Steve, the standard sized skylark/GS trunk spring can be adjusted up far enough to hold the trunk lid and spoiler up.

    Jim,
He has what's left of the large "Body Shop Inspection sheet" (which is basically in pieces). He also has the seat tag which is also in pieces, and the buildsheet on the tank has supposedly been looked for and is not there.

It is a good deal at 25K if it is a real one. That's what it is priced at in the Phllly Pa Craigslist.

    Hi Eddie,
Thanks for the clarification. I've read here previously that it required a heavier spring. I was not aware the standard set-up could be turned up enough. I'd like to see this car proven authentic.
    I'm always learning!

Does anyone know how long a dealership would keep copies of car sales ? I know your thinking thats a lot of cars over the years. Bear with me here.

In 1957 two El Segudo,CA Police Officers were murdered. The crime was recently solved :
Officers Lowe and Macelderry followed the trail of evidence to Shreveport, 1,600 miles and 46 years from El Segundo, Calif. They found out that the gun was sold there in 1957, and sold by Billy Gene Clark.

Clark, who was 18 at the time and working his first job behind the sporting goods counter at a local Sears.

Investigators found one name, G.D. Wilson, in a record of firearms sold at the store. Lowe says they started canvassing the area around the Sears and tracked George D. Wilson to a nearby YMCA.

"They were able to locate the register from the actual piece of paper where he signed in to the YMCA as George D. Wilson," says Lowe.
    <HR width="50%">

If a Sears salesman and a freaking YMCA sign in sheet were found after 46 years ! one would think finding a salesman that sold a GSX! Or the managing dealer would have some shred of evidence of selling the car at Key Buick . How many GSX could Key have sold ?

we keep ours 10 years. i think 7 is the law. If the store is family owned you would have a better chance finding someone who might remember something. although our store is family owned but everybody who would have been around in the 70's has pasted. i remember as a kid cleaning gs's for customers. im 43 now. i also remember throwing away files when we moved. im sure they were all kinds of gs,gn,opel, dodge sales contracts and who knows what else. i just wish my dad and grandfather had put a few gs gsx roadrunner ect. away. they did save a gnx and sold it for 80k in 1989.

Even if one those files did exist in a dealership, I doubt you could convince anyone there to spend a day or two looking up a 40 year old sales agreement to some "old car". Unfortunately, most people dont care about these things.

The police and the FBI have better powers of pursuation when it comes to things like this. There's only one answer and it isnt "no" . If we asked, we would just get a chuckle from the other end of the phone then a dial tone:laugh:

Same here Steve. That's why this board is so awesome. The knowledge base is incredible. Only reason I knew the springs could be adjusted that far was reading it from someone on here and trying it successfully on our two clones.

Hello everyone, I am the owner of the 71 GSX on ebay. I did call Key Buick in Jacksonville, FLorida and I spoke with a very nice lady. She took all of the car info. She said she would call me either way to let me know if she found anything either way. She did call me back 3 days later and said that she did look in the files that thay had but they only go back so far. So, no luck there. I am also trying to see if I could track down a salesman that worked there in March of 71 when the car was sold to the 1st owner. I have called the 1st and spoke with him again. A very nice guy. He is going to supply me with a notorized document stating he is the original with all his info and all the cars info stating that he purchsed the car new and it is a true factory 1971 GSX. This will help a little. I am making plans with someone a GSX expert to inspect the car to also validate it as well. I'm trying guy's. It's to bad that knowing and talking with the first owner and having the protecto with his information on it and having the original dealership and the condition of the car being near all original would be enough to prove the car being a real GSX. I guess it will take it to be inspected to be 100% without a doubt. Once it is inspected it will be finally be. Thanks again. Marty

I wish Marty would learn how to NOT screw with the font and letter size, so I could actually read what he types...:Dou:

If you end up with a name of a sales person or other employee from the dealership back in the day AND can get some kind of secondary identifier (like middle initial or name or where someone lived (town), first name of spouse, etc., anything), I can help try to locate a person or relative (lateral or descendant). Maybe the original owner remembers some piece of info that could assist in finding a sales person. Is it possible the Protect-o-plate or any other warranty paperwork has a name on it for a name associated with the dealership?

By the way, although my GS was in the family for a long time, I worked a paper trail and tracked down ALL prior owners of the car (they were shocked & happy the GS was still here) as well as contacting the original selling dealer. The owner of the family dealership was 16 when my GS was sold and worked at the family dealership ... and he described my GS to me as he remembered washing it for dealer prep before delivery ... it made quite an impression on him. Anyway, this guy was VERY helpful and said he did have records going back even older than 1970, but they were all wharehoused offsite. He took all my info and viola, about 4 or 5 mos. later, here comes the original invoice and sales contract in the mail! Geeeeezzzz, not copies ... the originals!!!! Never say never until all stones are turned.

Hello, everyone. This is the owner of the 71 GSx on ebay. Well first of all I had to relist the car with only 1 day and 8 hours left EBAY ended my auction because I had a link to a video on youtube, which they do aloow but you can't copy the address off of the youtube page and paste it to direct people away from ebay. So after endein the auction with over 235 people watching and the current bid at $18,001 they show me a way to place the entire video on the auction. Thanks EBAY. The person that is going to inspect the car is from PA as well. Also I am sorry for printing in real big form before not used to the forum setup. Sorry guy's. Well I hope people will still go on the auction to bid on the car again after what ebay did. well take care everyone. Marty

I was watching this one from the start. What a cool car this one would be. I never knew any GSX's were made in this color, before I saw this one. It's a shame more weren't ordered in this shade.

The new auction number 300204472126. I would post the link but my post count isn't high enough.
