I HOPE everyone takes this Seriously! It took me over 8 months to get things together from Harvey, & the Stress is Unreal. I Don't wish it on Anyone.
Take time to go around the House & Garage with a digital Camera & get all important papers in something safe & secure (You'll need all this for Insurance Claims)
The Main thing is to Be Safe. If an Evacuation is ordered, Do It.

Bringing our son and his girlfriend inland from Wrightsville beach, filling spare 5 gallon water jugs, checked all my mass of batteries and lanterns ,am radio, going out for bar and chain oil&mix for the chainsaw and praying it doesn’t do a Hugo on us. Still have some 200 plus year old oaks next to our 1890 farmhouse I have kept in the best shape possible but still gonna be praying because if they hit the house they won’t stop till they hit the ground. My inop 60 convertible & the 70 “X” are on their own.
    Praying everyone fairs safely

When Jim Catore shows up in your area, you know the weather is going to be bad.

It is trending a little north of its former track. Winds are down to 140 mph, but expected to increase after an eyewall replacement cycle. The models are slowing it down along the coast and beginning to diverge their solutions. Rain in Wilmington projected to be 24 + inches.

I forgot one very important item in my last post - Everyone should have what I call a "go" pouch. It should contain important papers such as insurance policies, titles, any documents that will be essential to preparing this year's income taxes, deed to your house (which should really be in a safety deposit box at your bank), rental agreement, passports, etc. I keep mine in a 2 1/2 gallon ziplock bag. Everyone in the house who is even close to being an adult should know where it is. If it takes more then 60 seconds to locate it, grab it, and go, it needs to be in a better spot.

Ryans-GSX Have fun, life is short.

Jim are you and your wife going to ride this out at your place or are you going to get out of town ? I sure hope all of your four legged family members stay safe and dry as well.

I think Jim said he is staying Ryan... He is the only one in town today buying a truck load of dog food for his 10 4 legged family members.
Might need it if that hill you live on turns into an Island Jim.

    Stay safe you guys.

We generate our own power on site. We could power several households. We have the guest house and the main house. With this many animals there is no travel option.

The ECMF (Euro) model runs are now bending the track down into SC. They have it tightly licensed and I cannot locate it on the net right now.

Now you see the 5 pm release has the American model beginning to come south to agree with the Euro solution which is a more southerly track.

Hey John... on the boat we call that a "ditch bag" with wallets, handheld VHFs, and phones etc "DOUBLE zip locked for your protection". Fritz is right on about prepping. Id be having the wife fill the 5 gallon jugs while Im getting fuel for the generator. Stock up on non perishable foods (and beer! ... its pasteurized LOL). A storm of this magnitude can knock you off the grid for a few weeks. Remember RITA in 2005?. The gulf area was lights out for a few weeks.
Wishing all you guys the best! Im not as close as Briz, but have 4 bunks on the yacht if you need to make a road trip. ws

Every other year, we rent a waterfront (gulf side) condo on Sanibel Island that some famous pizza guy owns. When Charlie hit in 2004, the “hurricane-certified” caretaker of the complex decided to stay and ride it out. Cantore and crew showed-up and were staying at the place next door. They anchored their weather vehicle down, and when the storm changed course and strengthened suddenly, they knew they were in line for a direct hit. They (WeatherChannel personnel) left the truck and headed into Ft. Myers. The caretaker asked where they were going, and Cantore said inland, it’s going to be bad lol. The caretaker chose to ride the storm out in an elevator at the top floor of a unit facing inland. He said the storm surge was incredible - he did peak out every now and then. The storm surge gauge in Cantore’s weather truck was pegged. The stories that the caretaker had of Charlie, and all the little things he did and knew to do, were really interesting to hear.
