Just remember that the longer the trailer, the easier it is to back up with. Plus, if you ever put a big car on it in the future, you have the extra couple feet. I would recommend an 18 footer if you can swing it. What do you mean clearances? Rich- There are a few more GS's on LI that are ripe for picking. Jason,I think he's talking about distance from rear of car to front of trailer? Pretty much a standard tongue length for all car trailers say 16 to 20 footers.
Exactly! I noticed the built in tire chocks and was wondering about having to do some "jack-knifing" for parking. Once I'm off the driveway I have several tight turns to make to park it and its impossible to do by hand in the dirt...especially with a double axle job! ws
Does the "wish it was a 70" light still work? That gizmo on the back side of the grille surround will hardly slow the gas ax, so I wouldn't be to concerned. Good pictures Jason, and no I haven't seen one but do see the need.
I was finally able to get this poor car off my trailer this weekend and pushed behind the garage, otherwise known as "the final resting place". Before I commit to parting it out, Im going to pull the engine out and try and unstick it. My plan is to pull the pan, turn it upside down and pour some Kroil into the backside of cylinders. I figure either way, the engine has to come out. Im starting to feel bad about this one
Oh baby, i can't get over how straight the bumpers are and how well the grill and hood line up. Doesn't look like it's ever been bumped front or rear! Trunk chrome strip and quarter pieces still there as well as many other good parts. Please be gentle with her when you hack her to death!:grin:
Do the Kroil through the plugs. It will make it past the rings, but keep at it as it will evaporate. Take the converter cover off the bottom and try barring back and forth against the ring gear. Ill bet it goes. Probably 1 or 2 intake valves were open and got a little condensation or mist from sandy in there. Are you anywhere near Amityville? ws
Im fairly sure this car was in Minnesota at the time Sandy hit. The hackmeister I got the car from took the heads and intake off already, so its just a short block in there. For the record, the Amityville horror house is about 20 minutes from meou:
You should feel bad about parting it. Straight original(even semi original) cars aren't that common any more. That one needs to run again.
I tend to agree as well. From the pictures, the body looks no more worse for wear than my car did when I started restoring it. But then I have a tendency to be a glutton for punishment...
Nice find Jason. Ho did you find this one (wink wink)? Is a shame its so rusted to shyt. The body lines are really nice. IMO not worth saving when a nice one struggles to bring $15K.
