If you think about what's going on there as the head drops vertical down from being cut, the shape of valley now is changed, but the intake hasn't.

Sometimes just thicker composite gaskets is all that's needed, not intake machining

Milling the heads or the deck the heads will sit lower making the V narrower so he would need thinner intake gaskets not thicker.

If the heads are milled that much, you're better off having the intake mounting surface of the heads milled than the intake. That way the intake will work on another engine and any intake will work on that engine or those heads on a different engine with a different intake.

I also am not even using the factory end seals because of how low the intake currently sits. How do I modify the factory valley pan gasket so I can just use a TA gasket?

I REALLY don't want to pull the heads off again, and I don't intend to change either these heads or intake for years, especially if everything ends up working.

    So have the intake milled.

John, If you go to Ta perf catalog they show how to modify v/pan gasket.

Or get a amp valley cover that sits on the end seals, and your right 300sbb...I was thinking about it backwards myself.......note to self I should give advice when I have been up more than 48 hrs with sick kids

    John,

I had my 430 zero decked. Took it down almost .050.
Used Felpro "printoseal" style gaskets and Permatex "Right Stuff" for front and rear of the intake to block and no seals. (I also have the valley return splash shield)

I did have to enlarge the two center bolt holes on each side of the intake a bit.
(I used a drill to keep the holes round, and the washers cover the holes so it is not visible).

I did set the intake on the heads with no intake gaskets, centered and checked for any mismatch/gaps, and there were none, so the geometry was still correct, only the intake floors in the intake and heads were off a bit, (Called Jim Weise and he said it would be fine like that) and the larger gap in front and back that the "Right Stuff" easily seals that.

    Hope that helps.

It certainly does help, but how are you all so adept at "checking for mismatch/gaps" and I still don't know the signs to look for?

To get a solid picture? Ok I will. I’ll stuff paper towels in the ports and get to work with a scalpel or something

The cam has been swapped, reassembly pending.
Waiting on water pump gasket, timing cover gasket, intake gaskets, and shaving the intake
