Due to several reasons, (which I won't go into) I've decided to sell my GSX Drag Car.
    Some basics on the car;

It started out as a SUPER CLEAN (meaning NO rust) 1970 Skylark that came from Southern California.

It was started in 2003 and finished in 2010.

I spent a lot of time building a valid race car that has many show car features. I know that may not be of value to some, but it's the only way I know how to build a car.

    Some of the high points of the car;

    CHASSIS
S&W Back half and 10 point mild steel cage.
    Aluminum tubs.
    36” ladder bars.
    Wheelie bars.
9 Inch Ford housing with Strange center section, Pro Gears, Axles, etc.
4 wheel manual disc brakes. Wilwood in front and GM metric style in rear. Wilwood master and proportioning valve.
Stock front A-arms, powder coated with “loose” bushings. Droop control screws.
Parachute mount and cable, (behind rear license plate door). Never installed or used.
    Manual Steering.
Fuel Cell in trunk with fill door in deck lid.
Lower chassis tow point, mainly for winching. Roof mounted removable tow hook if towed with ATV, etc

    BODY
Steel 100% rust free shell. No rust repair anywhere on the car.
Rear wheel openings stretched 2” forward.
Fiberglass Hood, Bumpers, Deck Lid, & Doors. All VFN except custom Hood built by Craig in AZ.
Bumpers tucked and narrowed to fit body tightly.
The entire front end is removable with 2 pins, 6 bolts and 8 Dzus fasteners. Comes off in two minutes or less.
Doors lift off once front end is removed – no hardware.
Bumpers are attached with Dzus fasteners.
Hood is hinged with custom SRE lightweight hood hinges, or is completely removable by loosening up 4 extra Dzus fasteners. Foam under hood allows placement on roof.
Painted with #10-10 Apollo White base coat/clear coat. Hood stripes are custom painted while side stripes are vinyl.

    INTERIOR
    Aluminum skin interior & Carpet.
    Kirkey race seats.
    Splined hub removable steering wheel.
    5 point race Harness.
Full K&R race car wiring harness.
K&R Pro Switch Panel. (Upper mount on cage)
2nd custom build Switch Panel. (lower on dash)
K&R Pro-Cube Delay Box. Quick release mount and electronic disconnect for “box” or “no-box” racing.
    Full array of Autometer gauges.
2 Channel EGT Monitor. (one sensor on each side of engine)
    Lokar Interior Battery Disconnect.
B&M Shifter with Air Shift triggered by MSD Box.
MSD 7AL Full Ignition Box. (Hidden in glove box along with other modules and adjusters).
MSD Soft Rev Control and Pneumatic Throttle Stop. (Can use either one- drivers choice).
Trans Brake Button on steering wheel with plug in coil cord.

    DRIVETRAIN
All Engine work done by AM&P in Philpot, KY.
Stock block 455 with girdle and partial fill.
    14.19 to 1 Compression.
523 Cubic Inch, 4.400” stroke Crower Billet Crank, Scat Steel Rods, Custom Diamond Pistons.
Stage 2 Heads / TA SE with extensive port work & SRE mid rise plates.
Solid Lifter Cam with T&D Roller Rockers.
Wildcat Intake with 1050 Holley Dominator built by Bigs Performance.
    Custom Aluminum SRE Motor Plate
    SRE Steel Mid-Plate
Peterson Fluid Systems Oil/Vacuum Pump with SRE/Peterson drive.
    Peterson Vacuum Regulator.
High Output East Coast Alternator with SRE Alternator mount.
    Meziere Electric Water Pump.
MSD Billet Distributor with MSD Crank Trigger and SRE mount.
    SRE Fabricated Aluminum Valve Covers.
    SRE Fabricated Aluminum Oil Pan.
MasterLube Oil System (pre-lubes before start up and maintains oil pressure on the big end).
2-1/8” Custom Headers with Merge collectors & ceramic coating.
    Dual Odyssey batteries in trunk.
    Dynoed at AM&P 818.7 HP @ 6500 & 711.2 TQ @5400

Turbo 400 built by Dave Baeten.
ATI 10” “nitrous/blower" converter, (not spec'd for this vehicle but works ok).
    Hipster Trans Brake.
    Custom Dynotech Aluminum Driveshaft.
    CSR Transmission/Flexplate Shield.

