It looks like the intake was welded down between the runners but why I don't know, and from the inside I can see no welds there, and the plate on top of the intake was to allow a q-jet type carb on the spreadbore manifold.

This word doc has most of the info about the intake. Not my words but Darryl's who built the intake. All I did was coppy and paste the info for future reference....

    sean,
thanks the bigger pics and the thread. my intake will only be different for the t/stat housing. the sbm does fit with a little massaging. the weld in the center is a bit confusing. i could do the same thing for the carb area, but with shorten its makes a easy setup for a holley 805 cfm 2 bbl. " hey, you just beat by a 350-2bbl buick". imagine the looks. lol.

back the thread, there are some neat sbm intakes out there to buy. surprised nobody has picked any up.

    sean,
i used a P4452893. i also have a P4532598AB. the pic you sent is a P4532598. if they are the same, then the differences are yours is setup for fi and you have all the flanges. mine just has 4 big legs, no flanges.
there is one on ebay($200) now that is similar to mine, but i think it may be taller. one that went by(like mine) was $100. hard to say. on your pic, if you use that intake, throw away the hood !!

stock intake....3" from valley rail to carb
    P4452893........6" from..................
    P4532598AB.....9" from.................

like the c/card commerical "whats in your wallet"

    sean,
on ebay there is a holley intake and the side view looks kind of like it. ??

every thing i have done has been fitted to a stock block and heads that have not been cut. there are no head or intake gaskets either. this was done because of my block. so.....

i went and did the slide in on the valley plate. tight because of no h/gskts. not a problem for me. rear water hoses holes are in as is the sbm water outlet. i am still using the bypass hose.
as there are no provisions for a temp guage hole, i just have to make a 4 port block that incorporates the rear hoses, a fitting to go to stat and a hole for the temp gauge. we will be reading temps from the back hoses. ought to be interesting. i will finish that tomorrow nite.
then its time to glue it all together. resurface the carb base so its flat and grind the ports. then its testing time on the car.

btw, since i dont have or operate a computer camera, anybody is welcomed to come and take pics.

anybody if i should put a pcv hole in the valley plate ?????

Just my opinion,if you keep the stock location for the PCV then you will have to run the stock metal gasket or modify it to use the TA's in order to keep oil from going into the intake charge.I would move it to a baffled valve cover and not worry about using multiple gaskets.
I thank you for taking the bull by the horns and sharing with us as you go,I know that a lot of others here feel the same way.Keep at it! :TU:

had to trim the water outlet flange in case of using a hei. drilled/tapped a hole in the outlet so i can use the regular bypass hose. cool.
have to put a flat on p/side for the fuel pressure bracket. was going to do it tonite. will finish it wednesday.

then its time for final assembly and running time. will have to do some creative work to hook it all up in the car.

Awww Phil. That is a pretty picture. Especially since it is actually in an engine bay. You'll be laying the rubber down in no time.
You start to get the tingles when you get this close huh?

    Temp gauge...

Autometer makes a temp gauge that goes in line with a heater hose or by-pass hose.

Bill, Yes it is getting closer but still so far.... I have all the little pieces to buy Belts, Hoses, Gauges, Translines and cooler etc etc etc... but it is starting to tingle. Once I fire the motor I will hang the fenders hood and so on. Just making sure the engine is 100% so that I do not have to climb on the black paint. :beer

got the temp unit going into a 4 way block with the rear water hoses.
and there is enough meat in the stat housing i was able to put the bypass hose in the buick position. :TU:
any other sbm manifold, i wouldnt be able to do it. nice neat package.

    just a side note

there has been over 1700 looks at this thread, but only a handful of people have posted and probably the same looking.
amazing, 'yeah, we want a single plane intake', but if i was a business and saw nobody yacking about it, i wouldnt build it either.

    just my .02

    Hi,
I'm more than one of those 1700 looks. I'm keeping a tab on this thread out of interest. Your talking about this manifold, that manifold, cutting, splicing, tapping, I can't add much techincal support. But I can add moral support :beer :TU: Keep going. I'm intrested to see how it works out.
    Thanks Bruce
