Some of the largest known mosquitoes in the world are creating a buzz across parts of North Carolina, and residents have Hurricane Florence to thank for it.
An outbreak of blood-sucking mosquitoes called Psorophora ciliata, or “gallinippers,” which can grow three times larger than regular mosquitos, is being reported in parts of the state flooded by the storm, creating a public nuisance, health concerns as well as jokes that North Carolina has a new state bird.

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

I hope the mosquitoes don't bring a serious West Nile outbreak. The people, and animals, there have suffered through enough. We had a big mosquito problem up here without all the flooding.

Yes, them Skeeters are about the size of a quarter; you can see them in flight; and you feel them land, not just when they 'draw blood'!( I didn't even go to the linked site at first. We called them Zebra mosquitos.) We had them here back in '15 with all that rain, and in '16 with Hurricane Matthew.

I thought I was seeing swarms of birds, but they are skeeters.

The only good thing is that particular species of skeeter isn't known to carry any disease, that and their larvae eat the larvae of other skeeters and insects depressing their population. Wouldn't want to get bitten by that monster though.

Just like Bella Lugosi they love to suck your blood. Every one I have killed, squirted blood all over the place.
