When I was 16 , I'd say vote for #1 . Now , it's just a loss of traction and a new set of tires. (I'm getting old . ) I'd much rather go for a ride in a car than can scare the crap out of you just by it's sheer horsepower when it does hook up , than sit there with the tires smoking . I recently had my first ride in a 10 second car , and it was a lot better than cars I've been in that did good burnouts . My 2 cents . ( PS . It's REALLY getting old seeing the winner of NASCAR events do it . There's nothing wrong with a simple victory lap holding the checkered flag out the window , but I haven't seen that in years . If you are going to do one , pull a Harvick @ the Brickyard and blow the whole quarterpanel off of the car when your tire explodes . Now THATS fun to watch .)

Well, I'm on the short end of this one. Yes, I like a nice burnout on a dragstrip. Anywhere else is stupid. Even those NASCAR guys. If they were driving my car and did that at the end of the race, I'd fire them on the spot. In the days I ran a high horse car on the street, I never, was stupid like that, reasons: 1. Don't show what you have. Or in the case of 1 wheel wonders, don't show what you don't have. 2. It attracts attention you don't need-cops. 3. Makes you look like the redneck you are. I always worked hard to make my car leave hard and not spin, even on the street. There was nothing better than seeing a squirel in his GTO or SS smoking his right tire. You knew you were going to cash in on him. I ran for 2 years with a 90+% win record aganist these tire smokers, and enjoyed them all. The cars that worried me were the ones that weren't doing the big burnouts. Give me QUICK and you'll can have your SHOWY! JIm N.
I've now come from a point where, several years ago, I would've chosen #1 any day of the week, to now thinking that any burnout on the street shouldn't really last much longer than 5-10 seconds. They're cool, but to a point. Burnout contests are now somewhat lost on me... Any car, given 30 seconds, will produce a wall of smoke.
#1 for me. The neighborhood kids beg me to do it! who am I to deprive them of what they long for? Me and the BFG dealer in my area are on a first name basis. I walk in, he says 2 P295. 50. 15's?....gotta love a small town.
I guess that I will be the neighborhood grinch and agree with Kevin Mccolloug and gymracer01, I also agree with them on the NASCAR bit. I am always hoping that Mark Martin or Jeff Burton will win; there will be no silly burnout. Burnouts don't really prove anything. The longest strip that I have ever seen laid down on the street was in Wellesley MA. by a 1950 Ford six cylinder stickshift. On the other hand, if I was still in the tire business, I would say "Go for it!"
AMEN! I don't see anything wrong with a burnout...even in parking lot of the DMV. What is unsafe about them? I mean really...a grandma who can't see over the sterring wheel...that is dangerous. I remember when i was 16 and had my car running well nothing would blow off steam or make me instantly have a smile more than going and doing a burn out. Can't describe the way it makes me feel...but i have a special bond with my car because of that. One night after a movie with my GF at the time...we were leaving the parking lot. And anyone from ky knows how many mustangs there are running around with loud exhaust thinking they can stomp anyone...so one was behind me at a stop sign (still right in front of the movie theater in the p lot) so i decided to just roast them right then and there in front of him...he had to wait about 30 seconds to pull away because he was in a cloud of smoke....i know a little childish but seriously that is funny. I can only imagine what he was saying about me :laugh:
I had a friend in highschool who had a 1991 Mustang, the 4-banger. It was quite damn funny to watch him roast his tires... They would spin.. at like.. 5 mph lol Of course he was only doing it to be funny, he knew the car wasn't fast or special or anything.. haha I had a 89 Nissan 240SX that could roast the rears pretty nice, as could my 86 Nissan 300ZX....... wow.. now that I think about it, I've only ever owned 1 fwd car.. and that was a 89 Regal! My BMW 540i could do a nice roast but... 17" tires get expensive so....yah

Missed a cruise meet point on Friday night, had to make a U-turn across the highway and go back. Got stuck in the turn lane, couldn't see passed an oncoming car in the other lane, so frustration was rising. Finally had a chance, so "lit 'em up" a ripper! Smoke everywhere across the lanes, tyres, motor roaring. Was a goodie. Filled the hearse with smoke too, choking stuff. Anyway, rolled into the hotel carpark a minute later, smoke still bellowing from the windows, me coughing up my smoke filled lungs. Who do I roll on by? The Fuzz, checking another car out! They turn, look at me........They must have heard it, it was only a couple of hundred feet away. I sheepishly give them a wave, they wave back......."Nice hearse." "Thanks officers......" Close one.

A lot of burn outs are done by people who don't know how to race or don't know how to make their car run good enough to race. So they do burn outs to make people think their cars are fast. I probably wouldn't have posted this but my wife made me go to a free wine tasting event at the local winery and I had to get it off my chest. Burnouts proof nothing unless you are already going 35 mph or more. Then you are showing some class.:TU: Bob H.

Burnouts are COOL! My carbon foot print was pretty large that day, but I made up for it by installing compact flourescent bulbs at home. :laugh:
