Jeez! EVERYBODY told GM they wouldn't buy a new GOAT because it looks like a POS Grand Am and is priced too high for any bland-looking vehicle. Performance-oriented or not.

Now GM is amazed that they can't sell these things.

GET WITH IT, GM! Bob Lutz really let his ego get in the way of this one. Why in God's name would you bring back a classic marque for a 40th anniversary tribute and not make the car even remotely resemble the concept it is intended to honor? No hood scoop. No in-grille parking lights.

    And for over 30 grand???

There is absolutely nothing exciting about the new GTO. I saw one on the highway last week. It is a yawnmobile.

There was one in a car show I was in 2 weeks ago, first time I had really looked at one and I still feel the same as I did a year ago, its a slap in the face of the name...GTO, what a shame this is and I can't see anyway of fixing it. :spank:

Nope. But I have been in a commercial jet. Those go faster than any LS1, and they don't get my blood flowing, either:)

The outside of one of these cars isn't very sexy- GM did a great job designing the interior-that is one thing that lokks pretty cool.

The one thing that the automakers have to understand-there aren't that many people out there that can shell out roughly 40k
for a bland looking car like the GTO.

It's too bad that GM dropped the ball on this one.:(

I think GM took a "Its better than nothing" approach to designing the car. I feel GM felt the void left by the TA/Z could be filled with anything brought to market.

It looks like GM was wrong.

I have said it before and I will say it again..... It looks like an over grown Cavalier.

The 66 and 67 GTOs are one of the all time best looking cars ever made IMO. This "thing" they call a GTO now makes even the last GTO (the Nova body) look slick. Why is it that Ford and Chrysler can design awesome looking cars, and GM flounders?

GM at this point does not make one vehicle, besides the Corvette, that even remotely inspire me to want to own one.

  9. I liked the GTO when it was called a Monaro, and had a 450HP 427. Someone in GM's styling department really needs to get their act together.

Look at the bright side- these things may start getting big discounts if they aren't moving. I'd take one and take the savings to do some appearance/engine work.

I hate to say it, but the 2005 Mustang looks like a muscle car. It seems Ford will corner that market.

I couldn't agree more, that new Mustang looks killer.:TU:

  12. The already have the market around here, there's an unbelievable amount of mustangs of various generations running around up here. Mostly v6's, but a lot of gt's and even a few cobras. They're cheap and look nice, that's all you need to have a good combination.

I'll bet you didn't fly the jet either....

Point is, Yes its a discusting misuse of the GTO name but buick has stuck the GS plate on a few less than worthy cars too. That car in the picture couls have a 3-cyl in it by looks alone

......but it does have the LS-1. Like it or not, its one of the more potent , tuneable high HP engines available today

I may be strange, but I don't mind the exterior styling of the Aussie built GTO. Granted it does not pay homage to the older classic model GTOs. Again, I'm middle-aged and prefer sleeper cars without all the loud do dads, aero skirting, etc. I'll admit that it is/was overpriced for what it is and think that may be a major contributing factor to slow sales. I saw one in person and it looks much better in person than in pics. And yes, the interior is first rate and better than most anything GM has done by looks alone. Have not driven one but the reviews haven't been bad their either. Not trying to get in a flame war but only stating one man's opinion. $25,000-28,000 would have been more of an acceptable price range to market them in.

True Alan, but if you are driving one and stop at a light, the guy in the next car won't know this because the goat looks like a Sunbird/Grand Am. It would be tough to even get any stop-light action.

Shame too, because like you said, it is a hell of a platform to build on. If only they spent $100 more per car to design a real grille for it. And maybe another $100 for taillights. The 68+ goats had their Enduro front bumper and you knew by just looking at it that it was a goat.

I loved my 69 goat convertible.

Sigh. Gm. What a bunch of idiots.

Hey! My car resembles that remark! At least maybe the quality of the GTO is better than the rest of the garbage GM puts out in this country. I would certainly hope so, considering the price.
Never thought I would ever say "I wish I had bought a Ford!" The new mustangs are great.
GM won't realize that they can't sell these POS cars at luxury car prices until it's too late.

think ford got it right with the upcoming new mustang ! not a ford man , but i give them two thumbs for the new stang !
lutz needs to stand back & listen to the people .
the new gto surely is an overgrown cavalier . damn shame .
the gto has to have some semblance to the REAL gto .
maybe it is not too late to restyle the body .

Yeah, but wouldn't you be ticked off if you bought one of the current GTO's and they did that?

    I like the new GTO

I like the new GTO. My brother picked one up and it was only like 3 grand more than a Mustang Mach 1 and it comes with a hell of alot more power. I am not sure why anyone would think that the high prices for gasoline would not be the cause of low sale. SUV sales are also way down.
