Absolutely get that car back NOW!!!

I will guarantee you it will not be right. Anyone can make an engine run good long enough to claim it was fine when it left the shop. He will screw you and screw you bad. Those kind of people won't change so don't expect to see your car for another 4 years if you leave it with him. He will jerk you around until you get an attorney. And no telling what may be missing from the car then. Those kind of people would trash your stuff if you threaten lawsuit, because they don't believe they are at fault. Get your car, be cool about it, don't mention legal action, leave him smiling. Then as soon as your car is safe from him, NAIL HIM TO THE CROSS!!!!!!!!
Jerks like that usually don't see it coming if you play your cards right. They are usually too ignorant to see what they are lining themselves up for. If they had any brains, they wouldn't want to put themselves in a position to be sued in the first place.

Its like going into the yard to get bit by the same dog..................again.

GO get the car and bring it here I will keep it inside and finish it sooner than that moron will. I have a machinist here that can fix the motor too, THE RIGHT WAY. While its out I can clean up the under hood area and paint that too.

Like I said, don't make any threats. Just get the car back and then let him have it. I have been in a similar situation before, with my motor until I got smart and sent it to Jim Weise. The original shop did similar things to me and I let them have a second try when it only ran for a few hours the first time. JW could attest to the horrible machine work they did. Some of which there was just no excuse for. They nearly ruined my heads. JW was barely able to save them because of their mistakes. Jim did a helluva job with what I gave him to work with. Can you imagine what a whole car gone wrong would cost to correct? Please get your car before it is too late!!!!

    same old story.

I went through this type of a nightmare with the Diabos at GS Auto in Canada.
Do not give the shop any more chances. He will just string you along and take money from you while he is doing it.
Some shops specialize in conning money from their customers and making excuses for missed deadlines, instead of just completing the project cars they have in a timely fashion.
GO GET YOUR CAR!!! DON'T GET DIABOED!!

i remember your plight, Larry. I think it around the same time as my problem.
I know I sound like a broken record, but please Bruce, get your car while you can. I know first hand how difficult it is to sever a business deal, even you you are getting jerked around. I felt I "owed" them a second chance, it's human nature to feel that way sometimes. But I would ahve saved thousands of dollars if I just said "no thank you" when they wanted to try again. But whatever decision you make Bruce, it's yours and we all should respect that. If the car stays there, none of us should berate you for it, I for one will not. Some times you have to do what is best for you, we don't know all the story and actually it isn't our business. But as friends we will try to guide you, and even if you make a mistake, I for one will support your decision. And I hope no one gives you the "I told you so" if something bad happens. You have to make your decisions based on what's best for you, and none of us know what that is. I think everyone here is classy enough to respect that. We are just trying to help. I hope you don't get angry about all these posts, but if you have heard enough, I won't beat it to death any longer.

    Just a thought

I'd take the extra minute or two and snap some photos of the car exactly as it sits in his yard before beginning to add air to tires, brush gravel off the hood ect ect. They will come in handy if the case makes it into court - it simply removes any emotion from the incident and puts things in a very concrete perspective for the judge to view.

Also, only then should money change hands as well - if you owe him anything (and I suspect you don't) let the court system tell you how much you'll be paying.

By all means when you go to retrieve the vehicle take your title, bill of sale and proof of insurance if you have them - when the police are called it'll establish ownership on the spot streamlining the transition from his lot to its rightful owner once again.

Get the car now, even if you have to push it down the road. There is no excuse for the shop's behavior - from what you have described, especially the engine situation, you know its only going too get worse.

WAIT!!! if you plan on sueing talk to a lawyer BEFORE you get your car. In picking up the car may mean that you are satisfied with the work done, when looked at in a court. if you don't plan on sueing GET THAT CAR NOW!. take photos of the engine as well. I like how a body shop will blow snow on top of your car knowing that it throws rocks on it. GRR.

Okay - This site is my husbands toy and I am just a hood rat. I just happened to be browsing. Now - thirty minutes later- I have read the last four pages. Needless to say I would love to feed the shop owner his own shoe - while it was still attached to his foot. It angers me to hear stories like this. Lied once(and often) this guy will continue. Sorry to say men are creatures of habit. Please go get your car and chalk anything lost up to experience. Next time watch your up-front money. It sounds like there are a lot of guys here willing to help you out. My husband has offered to help also - being an excellent bodyman, painter and of good size- I would gladly like to have him help you save another Buick from certain junk status. Please get the car any way you can - try the polite way but IMMEDIATELY be prepared to take it by force. Once he sees that you can not be tricked any more he will move or destroy your car more so than he already has. Time is of the essence, please do something except trust this moron again.

FOOL ME ONCE SHAME ON YOU - FOOL ME TWICE SHAME ON ME!!!!

Just wanted to add to my wife's advice.I am an auto painter and I will tell you one thing.GET THAT CAR AND DO NOT ,I STRESS DO NOT LET HIM GO ANY FURTHER ON IT.A shiny coat of paint can and will hide a multitude of sins.If this car has sat outside in primer it is developing rust under the primer.Primer is like a sponge IT IS NOT WATERPROOF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This damage will not appear on the surface of your new paint for a year or so and by that time you will be SOL.Take that car to a good shop and have all
lprimer and body filler this jerk put on it removed. This will cost you more money but if it has to be done after the car is finished it will cost you an entire paint job plus stripping more material off than is on the car now.THIS CAR NEEDS TO COME DOWN TO BARE METAL AND BE STARTED OVER NO IF'S AND'S OR BUT'S ABOUT IT. Get it and start fresh no matter what the cost or you can flush the money already spent right down the toilet.NEVER NEVER LET A CAR BE EXPOSED TO RAIN AND SNOW IN PRIMER ALONE.

OK guys......thanks for your advise/concerns. Let me fill in a few more details.

Water likely got into the carb as snow melted on the hood and worked it's way in. He had a piece of plastic over the small air cleaner. The scoop inserts were out allowing more to get in. Also at some points in the last few years I witnessed the car outside without a hood on but covered with a tarp. Later the tarp ripped and he put the hood back on.
I am really starting to think that this car has not beeen started in years and has been seized for quite some time and he was just not wanted to deal with it. I have parts cars outside that haven't been run in years and they turn over!
When the starter just clicked my inclination was to just charge the battery some more but he immediately put his hands on the crank pulley.....seemed a bit odd that he would do that so quick. I think he knew it was stuck and that's why he didn't pick up the phone when I called.
Anyway.....maybe he is a good actor but he seemed actually concerned and sorry. I got him to put in writing that he would "fix" the motor, pull the front clip off, paint engine compartment and finish the car (80 more hrs) for $3200.

The big question is how well he will fix it. He races a Road Runner (10 sec) so is not totally ignorant about motors and I know the guy at the machine shop that he says he will use. He verbally said that he would replace the pistons with forged (cast 8.5 in now) if need be.
Get this....if this had been some POS motor I wouldn't care as much but this conv ran 12.80 (113 cam, mildly ported heads, Edelbrock, headers, TQ, 3.42 rear) two weeks before I brought it to him 4 yrs ago. My intention with this car is....errr WAS to run NSCA American Muscle.....rollbar was removed but now you can run 12.50 w/o bar. A driver also......Dream on I guess......
The way I left it the guy said he will have the engine out this week and the car totally done in 8 weeks.
I've already got 2 cars apart at home so I'm thinking just let him do it. How horrible can it be?
If nothing gets done in the next couple weeks ....I WILL GO GET IT AND HAVE HIM PAY ME FOR THE MOTOR DAMAGE! The body work that he did has gone to hell and he should OWE ME money for that!!!!
Well in the meantime .....THE NIGHTMARE CONTINUES!!!! :blast:

You have SUCKER written across your forehead........LIARS DON'T CARE WHAT'S IN WRITING.........they continue to cover up their mistakes and and just keep on lying..........and what makes you think this guy would ever give you a dime back if he screws up (again)?

If you give him another dime you need to get your head examined!!! :Dou:

No offense intended, but c'mon......wake up and smell the coffee here!