    INFO
The car has gone a best of 9.31 when first ran in 2010. The next season (2011) it slowed some to mid nines and has been there ever since. I think the cylinders may have had a little rust on them from sitting (my fault) and it made the rings less effective, therefore dropping the power slightly. It runs very consistent even though it may be a little off on peak HP. It has a total of 73 passes on it and my plan was to run one more season before tear down and install new rings and bearings. (or new Tomahawk block). With a few slight changes this could be a N.A. 8 second ride.

The car ALWAYS launches straight and hard! Very fun and consistent car to drive!
The best 60 ft times were 1.21 with Hoosier Drag Slicks. These tires hook great in Bowling Green but spun like on ice at my local track, so I switched to Hoosier Bias Ply Drag Slicks. My 60 ft times are now fairly consistent from track to track, but have slowed to around 1.32-1.40, depending on tracks and conditions.

This car won the Super Sixteen in 2011 at the GS Nationals in Bowling Green, KY.

    $40K Turn Key
I have more than double that into the car NOT counting any of my labor, (which is about 95% of the total build labor), so please no low ball offers. Please... no tire kicking. Serious interests only, thank you.

There are quite a few spare parts, custom tools, etc that go with the car. I also have a new aluminum Tomahawk block that could be purchased separately if interested. The plan was to swap internals from the current engine and bump up the HP and reliability and run mid eights. The block is a raised cam version with 3” mains.

Sorry to hear this Steve, But I can tell anyone who hasn't seen this car but is thinking about buying it, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED, Steve does EVERYTHING one way and that's PERFECT. this car is as much show car as it is race car. No disappointments here.

    Thanks guys!

It's not that I have to sell it, but as I get older things are changing.... mind wise, health wise, etc.

In a nut shell, I want to buy or build a less expensive street/strip car (maybe truck?) that I can cruise with on occasion and still race every now and then. Also I seem to have a certain sickness.... the one where I prefer to be building something rather than playing with it!

    Steve,
What did it weigh race ready?

  9. Steve Reynolds

    Hi Gary,
The weight is right at #3000. If I were to remove some "not needed items" like the second battery, passengers seat, etc. I'm sure it would come in well under #3000. I was conscientious about weight when I built it, but I didn't obsess over it. I could have gone with a CM cage and left off a lot of things that aren't strictly needed, but I wanted the car to be a certain way and that's what I achieved. I was never after the title of fastest door-slammer or anything like that.

For a stock frame car I don't think the weight is too bad. It sure would be faster if it were a tube chassis!! But then what fun would it be without all those wheelies!!

    Hey Dan,
Yes, I hate to think of selling it but it's just the way it is. I'll still end up with something I can bring to the track from time to time, that's for certain!

Yes, I plan on being in BG with the X. I'm looking forward to it!!

Thanks Gary, You have one heck of a nice car there too!! Make it run!!

    I forgot to mention;

I'm not against a partial trade of some kind. I plan to start another Buick project anyway, something that I can race and still drive on the street. It would need to be half or less than half of the value of my car. (way less than half would be better!) I would be interested in projects at any level... from all original to near completion, or something that needs updating, etc. Other than the value not exceeding $20K, the only stipulation is that it would need to "trip my trigger" so to speak.

    Thanks,
    Steve

Tried to stop by today but got confused at your address... Theres one listed behind Holy Family Hospital on Western and 18th in Manty, and one listed off of old CH Q by Shoto. I actually thought you were west of 43 in Whitelaw by Branch... Was driving a blue clitaurus so we blended in but I didn't see any signs of a white GSX. Hmmmm... [IMG]
