Well, back form the Nationals and now I need to do some repairs..... nothing new for a race car I guess!

Cut a slick on some debris and had to constantly add air before each run. It was a pain but we got through it.

The best run of the week was a 9.56. I dropped out of Super Sixteen early (and went into GSR) thinking the bump was going to be near 8 seconds, when it wound up being 9.54 (I think). Either way I was very near the bump spot.... too close for me!

In the 3rd round of GSR I screwed up and I didn't realize that my opponent was going to "Deep Stage". Both lanes were staged and I got on the trans brake and floored it. By the time I realized he was deep staging, considerable time went by. After the yellow came on I let go of the button to have the car leave in third gear, (I think). Anyway I toasted the trans and most likely ballooned the converter. I guess it was time to freshen up the trans anyway! LOL I was able to still move and drive the car under it's own power.

Also two days before leaving for Bg, I discovered the culprit that was causing my loss of HP. I had 60%-70% cylinder leak-down in number 6 and all of the air was coming through the carb. I have a leaking intake valve. Not sure if it's warped, burned, nicked (from debris) or whatever. This winter I'll take the engine down and fix whatever it is that's causing the leak. I'll also put in some fresh rings and bearing and check everything else out while I'm in there. There is a total now of 83 passes on the car and engine. I'll check out the cam but I don't plan on replacing that unless needed for some strange reason.

Anyone interested in the car can contact me or wait until I get it all repaired and freshened up for spring of 2015.
No guarantees though, that the price will be the same in spring, depending on what I all do to it this winter. :Brow:

That would be the perfect Super Gas car for me but need lotto money or a great sponsor! I almost got the Super Street win last week but had to take runner up. I'm getting Freds 69 so then I would have 2 Super Gas cars with yours! What a dream that would be! I will let you know if money falls from the sky! I always tell my crew let's build a car like Steve's!

    Thanks Ron!!

I sure did get a lot of positive comments this year at the Nat's. Too bad I had mechanical issues slowing me down. I'll be back next year and run some very low 9's like the car is capable of. We'll see about selling it then. :)

Well you wanted to work on something so there you go! Let us know what you find. I'm curious myself what happens to a real Buick race engine when it slows down. On my stock set up I know the cylinders walls are wore out so I was going with that for losing power but last weekend it was trying to run 10.70's with 200 lbs in the trunk but the density altitude started out at -216 so this low compression 462 was running good! I should have dropped the timing back from 42@3000 but I like the wheelies it was pulling!

Do you notice any premature bearing failure while running 42 degrees of timing? From my experience that's a ton of timing. I run the 523 right at 32.

I have the Stinger so it retards 2 degrees every 1000 so at 5000 which would be around 38 degrees and I run around 6200 so about 36 but I haven't noticed that.

I think it would look absolutely sick with some black Weld Magnum RTS's

Ha, ha, that was actually my plan with the car before I listed it for sale! Who knows, after the repair session this winter I may still do that. I agree I think it would look really GOOD!

The car is still for sale even though I haven't advertised it lately. It's currently "apart" as I'm having the trans and converter rebuilt/freshened up and pulling the engine to get that pesky #6 intake valve repaired. I'm going to inspect the cylinder walls and bearings and replace bearings and rings if necessary.
I'm planning on having the car back together by late spring and maybe sooner if someone is interested in purchasing it. The problem is that I have a LOT of oil pans to build also and right now they take precedence.

Attached are a few more pictures for reference.

    Thanks,
    Steve

That car would look great coming out of my trailer at the race track to run Super Gas! I still want one of those Dominator rock deflectors and what is your price from low to high on those oil pans?

I keep looking at this car. Love everything about it. That was actually my plan was to do a white GSX street/strip car. Your car is badass! If I can sell a pile of Oldsmobiles,I'd buy it. We'll see what happens.

    Thanks Brian!

Yes, I keep looking at it too and thinking "why am I selling an $80K plus car for less than half its cost, especially when it only has 85 passes on it?"

It's too bad that life and other things change and evolve, but it's just the right thing to do at this point. Guess I'll look forward to building my next project, (street car) whatever that may be.
