Am I the only one that has an issue with the title of this thread?

In the sentence being referred to rims is plural and should use the plural form do instead of does. Inproper grammer, matched to this topic in general, is just fueling stereotypes.

I just had to get that off my chest

After seeing all the waste of metal being posted on here the last few years the blue '69 in the very post is looking better and better. I think it is just the angle shot though.

What I don't understand is why people who like BIG wheels get bent out of shape when people say they hate them. To each his own. They somehow can't fanthom the idea. Like they never hated/disliked anything in their life. It's like taking somebody to a Chinese restaurant and they tell you they hate that type of food and then you don't like it because they didn't like the food.

Who cares that I used improper grammar. You guys knew what I meant. I blame the ****ty school systems these days, and yes I did graduate in 2007, so :bla: on that.

I understand that people like big rims or they don't that is fine its opinion, not everybody likes the same things. What i don't understand is when somebody judges the car as a whole based on the rims. When I look at cars I don't judge if I like them or not based on the wheels I look at the whole package and if I like the car I don't care how ugly the rims are if its a nice car I still like it. To me its funny when you have 2 cars exactly alike, one with stock rims and 1 with 26's. Ask the same person if they like them and they'll love the one with stock rims but they'll say the one with 26's is a "piece of ****" I dont understand how a set of rims can make somebody hate a car so bad? You can take them the **** off and put stocks on it. DUH!!! :Dou:

If the wheels are too big than it usually means the steering and suspension need to be replaced. Big wheels/tires can do alot of damage to steering systems and suspension components if they aren't upgraded to handle the added stress. If they have been upgraded than going back to stock may not be an option. Ever see the steering box rip from the frame on an off road rig? It aint pretty what the added stress does to the chassis.

I think I said that a long time ago, so it is a re-occuring theme.

Oh, and don't blame the system, blame the student. I mean that.

You asked our opinion, you got it. You did not say this was a pissing contest. We were even nice enough to tell you WHY we don't like them. Take it as information to learn from, not to just dismiss, because it obviously means alot to you. If you are asking for opinions, you have to be prepared to hear them. If you want to hear from people that love big rims, you are in the wrong place. Try an escalade/hyonda forum, you will have all the agreement you so desire.

I like big rims on certain cars and only if the rim style is visually appealing to me. I'm not upset or mad if people don't agree with my opinion I asked for an OPINION so why would I be upset? I think the reason I like big flashy rims on certain cars is the same reason I like older cars for the most part. I have always been a sucker for chrome :Do No: I can't help it. New cars lack chrome which is one reason new cars for the most part FAIL. They don't appeal to me in any way whatsoever. Boring round shaped with big huge funky shaped headlights and tailights. No Chrome & plastic "trim" LOL. FUGLY. Interiors now a days caompared to the 50's, 60's, 70's and even 80's are BLAND, BORING, NO style. Plastic fantastic, no choice in interior color. You order a car with BLACK interior and you get dark grey with light grey carpet and headliner... WTF? Headliners sag and hang after 2 years of driving and for the most part newer vehicles dont have the quality they aren't built to last anymore. Sad to say it but they don't give a flying **** they just want the piece of ****ing **** to last til the warranty is over and after that you're ****ed.

I have a friend who has been driving the same 1982 Chevy Caprice since he was 16 it is his daily driver and he is now 32 years old. That is a 29 year old car that he has driven daily for 16 years and now has over 370,000 miles on the original motor and transmission. Transmission was rebuilt once. The car is driven in snow rain and everything and has hardly no rust on the body and the interior other than the drivers seat and a crack in the dash is still in nearly new condition. No major breakdowns, just normal wear and tear... I see cars that are 10 years old that have way less miles and way more rust on them and the interiors are shot. New cars aren't built to last. Sure they have they're advantages and modern technology but at what cost? Being worn out before the car is even hit its 10th birthday so you have to trade it in for a new one? **** that.

That car is beautiful with stock rims and the 26's... You can't go wrong with any rims on a classic like that its so beautiful it will turn heads no matter what

I agree with some of what you say but not all, todays cars last longer body wise and engine wise over the cars of the 50's, 60's and 70's. The old cars had better material and styling, but fit and finish was horrible. These cars rusted in 2 years and engines were lucky to see 100,000 miles. Don't take this the wrong way, a new car to me is just a way to get from point A to point B. But we look back at these old cars like they were perfect and without problems, they weren't...............but they do look GREAT

In my experience and with my family, every newer vehicle we have owned has been crap. My dad bought a 2001 Monte Carlo SS new and it was completely worn out midway through 2007. Radio stopped working, power windows went out TWICE, headliner started to sag, seams on seat came undone. Transmission went out before 40,000 miles, got fixed but always slipped, everytime you turn around something would break and it would be in the shop :-( 6 years and done. My mom is STILL driving her 1977 Monte Carlo DAILY and everything still works except for the Cruise Control and she bought that the same time we got the 2001 SS. Hers has power seats and windows, Headliner doesnt sag, interior is 9/10. The 1994 Thunderbird we had was crap too. I can't begin to list the problems with it lol... I think it has to do with quality of craftsmanship. It wasn't until the late seventies that, in my opinion, things began to be made with an expiration date, as it were. If Ford makes an engine that lasts forever, fewer engines would need to be replaced. If a car is built to last ten years and then need all kinds of work and parts replacement, then the owner is likely to sell it and buy a new car (hopefully from the same maker). It's not just cars: dishwashers, washers and dryers, refrigerators, all kinds of major appliances, only make money as long as they are being purchased. If they need replacing sooner, then more get sold. That's my thought on the subject, anyway.

I think it is all just personal taste. Some cars I have seen are tastefully done and if thats the case, I think its fine. Some cars are over the top and look ridiculous. I am 27 and I think that is another aspect. The younger generations like the aftermarket rims regardless of size. I have a few cars stock, one lowered on 20s with a mean stance , and a couple with big rims. If its not over the top and trying to do too much then I can appreciate being unique. I like a lot of things from muscle to bikes to lowriders. Its really just is a personal preference. I do almost all the work on all my cars so regardless if you like my car, im very happy if you can just appreciate the time and effort putting into it.........My 69 Electra 225 with 26s and a 455.
