Ah, yes. There seems to be a reason for that...

    woooooow. they've beaten you down?

i guess we can't refer to you as "The Unsinkable Annie Oakley" any more. :ball:

Too much stuff is locked/deleted and yet other things are left that are completely off-topic. It's random, unpredictable policing and is not conducive to open, friendly, family-like fun and discussion anymore (whether the topic is Buick or other!).

i agree, it would have been nice if they would have explained why locking the congratulations thread to the Dutchman was done.

    Remember the word game thread?

larn me, oh great Tutor of the Wolverines.

I think it just comes down to how anal people really want to be about these things. These cars are obviously VERY much the same, having rolled down the same lines and using nearly all of the same parts. From a practical standpoint, these facts to me mean that these cars are the same, reguardless of what the badges or numbers say.

I just thought of a couple of similar expieriences I had when I used to work for Dodge (yes I am a mopar head) :bglasses:

Anyway, It always used to bug me how SRT-4 owners would try to deny that their cars were Neons. To me it was just skating on a technicality. No, there was not mention of the Neon nameclature anywhere on any of the documentation or on the car itself, but it doesn't take any kind of a genius to look at the two cars and figure out where the SRT-4 came from. It's obviously a Neon with some heavy upgrades.

A group of friends of mine and I have always given one of our buddies in the group loads of crap for trying to justify all of the ricer mods he's made to his stupid ZX2 by saying that "It's not an Escort! It's a ZX2!" Whatever dude! You can stick whatever badge you want to on the doggone thing and guess what!? It's still going to be the same car underneath.

I feel the same way about the comparison of the Skylark vs the GS. No, it may not say "Skylark" anywhere, but it doesn't matter. A GS is very clearly a Skylark with goodies added. All you have to do is look at the damn thing. It's a no brainer. Just like I said above, it's always going to be the same car underneath, no matter what badge is slapped on it or what numbers you assign to it.

All that said, I have enjoyed reading all of this and learning about the distictions Buick used. I always find this kind of trivia interesting, weather it has any practical application or not. It's still fun.

I was hoping some one would mention this. If you look through a Hollander Interchange manual you will find parts listed by Manufacturer-Division-Platform.

All Olds "A" bodies were built on the F-85 platform.
All Pontiac "A" bodies were built on the Tempest platform.
All Buick "A" bodies were built on the Special platform.

Just thought I would add to the confusion.

Sorry, I went back through my subscribed threads and cannot find it. I think it was a product of the 2006 (?) Global Warming fiasco, wherein everyone was cooped up in their homes hiding from the evil hot snow and the killer CO2. Bored with pondering the GS vs Skylark conundrum, a plethora of pages were amassed over a few days, things were said, responses were made, someone got their tighty-whities in a bunch and we all got a stern talking-to. Rightfully so.

It was either deleted or lost in one of the unfortunate site crashes, or I am just missing it. Oh well, looking back through my subscribed threads, there is a vast array of Annie-isms that would surely meet the needs of those searching for more brain rotting material.

To tell the truth, I don't remember. In that particular instance, a few of us WERE getting a bit out of line and things got silly. So, the game was ended, rightfully so.

It was the word game - where someone posted a word, and the next post was a follow-up, and so on. I don't remember what or who flagged it as trouble? (rhetorical question)

Same things could apply with Shelby GT500 (or GT350) and a Mustang , Shelbys are not "Mustangs" , and even more in this case they wear differents make (brand name) , the GT350/GT500 are Shelby and the Mustangs are Ford
You could also have a 350 GSX in 71 & 72 , even with a SBB they still not considered "Skylark" !

Great post , I missed it the first time up :beers2:
