I believe the common business practice requires the item to be returned before there is a refund.

Clearly, this is a workable solution.

 

Buyong/selling a used cam is risky in and of itself.

 

The pictures are too small to get a good look at the lobes. When saved and blown up it is no better.

Did you measure the lobes to see if they are excessively worn as far as lift is concerned? If the lift is within a few .00?'s and the lobes are similar along the cam it probably isn't too much of a problem.

I have run cams and lifters with some pitting or imperfections with no problems.

In the 30+ years that I have been buying products I have never received a refund before the product was returned.

I have known Todd for a few years and have known him to be very honest. If he says he will refund your money.... he will.

 

The way JW is stepping up is great. Todd take this deal and we all can find out what to look for in a used cam. FWIW I had problems with a new cam.

Al, seriously? Will you please start quoting me correctly. I never said I didn't look at it. I didn't inspect every 1/16" of it for cosmetic defects like you did. On a cam there are 3 things matter: 1) where the lifters have been riding on the lobe 2) the cam bearing journals and 3) the teeth on the distributor gear. Those are what I looked at, not the cosmetic blemishes you are concerned with. Those are not what I was worried about, just functionality. I took pictures of it before I sent it to you. I TRIED TO POST THEM. I couldn't figure out how to resize them to the 800x800 pixel limit. So do not say I said I never looked at it.

Also, I want you to try something. Go to a store and buy something, anything. Then go back a few days later and tell them you aren't happy with the product. Then when they politely tell you they will take the product back and then refund your money, tell them that they have to give you the money and then you'll go home and get the item and you promise to bring it back and they have your word on it. They'll laugh you right out of the store.

Jim, ironically earlier today I was thinking of asking you to do exactly that. I think your judgement will be repected by everyone here, very much including myself. That is very good of you to offer. As always you are a class act.

So absolutely it to Jim (not some hometown shop you know). I'll trust at this point you will not intentionally vandalize it to suit your point. I offered you your money back. You started this with the first pm saying you would pay shipping if I would take it back. I never had a problem with that. You could have your money instead of all this drama. Ship it to Jim. If he says it is trash, you get your money plus what it cost you for actual shipping to Jim. If he says he would use it then you keep it and drop the issue with paypal. If I was wrong I will publically apologize on here for any hassle I may have caused and vise versa if he says it is OK you will do the same. Agreed?

Go back and look at post #12 from Todd as he states he will refund your money when he gets the cam back from you. All transactions I've been involved in require a return of the part then you receive a refund, not the other way around.

Certifications don't make the person, and your posts here make me think there should be another S on the end of your certification instead of an E. :laugh:

I've been waching this thread with a biost opinion.
Now I've came to a realization,
Al has a chance to send this cam set to a trusted "Mechanic" Builder in this case, From what I gather from veiwing this site every day for the last year and a half. that every one on this board knows and can take a simple answer from. If it ends up that this hapens? I am sur Jim W. will know right away if the cam or lifters have been messed or tampered with other wise.

Al, I am so unbelievably sick of dealing with you at this point. My credentials aren't in questions here. The years I was a tech or the 5 or so years that I was a service writer or the various motors I have built DO NOT MATTER. From here on take the time to actually read what I write and find someone to help you interpret it if you need. Since I told you the money wasn't an issue that whether I made a mistake or not I would take it back it makes them not matter. I did not argue that you had to keep it. Then you wanted to send it to a pro for judgment. I said fine to that as well and here you again. Just send it to Jim if you wish. I would like his input on it. JUST DO IT OR DO SOMETHING AND STOP RUNNING YOUR MOUTH.

My fiancee asked me to stop looking at this for a while because she is sick of seeing me all pissed off after looking at the computer.

There you go Al. You wanted to prove what a professional eye you have for used parts for your "new" engine. Send it to Jim then. I absolutely and completely trust his judgment and will follow what he says without a moments hesitation. You had the gall to ask me if I was man enough.
