Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule "This proves that even if you don't drive a '57 Mopar it will rust to nothing." :gp: Greg, you nailed it - all of it. I'm still laughing. Actually, I saw a few cars that looked better than that after going through Katrina.
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule It's very possible that the water only got in the vault in the last few years,5,10,15,whatever it may be.So maybe that would explain the body in decent shape.
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule LMAO Man there isn't too much love for old Mopars in here, is there? oh well Agreed...they need to clean it up QUICKLY. Might not be a bad idea after that to stick the whole car in a big powdercoating oven or something for a couple hours to evaporate any remaining moisture
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule maybe Foose and the overhaulin' crew will take it, put a crate 426 hemi in it, and restore body to original, with 18" wheels
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule I personally can't wait to see it just cleaned up. Yes the interior is toast, but the body looks to be in decent shape, even if the rear suspension has collapsed.
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule Yeah, they ought to at least give it a light pressure wash-inside and out-water won't hurt it now. Then give it a really good cleaning and see what they have left. A friend had his brand new 1990 Chevy SS 454 pickup stolen when it was 4 months old. It wasn't found until 2000 when during a drought, the water levels of all the ponds and lakes around here dropped. The roof of my friend's truck was showing. Cops were called and tow company pulled it. My friend ended up with his truck back. The insurance company sold it back to him for a $100. Being submerged for 10 years,it didn't look too bad. In fact my friend got the engine to turn over. Closer look, though, there were rust blisters all over, rust holes in the weirdest places. After the interior dried, the seat springs totally crumbled. And of course, all of the electrical components were shot. He sold the truck for parts to someone ,with a clear title. I am sure that a 1990 shortbed Silverado somewhere got "made over".
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule I think most state laws require a vault. It keeps the casket from coming "back" up from the dead.
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule I see I'm not the only one who isn't wild about cars getting "Foosed" and thinks that Boyd and Duane are morons.

Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule that car looks very, very bad I seriously doubt anyone can save it
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule I wonder if it smells and how bad? Maybe they ought to wash it up and stick back in the ground in another time capsule for 2057.
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule I am with you! I dont care how much money they could throw at my car, I would never let them touch it. Brad.
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule I can't make up my mind if I want the car messed with or just left alone.
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule Saw some quips about this on the local news earlier this evening and the car actually doesn't look that bad. Obviously a lot of rust stains, but if someone would clean up that car, I bet you'd find a lot of usable real estate still left over. I wonder what motor's under the hood? Hmmm, '57...wouldn't that be a 354? Bob
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule Gahhh! I never wanted to clean something so bad in my life. *sends telepathic messages* At least its not this bad:  http://www.carsinbarns.com/Mopars%20In%20Barns/Moulin%20Page.htm Heres another one that spent too much time in the ground. uzzled: http://www.carsinbarns.com/Mopars%20In%20Barns/pg28.html
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule My wife and myself were discussing that yesterday. In MN a vault isn't required by law. (She was right) But, you at least have to have a casket cap to prevent the ground from collapsing years down the road. I wonder what year the vault was first compromised? :idea2: In one of the side pictures you can see the water line is level, those springs must have given away 30 years ago. I'm pissed at those who buried it 50 years ago for not giving enough consideration to water getting in. :blast:
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule Bob, it's a 301 poly...didn't make em after '57, but it's in the same engine family as the old 318 poly...
