A time and place for everything. Burn outs are cool when called for. Any moron can do a single wheel peel. Takes torque to fry a set of fatties on a dry asphault road without brake torquing. Long smokie posi burns:laugh::bglasses::3gears:

Of course they are cool, especially when they leave time tested proof.

The year was 1982, the place was The Top Sirloin restaurant in El Cajon CA. The challenge proposed by a co-worker - " Buicks suck, that thing can't get out of its own way." Leaving my first shift of a split shift I rolled through the parking lot as I passed the entrance I lit em' up. My 70 GS stage1 sat there engulfing my car, the interior and the restaurant with tire smoke as I watched the speedo hit 90. My co-worker ran out and started beating on the passenger window yelling at me to stop. When I returned for the start of my second shift he told me I needed to look at the marks I left in the parking lot. I thought it's just a couple of patches of burnt rubber, no big deal. When I looked, I had dug down into the asphault leaving two indentations.

Fast forward to 2008. I fly down the San Diego to purchase a car for my wife. Visit same friend who tells me that the evidence of my smoky burn out is still there. In disbelieve we get in the car and go check them out. 26 years later the indentations are still there, not nearly as big because the parking lot has apparently been slurried over a few times, but the ole GS left its legacy.

Nothing like a SUPER SMOKEY BURNOUT, WE all grew up loving em. now I'm a little more sparing with the price of tires and fuel.

Heh, I did the same back in the '70s with my '69 Camaro...left two 9" wide grooves about 10 feet long in front of my parent's house. My dad like to have busted a blood vessel in his forehead when I did that. I'll have to drive by the old neighborhood one day and see if they are still there. It's pretty rural, and the streets don't get skimmed over all that often. My dad shouldn't have been mad at me for that. I was with him the day he broke the speedo in our '57 Dodge, with a speedo that went to 130. I was 11. The apple doesn't really fall that far away from the tree...

Nothing wrong with a good burnout using common sense. But IMO it has to be at least a two wheel peel and no power braking. Anyone can powerbrake anything, not impressive to me. If your driving a stick and frying the meats off it while banging gears all the better. My best burnout so far was a good 400' with my Duramax. No powerbraking, just put the tranny in 3rd, stood on the brake to hold the tires from spinning, let it spool up and let off the brake. She will violently breakem loose and shift right up to 3rd and hold on for the ride, hardest part is keeping a 7k lb truck fairly straight at 40+ mph while it is still spinning. With stock rubber it will breakem loose rolling at 25mph for about 30' .

If you don't like burnouts you shouldn't own a buick! V8's got the torq to spin them with ease but the gn's keep the tires spinning 100+feet. You can get lost on YouTube for hours looking at burnout videos lol:Brow: or at least I do..I grew up with dad doing burnouts so now what do I do?? You know it:3gears: we been marking up his road for 25+ years an about 6 yrs ago out town top cop moved four houses down..didn't stop all our fun but the guy was a "Richard" lol after he got busted an fired you know what we do now....

:3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: Yeah buddy ain't nothing better than pissing the neighbors off with a "hey watch this!!!"

Everything I ever owned or still own(not my Denali its awd but does good in mud with a 6.0l) has to burnout.

As long as your using common sense I say let em rip! Half of the fun of having a Buick is that torque. How better to crown the torque brand then letting ol Smokey stoke that fire :3gears:
