Thanks for the info. I'm new to owning a classic Buick, although I've always enjoyed looking at them. Since this particular GSX is NOM, that would give me the green light to make the engine a little warmer than stock, if I owned it.
I was thinking that car was flame orange, not Bittersweet mist...Since that car is a 72,Bittersweet Mist wasn't available on it. 71 was the only year for that color..
Those are Brian Brown's cars. Beth and I went to look at them years ago. The 72 was Flame Orange. Duane
Yeah I remember now --this 71 X is same as the 71 Chevelle color-- Burnt Orange. I have a flying buddy that has a 71 454 SS this color from the factory. Looks good in person fresh.
I had a '71 Bittersweet Mist car. Just a plain vert though. Really nice color. I would really like to see that X finished.
My 71 GS 350 is a factory Bittersweet Mist no vinyl top car. I love the color. I searched for 5 years before I found a factory no vinyl top car in that color with buckets and sport wheel. I really hope this one gets done right. I would love to see the final result.
Did anyone notice in the cover shot picture of the three GSX's that both the 70 and 71 have body coloured hood scoop inserts, while the 72 has black inserts. I wonder if black was an anomaly in 72, or the norm. Cheers Randy
Yes, you are correct Randy. I was talking of 72 GS's in general. I'm pretty sure only Framingham built GS's had body color scoops.
This car has been repainted, rear window around trim has been repaired and rusty. Rear glass trim has DA sander marks on it. Left door and fender has been replaced. Door is GM replacement on left. Rear left quarter damaged and repaired at left front. Car is very solid and basically all there. Looks like a belt molding hole on all panels??? Any help? Front fender and rear quarters each has a hole. Not able to check doors. Holes were filled with body putty befor repaint
Duane did you by chance look at this car Sunday? I stopped by on Friday and he said he was going to meet with you. I am interested in what you have to think. Thanks Dwayne
64 Hardtop, Yes I looked at the car, and checked body panel date codes etc, to verify if the panels were correct before looking at the stripes. Duane PS. Some of the car has been repainted, however some areas still had original paint, and that is what I was looking at.
Hello, everyone I wanted to update what (64 hardtop) had to say. The car has NOT been repainted, only the drivers door and quarter panel has been repainted. Now the car HAS been inspected by DUANE HECKMAN of Phila. PA. He sared his finding and pictures with other well known GSX restorers and they have now stated that this IS A REAL 1971 GSX. The car has all of it's original sheetmetal with the exception of the drivers side door. The door was changed back in 71 after the original owner had got to close to a pole, he had damaged the front part of the rear quater as well. So, this is why the drivers side door and rear stripes have hardly any black left on them. They were repainted. The rest of the paint is original to the car as well as the passenger side stripes. All the options were also verified as well as the W4 option which was protective body side moldings. This was discovered during the inspection. This is the only 1971 GSX known car to exist to date with this option. It is not a big option and is a crazy one but has it originally from the factory. I just wanted to update everyone on the statis of the car. Now there is proof that the car is 1 of the original 124 1971 GSX's. Thanks, Marty
What do you get from Buick GURU Duane a Letter of Authenticity certifying a GSX much like Galen Govier does for Mopars?
