As Chris pointed out, the bottom line is the VIN breakdown. That pretty much tell it all

    correct,
it is symantics, the frame, motor, tranny, rear... hell seats, fenders, doors, quarters are not specific to the gs. GM decided in late 65 early 66 theat the option "uping" was too cumbersome to the production line and created unique model designations to pool the hi-po options, it made better production ordering and organization. That being said, the GS IS a prduction line Skylark at the "body in white" (or a little beyond) level.

If you look at the extreem like a Daytona or a Talidaga they were either a roadrunner (satilite) or a fairline base right? Talk with those guys, they would say NO WAY! it is special through and through. Can't be, the big three are incapable of producing totally specifically unique production full up cars at such a low production rates. The cars had to start as something else, period.

You dont restore your GS with GS only parts? How could you not, if they were their own unique platform?

So Chris, what is the deal with T-37s? Are they just the Buick Special of Pontiacs? A low buck version of the lemans? They did come with 455s though right? Whats the story!

I never could figure that out.

I've read stories of guys 'back in the day' who had 'special option' T-37s...they say they were fast cars. I even saw a T-37 once on the road. Absolutely nothing special about it that I could see :Do No:

I should ask a couple Pontiac guys I know. I know a thing or two about GTOs, but I'm not a Pontiac expert by any means

Don't want to throw on MORE fuel to the FIRE, but the GS was still a separate model in '72 as well, according to VIN's.

you know, I think your right.

In looking at the Dove book more carefully, the 72s do have their own letter code that differs from the Skylarks. I guess what threw me was that they share the same body style codes with the Skylarks. So I again stand corrected. Allow me to re-phrase....all 66-72 GS's were models unto themselves!

Anyone ever seen a GT-37? I remember an old guy I used to work with having one and he actually let me pull a wholeshot with it in the parking lot where we worked. Pretty awesome for a 16 year old :jd:

    Chris, nice VIN breakdown.

Once when I met someone with a GS I said I had a "similar" car - but it was a Skylark convertible (based on the same body, etc., just like we're discussing on this thread). Well, he got snooty with me, because his car wasn't a lowly Skylark.

The next time I can get snooty right back - since my Custom convertible is not a Skylark, but a totally different model. :)

Yes, for Skylark it started in 65 as an option then offered as a separate model. However, for several years both GSs and Skylark GSs where offered. The 1970 infamous muscle car race reported by several car magz both a GS @ 13.3 and a Skylark GS @13.7 entered the race. So yes a separate model and as an option. Theres also a TP model, yes a Skylark TP (thin post).

    I've got a 65 F85 that with a $270.00 package became a 442. Just F.Y.I.

WooHoo!! Another Annie Goes Wild post from ages ago.

Go ahead, keep dragging up stuff I posted - then we can corral it into it's own forum: "Stupid $h!t Annie Said." The supply of material is endless!

Ah, yes. There seems to be a reason for that - and it goes back to my fun-loving posting about an annoying commercial - which resulted in my being attacked both on the board and via PMs for straying off the Buick-only topic. For me, it seemed to sort itself out - but the entire tone of the board changed then and there is always the post-police over your shoulder feeling when posting now. Too much stuff is locked/deleted and yet other things are left that are completely off-topic. It's random, unpredictable policing and is not conducive to open, friendly, family-like fun and discussion anymore (whether the topic is Buick or other!).

Then, I was rudely alerted via PM that I hadn't removed the link in my sig to my Tutoring website (apparently, not fast enough after the thread about it started). :Dou: So, I removed it and replaced it with the sentiment that is there now. I was then schooled about my personal opinion as if I was a four year old that refused to eat my peas.

But the pros you got out of it: no more 'stupid' questions, posts, opinions or input from Annie (since so many were easily offended), and we got Poppa Luv to return! :TU: So, I come back regularly to keep up with the posts, but seek my info and entertainment elsewhere.

But I think there is more than enough in the archives to drag out for your viewing. Remember the word game thread? That should keep anyone busy for a few days!!
