Hi All The last time I attended the GSCA Nats was in 2001.The turn out was very good in past years. I plan on attended the Nats on May 18-22,are the Nats as strong as ever? Thanks in advance.
I would say that there has been a decline but I have heard that a lot of old faces are resurfacing this year there...... Im sure the BPG thing will be strong too, I just cant afford to go to both.
Thanks for the replies. I see the GSCA board is "DEAD" I was starting to think the GSCA Nats was no more....
I hope that the "20 Fastest Turbo Buick Race" attracts some more people. I doubt it though. If all the fastest GNs were gathered in one place to race there would be no 8 second runs.
Upon hearing from an old friend who was one of the first members of GSCA. I was told that they no longer support GSCA due to the politics. Tim
It said in a recent GS-Xtra (one of the last three) that GM Hi-Tech Performance Magazine would be hosting a race open to turbo Buicks. I think it is called something like "The Fastest Turbo Buick Race" or "The 20 Fastest Turbo Buicks Race." I hope it will bring some very fast turbo cars. Last year there wasn't one 7 second run made. Closest was around 8.00 by Bill Anderson, he would have hit 7 but because of his dial in he had to lay off the gas. If Bill Anderson returns this year he should lay down some sevens. There are also many cars there that have run sevens before but haven't been able to in the past few Nationals. Kent Rudbeck and Jim Dotson being two of them. However, I hope this race attracts some very fast Buicks.
So when you say there won't be any 8 second runs are you saying that all of the top 20 fastest are in the sevens?
I was told by one of the coordinators, that they have invited Dennis and My Classis Car, but I'm not sure if they have accepted. Jeff
I quit going because of the politics as well. Earlier years were fun. Real fun in fact. More camaraderie amongst a small group of people, then (like anything I guess), the business end of it showed its ugly head resulting in seperation of an already small group. I am ok with business being a part in the sense that everyone works together to achieve similar goals. Dont enjoy the he said-she said, us vs them groups. Weather was an issue many times. That was fustrating. Nothing the event could do about it of course, but after 12 hours driving I was ready for some Buick activites, not rain! Final straw was because it was so dang fustrating changing an address with them and trying to continue getting the GS-xtra. Took up to 6 months at times to get it straightened out, and I had to pay to resend lost issues. (all change of address were 2 months in advance notice) Called and they said they didnt recieve the change of address notice. Probably 15 years in the club and they never "didnt" get a check, but NEVER got the change of address ou: Finally gave up........ Sure the clubs and events are great for a lot of people , just wasnt for me. Like the local club gatherings/events much better.
From what I understand the 'stache wants to be paid to attend events like this, so I'd be surprised if it really happens! I talked to the 'stache very briefly at the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race at Stanton, last September and asked him why he wasn't at the Buick Centennial Celebration in Flint, and he said he wasn't invited, which when I talked to the powers in charge, they said that was not the case, they didn't think he was worth what he wanted to be paid in order to attend? So who knows, I sent an email a couple of years ago to get MCC at Buick RaceDay at Norwalk, and never heard from them, haven't bothered since! RV
All Buick events should be supported by everyone! Politics be damned......the chance to see friends from all over the country, be it the event's first year or its 24th makes "politics" seem a very insignificant and petty excuse to not attend. The GSCA and BPG nationals will both ROCK...... See you at BOTH  Peace WildBill
WOW! What an ego! :eek2: ou: Pay? How 'bout a couple dogs or a burger and beverages of his choice! Maybe take him for a TEAR down the track!:Brow: Otherwise, :moonu: ! Maybe Hemmings Muscle Machines wouldn't mind covering this??o No: They seem to be an outstanding mag far as I can tell. Maybe they wouldn't CHARGE for the coverage!?
Shut up and rock! Bill is right! I'll be there for number 19! And an exclusive time, to see all our friends, sure things could be better, but then is gone, life gets in the way of having fun with our friends, we can see more of each other with the additional events planned, and know that not everyone can make every event! My entire vacation has been spent on Buick events for the last 10 yrs or so, I haven't had a real vacation away from Buicks in I don't know how long, not sure I would be able to handle it, to be quite frank! See you all at Norwalk, BG, and Salem, and Cecil too. RV
Attitude is Everything Hat's off to you Wild Bill and Roberta too! We could all learn a great deal from your perspective and that includes me. Unfortunately, the recent job change set me back in vacation time and I can't make the GSCA event - that and the family vacation that would start 3 days later. Looking forward to Norwalk and Cecil though!
Finally said. Life is short and we need to enjoy every event that we can. I will be at Bowling Green, Salem and Plano for the BCA Nationals. I have a conflict with a prior commitment or I would be at Norwalk. So maybe we all need to support each other and all the Buick venues that are available to us. Just my .05 worth. (escalating like steel and gas) Mark
What Robert, Wild Bill, Steve and Mark said... Couldn't be put a better way. Politics aside, Buicks rule! We'll be at as many events as we're able to this year. ShariB and Loyd
