I'll definately be there! I'll be staying at the Quality Inn along with the guys from our N.E. Chapter. I've been going ever since 1987, and haven't missed a Nationals yet!

    See you all soon!

John, congradulations on your new Tennessean-ship. Your now a Volunteer! GO VOLS!

I'm right on the KY/TN stateline on I-65 (30 minutes from BeechBend) and I can tell you it gets HOT in June (HUMIDITY). 4th of July... forget it, especially for a Turbo car.

I was very disapponted to hear about the '05 Nats being in June because of the HOT weather. Late June.... :Dou:

    Just my .02 :)

The PEAK of this event was in the mid '90s. That was the "good 'ol days" :bglasses:

On Sunday evening cars was rolling into town. Tuesday night most of the motels was filled, on I-65 and from the time you got off I-65 on Scottsville Rd all you saw was Buicks V8 & V6 out cruising and rumbling up and down the streets. It was the BEST of times. Now your lucky if you see anything on Friday night :Dou:

If your 1st time was '01 that was nothing compared to how it use to be.

June 28 to July 2...........bad time, end of month accounting. I couldn't possibly get off. As for the weather, its hit and miss. May -- rain, July -- heat. Too bad meteorologists can't predict the weather a year in advance. :Do No:

I REALLY like what Steve Reynolds wrote in his post above, I could not have said anything better!
I have been to the GSCA Nats since 1983, think I skipped 87' and 03' due to work or family. allways have fun and enjoy the friendships that have been established over the years.
I am Heavily involved with the BPG and see it's growth as a welcome opportunity to all Buick enthusiasts, it's a win win situation for all, I will continue to support the Buick Flag, as a hobby and an avenue to make new friendships and learn new things about our hobby.

John, Just the thought of Bowling Green in late June/early July is making me sweat! We had it in mid and late June a couple of times a few years ago and the heat was BRUTAL. Regarding the people complaining about not being able to bring their kids in May.....I didn't see all those kids anywhere at the Nats when we DID have it in June, so what's the point in having June dates again anyway? Don't say rain, because just when you think you've got Kentucky weather figured out, Mother Nature throws you a curveball! Let's just leave it in May where it belongs. Always has...Always will!! See Ya in BG. Doug.

Could be, but we have to careful with a early July 2005 date as the Buick Club of America Nationals are July 6-10, 2005 Batavia, New York hosted by the Finger Lakes Chapter. And we will be going racing on Thurday evening July 7 at New York International Raceway Park!

Michael Garrison is right on, "Dallas really doesnt want us there".

we found a place that did want us and had big plans for the future events but we all know how that turned out.......we were back at Beach bend the following year where the track safety personnel doesnt care about our safety and those old nasty bleachers.

the best part of BG, KY was being there in the first of May when spring time was in full bloom and at home was just starting to get nice so it was great to be there, but that date has even changed.

I plan on having the '70 X there this year. I have been there in '00 and '01 I think, but this will be the first year with a car. It's always been a good time and I look forward to getting on the road soon.

Everthing else put aside I would love to be there again. Time and money only allow me only one Big out of state meet [more than 8 hours drive time].
This year, for me it is the BPG Nationals in Ohio. I can finally bring a car and race it everyday without too much inconvenience
It will also be the very first BPG nat's and hopefully the beginning of a New Experience, all for one and one for all, nobody owns it but us!!!

I have been to 90-91-92-93-94-95-96-97-98-no-00-01-02-03, in 99 had a Triple Bypass.

Sorry to say, for me," it ain't like it used to be "! Lots of old friends feel the same as me and no longer go. I will be at all the other BUICK functions this year.

THE BPG NATIONALS IS THE "BIG ONE" FOR ME THIS YEAR..........lots of the old friends said they'd be there.

Should be interesting to see how this all plays out for 2004.

Someone should start a POLL................( I will be attending )

    GS NATIONALS

    BPG NATIONALS

    BOTH

Anyhow, everyone have a great time, no matter where you go.

