I used Doug's trailer to tow my GN home from OH. using an open trailer and I could not believe it 18MPG. So I loaded my wifes Tarus on the trailer and went back to OH. same mileage what a truck. The only thing I can say about Imports bring your wallet to make them run.

No matter how fast any ricer is.... NOTHING looks CLASSIER on the strip than a GS. They look fast in PARK. The styling says it all.

I'm sure there are some quality ricers... but most I see look like the spoilers are glued on and are usually flapping at freeway speed. You can look into the lowered ones and just see the poor driver's skull shaking loose.

To me, the definition of ricer is a vehicle built to look fast, not to be fast. There are many foreign and domestic cars that fall in this category, and there are many foreign and domestic cars that actually deserve my respect.

I personally love classic Oldsmobiles, but I love Buicks too :TU:

Regarding diesels, I believe duramaxes are fine engines (Certainly FAR better than the 6.2/6.5 family). Cummins 4BT/6BT's are industrial engines and very different from the diesel V8's now used in light pick-ups.

How many V8 diesels do you see in big rigs?

And how many V-TECs do you see in top fuel dragsters?

Good analogy on the ricers. That's what I usually think of... a glue on air dam (half falling of) and big old fart can on the back (again, half falling off). Most of them are nothing more than that. Some of the little imports truly are quick, but I occasionally get to sort them out.

One of these years when I have more money than brains, I'll drop a 455 in a BMW 635Csi. That should make for an impressive import. :)

Well it isn't anything like your car, but it is a great driver. It is a 60,000 mile car, originally a GS 350, and in a couple of hidden spots I see some sunflower yellow paint so the red is not original. The interior appears to be completely original though and still in good shape. I would like to do a dash/gauge resto one of these years as well.

I bought it with the bodywork as is, and the 455/TH400 from a 70 Riv already in the car but it rattled like crazy(valevtrain noise). I tried to address some of the engine issues but it turned out it was terminal. I had help from a buddy with a shop and we rebuilt the whole suspension and brake system in his shop. Then I went a little crazy and had JW do the engine. The first time we went with a mild cam so my wife wouldn't get freaked out driving it. It developed a rod knock again shortly after that and it went back to JW for a fix. This time I went for the cam I wanted in the first place. While at Jims he went through the tranny for me as well and installed the Moser 12 bolt I bought complete. Then add the revised fuel system with the billet mechanical pump, larger lines, larger pick-up, tranny line upgrade, no-hop bars, air bags in the rear springs, driveshaft loop, x-pipe, just about every goodie in the book :TU: It is set up to take the abuse racing with slicks will bring. In the meantime I moved from MN to CO and have only run it at 7000ft alittude, my best being 13.65 @101. Up here that is a screaming machine but a little sad because it was almost that fast in MN with the bad motor. I've been extremely busy this summer (105 hr weeks) and just get to sneak it out once in a while. In fact I have it out today. I will have time off this winter and we always make a trip to CA to visit my dad. I've been thinking real hard about checking out potential tracks in SoCal and hauling the car out there with me. I know it will run low 12's, and maybe into the high 11's :beer

Great looking car! :TU: The scenery is not bad either. You guys way up there need a bit more O2 in the atmosphere. On average you have Delaware by about 3000ft.

It's amazing what blowers and nitrous can do. There is a guy at our track that has a Toyota Supra with a turbo so big he has to use nitrous just to spool it up against the converter. Once he hits 32lbs of boost the nitrous shuts off. The car is street legal and has run 9.19 @156 mph.

Now, while that is fast, there is still absolutely NOTHING cool :bglasses: about the car or how it sounds. I may be a neanderthall, but I like big inches twisted up and sounding good. :3gears: I am more impressed by the 60 something guy with the orange Mopar that runs consistant low 13's with a clutch shifted 4-speed, at least he can drive.

I learned something new after moving here. There is actually the exact same amount of oxygen in the air as there is at lower elevations. What we lack is barometric pressure. So naturally aspirated cars have to suck a lot harder to get the same amount of air through. I have run against guys using nitrous and it really doesn't help them that much up here. What works extremely well are blowers. My buddy has a mid 80's Monte with a cheap 350 crate motor, one of the $1995 jobs and a Weinand 142 blower, like a mini 6-71 and his car runs low 12's all day long. Once it goes positive pressure it is like he is close to sea level. If we hauled both down the hill I bet I could give him a heck of a run.
