    This was painful to read...

In scheme of things, auto theft likely lower priority for law enforcement than other crimes. Reading posts, occurred to me members of related boards represent a vast resource. Perhaps it's time to organize resource into a "quick response team" for tracking our stolen cars. Not talking vigilantes, but a nationwide network of hobbyists gathering hard info to pass on to law enforcement...just a thought...

If they were sighted going north on I-75 in Ohio, it's possible they were headed for the Detroit area. Maybe keep an eye on craigslist and ebay for that location.

Read on Turbobuick that the 05 Dodge Ram with the GN was stolen from the Ramada at 9:26 Saturday nite and they have it on camera. I think Billy T said his was stolen between 11pm & 4am so it could be the same guy & he just dumped it in a warehouse & came back for more.

Well,,, as a ex cop,,, I can tell you this... if,, if,,,, all of us would engrave every part that we put into and on the cars with our drivers license number , it would be a great help to law enforcement in catching and then making a case in court.... it should look similar to this TNDL 123456.... that tells the recovering officer that the state is Tennessee and the drivers license number is 123456 and when he gets the return it gives him a city, state, and current address of the owner... and he will check with NCIC for reports of stolen property with that DL number and it will come up with the owners name, address ,,ect... then when the case gets into court, the thief has to splain to the judge just how stolen property with your DL number came into his possession.....

I'm sure this has come up amongst the numerous discussions about this, but the theft of rigs from events like these has happened before.
There was one or two duallie/trailer/racecar thefts that I recall hearing about at the NMRA/NMCA event in Atlanta two years ago, and maybe another in Charlotte. In each case the theft was similar - the whole rig was stolen from the hotel parking lot.
My guess is these guys watch the internet, attend a race or two, and pick and choose what they consider to be 'easier' or more convenient targets. Taking the vehicles at the end of the event ensures that the owner has the trailer loaded with the car, tools, and spare parts for the ride home.

When I lived in NY, I had two cars stolen within two years. I remember being told by police that thieves would drive the cars into New York City and have them loaded in a shipping container within 90 minutes of being stolen from the suburbs of Long Island. Apparently there's a huge market overseas for specialty American cars, stolen or not.

    :(

Billy T. posted this over on TURBOBUICK today.

Spoke with Bowling Green PD, they are NOT assigning this case to a detective. So if anything is going to be located, it's going to happen by us.

As of this posting, nothing has been located.

    This is absolutely appauling !!!

I wouldn't set foot in that B.S. town ever again with these crappy Police protecting or careing about my property. The GSCA should be applying pressure to the Police and demanding someone look into these thefts.

With all the stories we've heard about car theft down there and the Police not giving two $hits about our property I think maybe the GSCA should end their relationship with that 2 bit town and start making plans for next years event elsewhere. I sure as hell wouldn't chance going to that unsafe town or event ever again. You gotta be nuts if you do !!!.

Since BG does not care (as we hear) then each hotel will need to set up their own security.

Get everyone at their hotel together some how and have them pull a "duty shift" walking the grounds.

Something like one or two hours at a certain period.

I know it would be the only way I would sleep knowing someone was watching out.

@Doc: That is a great idea. When you engrave your DL number.... Is is safe to put your WHOLE D/L number? Could any harm come of anyone else knowing it?

    Thanks for the tip!

That's what we do for our local BOP. We also block in the show cars with any trailers, local cars, etc. We usually send out 2 people at a time for 2hrs or so. The time goes by quickly.

According to your graph Don, The auto theft rate in queens is 1/4 that of the rest of the country and in NY its half the rest of the country

    :Do No:

Well, anything is possible,,, but what else are you gonna put there???? the idea is to have a number that the thief will overlook but the fuzz will snap that this is a id number.... for instance TNDL 123456 most likely would be taken for a part number where a officer would instantly say'' Tennessee drivers license number'':Brow: and if the criminal tries to check the number, he cant get the info... but an officer can..... name , address, phone number ect....

Here's the thing, its not that these cars were taken to an unsafe town, its that the theives were drawn to that area because the cars were there. In other words, the cars werent taken to where the thieves were, the theives went to where the cars were. That said, the fact that the local PD is being far from proactive is very sad. But I 100% agree that this is a perfect example of why some sort of security measures should be taken.

On a side note (albeit a sucky one), on the day they were reportedly sighted on 75 North in Ohio I was running up and down 75 between dayton and cincy. I sure wish I woulda spotted them....:af:
