The thread about the bastard stepchild buicks got me thinking that all of us 68-69 owners should have a Bastard Stepchild Nation T-shirt to wear with pride.:beer There is a place two doors down from my work that makes custom design t-shirts. Now all we need is a good design. Anyone interested? Better yet doesn''t someone on this board make shirts??
Count me in! Would it be possible to have two pics on the shirt? A rear/side shot of a '69 showing the bumper (The Pop's pic is great!) and a front/side shot of a '68 showing the fake fender vents and rear mounted hoodscoop. These are usually main features used to identify the two years.
That is a good Idea:kodak: That is a cool Pic you posted Alan. Now we need a nice front shot. I think we need to have Buick Bastard Nation Somewhere on it.:beer
I would prefer red headed step child to bastard stepchild. Would be a more polite way of putting it. "1968-1969 BUICK GS" [Picture] "Bad Boy Red-Headed Stepchild" How about a picture of Danny DiVito and/or Arnold S with the cars. Remember the movie "Twins"? Something along these lines would be rather cute. Like the 68-69s got all the bad genes.
I think you guys are giving yourselves way too much credit. I would say all of the Buick lovers are the Red Headed Stepchildren in the performance world. I would say the 68-69 lovers are one degree further removed. That is just me but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last week. Matt
I am in. Unfortunately I would have to leave the "bastard" part off to have it due to the kiddies.(had to hide all the old college tshirts too, same reason) I started out just as a 70-72 fan but have warmed up to the 68-69 body style because they are unique and look different. I think the famous Hot Rod road test in 68 sums it up well when they say it looks like some sort of sporty mini-Riviera. Cool look, big motor. Not everyone has one. I need a 68 basketcase ragtop too so I can have the full set of projects from 68-72.
There is a guy in Lewiston, MN that had a 68 convertible project for sale. He had a 69 convertible parts car and a 69 coupe parts car. He wanted 4500 for all of it. He claimed the frames on the verts were really nice. If wanted I could go back and find the phone number.
Hey! That's my line when referring to the '70 Riviera! But it does seem the '68-'69 A-Body Buicks get the same treatment. Carry on. :beers2:
Shirts are pretty easy to make. Although you may be able to get a better bulk deal from the neighbor. I've made them before, uploaded them to zazzle, and they can be purchased there in a variety of different styles/materials. You can buy one at a time or several - the same images can be placed on coffee mugs and other things too.
Anyone got a nice clean shot of the front of a stock 68 GS that shows the unique features of the 68. The rear 69 shot that was posted was great.
If a 68/9 GS is a red-headed stepchild, then what the hell is a 68/9 Skylark. Everybody abuses the bottom of the pile so it's all in your perspective.:bla:
....I think I hear some Special Deluxe owner's groaning about your complaint Honestly - over the years I've come to realize that if it wasn't for the damn value thing i love them all the same as they are virtually the same
Even if the value was the same, I would still like the Buick better. I bought my Buick befor I knew of the board because I wanted something just a little different. The "Fast with Style" says it all. The value and the Buick community are the cherry on top.
Alan I agree, I used to think 68/69 cars were the ugliest thing ever. Then over the years I realized that to me they are the best looking A-body out there. :beer I like being different. :3gears:
...for me it was the other way around - I started out with my first car being a 69 Skylark. I Cant say that back then in 1980 that I thought it was all that, but over the years it became a part of me and me a part of it. Having owned at least one (if not 4 or 5) since then I never really developed the same "Love" for the other years as the 68/69's but I've come to appreciate them. ...just not as much :bla:
