    Yeah, I saw that too,weird.
The deck lid was also light blue, look at where the bittersweet has fallen off the seams. Trunk hinge almost looks like it has blue paint showing.

Is there anyway that a car was sprayed the wrong color at the factory, and repainted the correct color before leaving?

I did not see any Skylark emblem holes the blue I think is a primer thats showing. I think there is enough evidence that this is a GSX but I see a six figure resto bill on this one and then its NOM . If it were done it would be stunning.

i doubt there could be a goof at the factory like that and if there was im sure they would just change the trim tag instead of repainting the car, car interior is full of mold and rust in every nook and cranny. was it under water? no gs wheel? paint is peeling off like a bad repaint and has grey prime under it. the stripe is red on the drivers sided but the passenger side is black? i would think there would be more even fade. nice car but if i was going to buy i would have looooots of questions.

they use grey prime in 71? ive sanded down 3 skylarks and they were all red oxide. pic12 door jamb by quarter looks like metallic blue. no stripes on the spoiler back,,,,

You guys are funny, what you think is blue paint in the door jam looks to me like the lead the factory originally installed at the rocker/quarter seam.

If you are questioning whether the car has original paint, the pics won't show you. You would need to first check the date codes of the parts, including making sure they are 71 and not 70 or 72 fenders. Then look at the paint for tell-tale marks etc, and lastly check to make sure the GSX parts are all correct for that year car. I believe a visit would be required to do this.

If nothing else, the seller's claim of all original paint is questionable. Definitely see signs of belt molding in pic# 8 and in that same pic, there is no sign of a rocker molding on that side so it appears some work was done there. Also in pic 11, you can see the hole for the belt molding mounting screw in the door jamb. In pic# 6, sure looks like the fender had the chrome edge molding by the windshield at one time. Doesn't mean that it's not a legit GSX, but these points would bring into question the seller's credibility.

    Lots of questions here...

Pic # 16 does show evidence of a repaint, the rubber piece at the top of the door jamb has paint on it. That said it is "possible" the door was replaced with one from a Skylark at some point in time. This may also hold true for the deck lid if that is actually blue paint on the seams.
The item that catches my eye is the fact that the trunk lid stays open on it's own indicating the heavier springs that were installed with a trunk spoiler.
Photo is not the greatest & I cannot see any props holding it open.

Yes there is. If you look close, you can see the holes for the screws that would have held on the metal strap.

That doesn't make it not a GSX, as I believe the rear hood molding and rear fender moldings were an option.

Well you've got better eyes than me cause I still can't see the holes. Wouldn't the strap have been on the fender and the discs on the rocker panel?

I thought the fender and hood rear moldings were deleted as part of the GSX striping, but I guess I stand corrected.

As I said in my post, none of this makes it not a GSX, but it does raise questions.

I was within 15 minutes of that car this am while picking up my wife at the hospital. I would snatch that car up in a second if I had the extra cash. My favorite all time GSX color. Everyone has yellow and white X's..

Hello, everyone. I am the owner of the 71 GSX on ebay. I did read some of your responses and questions about the car. I would like to answer some questions about the car. First of all I am going to have it inspected by a GSX expert hopefully this weekend if he can make it on short notice. Now there is no blue paint on the car anywhere. The trunk was not proped up, it does stay up on it's own. The rear spoiler if you look at the video I do show where the rear spoiler has the original GSx decal and show where you can see the outline of the painted stripes on the spoiler, the lst owner years ago painted the spoiler on the car with some primer, do not know why but the last owner had this car in high school and has owned it for around 25 years so kids do strange things. The passenger side did have the rocker molding on the car the holes are present. Now I spoke to the original owner last week, he is in his late 50's and still lives in Jacksonville, Fl where he bought the car when he was 18 with the help of his dad co-signing for him, he had told me that 3 months after he had the car he got close to a pole and dented the door and a little of the lower quater right after the door. It was taken to the dealer and had those to areas fixed but the rest of the paint you see is the orignal as well as the stripes and hood paint. Now the stripes you see are painted on which they are supposed to be. The red goes on first over the regular paint then the black gets painted on top of the red. The passenger side has most of the black still prsent while the drivers side most of the black has faded away except for a small couple of spots and around the door handle you can still see alot. Now the trunk and floors are very solid will just surface rust as well as the quaters, fenders, rad support, hood, etc. I have seen alot of cars where there is no floors or trunk left, you see the ground. So this being the shape it is in is very solid. Well I just wanted to help answer some questions for the sceptics out there. But being only 124 ever made and alot of fakes out there I can understand why. This is 1 of the original 124 made. I do need to have it validated as the build sheet has not been found. I have one other location to look behind the gauages and the vent area on the drivers side. I am going to do this today. Otherwise it will have to be looked over by a GSX expert to have written proof and thats what is going to be done. Thanks, Marty

I may have missed it but did you pull the gas tank to see if a factory sheet is on top? Also look for the interior sheet maybe under the springs of the passenger front seat.

Marty have you looked into thge pillar post for any paper work pass side and above the gas tank and above the glove box and behind the dash. I have found a build sheet all the way up behind the center duct work and wrapped around the wiring harness One 70 lark had one behind a kick panel also. Good luck. I believe its a real GSX . There are some questions as to the amount of rust that is seen at the top and bottom corners of the rear window. If this is anything like my Suncoupe the floors look solid but if you blast them they become thin and pin holes show up. I was sure my floors were fine but now I am needing patches or welding of small holes

What you guys think its blue is an illusion created by the camera. The sill plate looks blue and we know that is aluminum.

The big GSX tip off here is the super low "000" body number. I think a 71 X is a hard car to fake because of that.

Needs some work for sure, but its the real deal. This car has Mark written all over it. :pp

Seriously, I actually like the patina. I dont know if I would restore it. Took alot of years to get it to look like that

Donny fender hood and rear qtr chrome moldings were only deleted and or unavailable on the 1970 GSX only.
On 71 and 72 GSX cars anything and everything was available optionally.
That included all chome moldings front to back that you are referring to.
Therefore, if a guy ordered a GS 350 ,455 or Stage 1 car in 71-2 and ordered the WA5 GSX ornamentation package it only only gave him a rear spoiler, hood body stripes, GSX decals ,dash pad emblem, painted headlight bezels in 71 only ( all 72 cars had painted bezels even GSX cars had the black around head lights),and black stripe rocker moldings that's it.Sport mirrors were not part of WA5 option so there are even 71-2 GSX car with a chrome mirror on drivers door from the factory!.
Every 71 -72 GSX car is a very Unique beast due to the wide variation of factory options and color conbinations available.

Wow...this car is an hour away and would make a serious drag car as well... Wonder how it would look with a bunch of my fiberglass fenders, bumpers, cowl hood, door and decklid?? I even have a 4 speed setup that wold bolt in there...Thats what I'd do...
