Could you use a adaptor for the Q-jet?

i would have to use one of those funky q-jet to square bore plates. i have those. slicing the intake in half takes about 3/8" away from carb plate length. i can open the top more, but would have add a thick plate for the q-jet butterflies. i have to use a plate anyways but dont want to go higher. square bore carb is best suited for what is needed. make any sense??

Maybe on the next intake how would it work to cut the carb flange off first then cut intake in half then when done weld the flange back on top?

It this case I'd go spread bore, 850 cfm would be good I bet.

for th valley plate, why not thake out the dowels and tap those holes to accept a couple small bolts... then slide in the plate and bolt it down :Do No:

John intake has not arrived yet. What other pic's do you need? It's been awhile since I have seen the manifold and my mind is a little fuzzy on the details. Sorry I can't be more help. Sounds like your on the right track. Have you look at the pic's in my other posts?

    wes,
if i take out the pins, which is no easy task, you never really line up a stock manifold again. have tapped the holes.
i can make it to slide in, but you have to have the frontal room to do it. is there enough on a regular car?? on a dedicated race car, it doesnt matter along as your not into changing cams a lot. so, i havent decided.
forgot, you will need always some sealant.

    ron,
i just got to look at the last pic sean put up. that helps.
1)the side view looks like it was cut and rewelded, was it?
2)having the view from the top is good. (see 1) shows top has been added ?? bit confusing
    3) valley plate; does it go up to valve cover area? looks that way??
    4) what manifold did they really use???

    dan,
to really answer your question, i need to have some datum surfaces for future references. if you cut the top off and cut it in half there is no place to locate anything from.
i cut the top paralell to the bottom, cut square inside the carb bore, i then cut a notch center to where the 'v' is to satisfy not having a gap when remaching the mating surface(except i cut a little to much, dummie me). when i cut it in half in the notch area, now i have 2 halves that have square locating surfaces to do my finish maching. i can locate the part to pretty much cut anywhere i want to.

    typing this all out sucks.

if anybody wants a better description give me a call.
