Great work on getting your car done :TU: .Your are making good power when you can get it to the ground your et will really start to drop.Keep up the good work. Jamie
Thanks, im happy to finally have it back and enjoy it again. Im not having any problem getting power to the ground (spinning tires if that what you meant)...i just dont have all the low end power NA, before boost comes in, that the BBB had....i just need to be able to build some boost on the line so i can take off with power. I got my 2-step hooked up today so hopefully that will help me some at the track for getting the turbo spooled and making boost on the line for when i go to the track this friday. Also im going to see if i can adjust my rear drums to hold a lil better untill i get some real brakes put on in a month or so.
HPTuners was used for my car there are tons of cars around here that have more than 1hp per ci at the wheels, quite a few that are atleast 1.5 per ci, and even a few nasty 2hp per ci cars around here lol, racing scene is big....... but yes forced induction makes things much much easier, on of the guys i race with has a 3.0L motor that puts 82xrwhp, even quite a few 4 cylinders that have 400-5xxrwhp,,,you have to watch out right now i do not have the converter locked at all under wot, once i put a shift kit in the trans i will have it locked up in 3rd
Sorry to be a pest what converter are you running?.... some of the gn guys s/10 rear wheel cylinders for more holding power on the line i launch the gn with 15 psi on the foot brake How much lag? is it responsive? ..... i told you i would have alot of questions ou:
lol no problem man, i asked a ton of questions researching for my build. Im running a tc from a comparny called Performabuild, its a 10in tripple disc lock up converter ($900) but will hold anthing ill ever throw at it Im going to adjust my rear brakes tomorow before the track to see if i can get them to hold any more, but since ill be getting some race brakes in July im just tryin to save my money. First gear is a lil laggy (2.2 60') taking off with no boost, but once it comes on it keeps pullin just as hard untill you let off. And from a roll its just instantly in boost, no lag when driving down the road and you need to..."merge" lol
Just wondering where you got your oil pan, filter relocation kit. Also did you have to do anything to your gas tank to run the engine. ( in tank sending unit). I am doing a LS 6.0l as well so I thought I would ask you a couple questions since you have already gone through this.
I got the oil pan and filter relocation from JEGS. For my tank i bought a sump from jegs as well and had it welded on...2 external walbro 255lph fuel pumps, 1 that runs all the time and 1 that turns on when the motor see's 2+ psi of boost. And the fuel return goes to the stock sending unit.
every time we go to the track we get about a tenth faster with tuning last outing was a few weeks ago and it went 7.60 at 99 still at 3900#'s this week we swapped on my new wheels and tires and lost 40 lbs, and are going to install the rear discs next week which might lose around another 20 lbs. We have a car show this weekend but next week we are finally sending the converter out to get loosened up and if everything goes right itll be in the high 6's no problem. stay tuned in a few more weeks and ill update with the converter change.
small update from the car show this weekend....23mpg on the the interstate on the way home and dyno'd 476hp in 101 degree heat :3gears:
3.73 and 23 mpg the truck that motor came out of couldnt get that with a 30 mph tail wind great job glad to here you driving it cant wait to see what it does in the 1/4 mile
the first time the new setup went to the track it was at Beach Bend. 2.3 60 fts 8.0 8th mi. and 12.0 in the 1/4 mi. i have a 8th mi track 15min from my house so thats where im usually at. Since BB ive cut my 60's down to 1.9-2.0 60 fts and 7.6 in the 8th im prob heading back to BB this sat so see what it does now in the 1/4 im still waiting on some money so that i can get my converter changed, that will make a big difference but ill just have wo wait and see how much
23 mpg is great. I hope I can get that with my build. Im running a 6 speed in mine. Im going to be dropping in a LQ4 this winter. I also have a whipple supercharger to bolt to it that I use to run on a 2000 pickup. When I sold the truck the guy didnt want the charger so I kept it. I would like to do a turbo set up but I dont have the money to do that right now.
Spectacular project. I am anxious to get my LQ9 in there. I have got everything coming except for the JZ Motorworks oil pan and the Edelbrock motor mounts. Did your steering clear the pan?
the turbo i nice in that once your setup is done you can just keep turning up the boost and not have to change pullys like on a supercharger or have to worry about belt slippage. and that whipple will be nice, i was going to do a whipple on mine but couldnt find one at a good price when i was ready to buy and start the build.