    Still plan to be there.

Alan and I will still make it but my car will not be ready and his engine is torn down. We may not take a car but we will always have fun. The bracket class that I usually run never pays much money and my cars will never win a show. Its all about the people for me and a small vacation away from the wife and two boys. I hate being gone for 5 days but it makes me more thankful for what I have when I get back.

    Guys,

While I appreciate the excitment as it builds for the BPG event, I think we need to be careful on the "US vs Them" deal. It's really not like that. A few years ago, I had some problems down in BG, and some other issues with the GSCA, and I am not known to keep my mouth shut and "take it". Sure, at first is was a "we will show them" deal, but as we all get older, we hopefully mature and mellow, and move into more of a "live and let live" type deal.. I thought maybe it would be cool if we could put something together, and have an event that all the "old guys" who had stopped going to BG for one reason or another, would attend. So we could all get together again, and a whole new generation of Buick guys could see some of these "famous" cars Run.. Tomaszewski, Mongeon, Hopkins, and maybe even Catlin and the guys for Georgia, whose name escapes me at the moment.. tube chassis GS.. And a whole bunch of other guys, as there are still a lot of killer street/strip GS's and race cars out there, that are collecting a little too much dust, for one reason or another. I thought maybe a fresh new deal would put some excitment back into it, and get some of these cars back out there.

Along with the current "roster of players" which includes the guys from Finishline, all the GSM boys, the faster TR guys and so on..

This conversation lead to me wondering if anyone would want to start a new club, with a fresh sheet of paper so to speak, and the response and support of so many folks has been great on this, I hesitate to name names, because I know I will forget someone, there have been so many folks who have jumped on board with the BPG.

I think it is important to offer a choice in events and clubs, without taking it to a negative tone. Try as we might, I am sure the BPG nats won't be perfect, but we are going to attempt to, and have been to this point, to be sensative to club members and event attendedee's desires. I think this will just be a warm up for great events in the future, and we can all get our "feet wet" with a new town, track and so on. I am really looking forward to the August event, and hope the weather is not too hot. We are trying to do stuff later in the day, so that if it does get warm in the afternoon, we all don't melt..

The very Date of the BPG event gives a nod to the deal at BG, as we did not want to turn this into a competition. Norwalk is pretty close already, and if your like me, you had to make a choice as to what event to attend in May, since I can't spare the time out of the shop to do both.. not this year anyway. So I will be at Norwalk from Thurs-Sunday, and look forward to some good racing, and putting faces to some of the names I know so well now. There are about a dozen of us coming down from the TC area, and I have been working hard on the weekends and at night to make sure all the TSP cars are ready to go. George will be there with the tube car, and Tim Hol will have our Project Limited" car at the event (well, as long as I quit typing and go finish the wiring anyway...:Dou: )

I am looking forward to a good season of events this year, but do want to let all you guys know where I stand personally on all the "politics". Don't have 'em, don't want to be involved with them, but I know that some folks may find that hard to believe. I have, as the head of the BPG, worked hard to make sure that everything from the wording of the mission statement, to the content of the newsletter, does nothing to make you think otherwise. Sure, we all have feelings about individuals, I most certainly do, and I won't blow sunshine up your skirt and say I don't. But I think the new club and this BB has helped bring the community closer together, and is not a devisive force.

I envy you guys that can attend all the events, and look forward to getting out and participating and sucking back a few slushies with everyone at the events I can make it out to this year. In the future, I am sure TSP will be doing vending and display stuff at these events, but right now, it's everything we can do just to keep up in the shop here.

I don't even get to look at the board until about this time at night, and prolly read about 2% of the posts on here anymore. Just no time, as you guys have really turned this place into something we can all be proud of. Huge is the only word for it anymore.. and hopfully a resource we can all contribute to, and use to make all our cars better.

Take Care, and I will see a lot of you in a week or so..
