in those same Canadian plants that lost the production run. In my opinion that is not an unreasonable request these days considering how quickly some corps are shipping our jobs offshore.

Whoa! that new Charger can't be any good, it doesn't have hidden headlights like many of the earlier cars! Doesn't look anything like the Chargers of old, LOL!

By the way the GTO does not sell for 40K, unless you have a dealer that marks then way up and your ok with paying that figure.

They already had those, but people bitched and complained about everything (driveline clunks, brakes that squeaked once in a while, fit and finish) so they dropped them....it was the camaro and firebird...

The guys that want the cars can't afford them, so they go after the people who can afford them but they aren't really interested....

The roof line and door indents are enough to honor the past. That new GTO does not have one styling que from the past. New designs are OK but you must recapture the past some how.

That charger has enough to keep my interest.

Pontiac blew it "Royally" with the making of this Honda Accord
look-a-like. What gives anyway? Who is signing off on the production of this car? Look at the SSR pick-up from Cheverolet,
At least when you see one it sends memories flowing all throughout the brain neurons that you are maybe back in the 50's
again. When I see a GTO...I want to see a GTO, not a wedge
shaped copy of a Ford Probe. JUNK IT, and fire the guy who
pooped this car out...AND START OVER!!! They say they might add
a hood scoop and hood tach next year. Give me a break! That's
like putting stripes on a dust-buster vacuum!
Can you tell I don't like it?

I am scrolling back on this thread right now to
catch another look at those two beauty's!!!!:3gears:

I AGREE with ERIC! FIRE the "guy" who 'pooped' this car out!!

    [all chanting, as one voice...]
    resign,resign,RESIGN,RESIGN, RESIGN, RESIGN,RESIGN,
continuing to get louder and LOUDER, with each passing moment...

How can the World's largest car manufacturer, with SO MANY PEOPLE working there, F'up THIS BADLY? :puzzled: :Do No: I mean jeez, I don't have ANY engineering or design degrees, but I'm sure that even I, could have designed the new GTO MUCH BETTER than ALL of the GEEKS and idiots working there now, :Dou:
Me thinks that those "Degree's" are NOT worth the toilet paper they are written on! :spank: :moonu:

    The 'King' is dead.. :(

and 'Furd' SUCKS! :blast: NEVER! :moonu:

    2004 GTO

We just got back from the GTO Nationals in Pontiac, MI. There were about a dozen of the new 2004 GTOs there (this was the 1st time I had ever seen one on the road). The owners I talked to said that they really liked their new GTO even if the styling wasn't that great. One guy brought up the question, "what other 2-door, 4-seat, American, RWD cars are there to choose from other than the Mustang?"

The rumors I was told for 2005: new colors (green), available without a spoiler, available with a sunroof, and available with an optional engine with ~400hp, scoop(s) on the hood coming.

I am not trying to defend the new GTO, but back in 1987 a Grand National wasn't exactly cheap and this car in stock trim is a better handler and faster (yes in the 1/4 mile). Hey think about it this way, the new GTO is a sleeper...usually everyone wants a car that is fast but doesn't look like it, now there is one and everyone hates it for that very reason. I personally don't think I need one but if my wife wants one for her next car maybe we can pick up a used one cheap in a year or two.

I saw one there that had a different set of wheels and a Ram Air hood that actually was functional. Not stunning but it was definitely an improvement. See the attached pic...

Sorry Jim, but that can never happen.

GM leveled the St. Therese plant where the F Bodies had been built.

If GM is to build F Bodies again, yes, they are bound by agreement with Canada to build them in St Therese, but they'll have to spend billions to build a new plant.

GM's level of stupidity and lack of foresight is astounding.

    GTO....oop, no it's a Dodge Avenger.

The red one above looks a little better with the hood scoops. Still looks like a GTP.
