Hey Doug, you should get with BillM and put his 350 into your car and see how it flys.. Im sure you could hit the low 8s high 7s
After taking it all apart, Doug the rest of your rods look good! You only lost 2 of them!! Also need 2 pistons, and of course a new girdle!!:Smarty: HERE THAT MIKE FROM TA!!! The crank can be fixed, that just leaves you the expense of doing another station wagon block? I think we can lower the RPMs on it with a gear change, that should keep it together longer!! Is there anyone out there who wants to help my friend Doug with a donation.:dollar: He is very upset, and I think ready to through in the towel till a new block is made? That may be years!!:eek2: I know I will help him out with labor, as I always do!!
No way. Been there done that:blast: And my motor now don't need no stinkin' girdle:3gears: (till it blows up again:Brow: )( oh I could not find one fast enough for the rebuild) When is TA comin' out with stuff when we need it?
Hey Fish, Did ya read the whole thread? The third post down by Bruce Hunter. It answers your question. As it happens, this isn't even the first girdle destroyed by me!
Doug, Sorry to hear the bad news. Are your lifter bores bushed? Is your main saddle grooved? and if your lifter bores are bushed then did you add more oil because of the loss of oil caused by the lifter bore bushing???
I know alot of you are grooving the main saddle, but has anyone doing this ever spun a main bearing?I would think you wouldn't want oil pressure behind the bearing.
Nope, not bushed. Scotty said that just makes them thinner. Main saddle is not grooved. Probably will be next time.
Hi Doug, I made a tool for grooving the main saddles. If you need it I can ship it out to you or maybe drop it off next week. I'm flying back east on friday to pick up Dads ashes & Mom, and driving there motor home back to B.C. The plan is to go through the US to try and avoid the mountains (Snow) If time allows it I would like to meet you in person. I'm am very surpized the your main saddles weren't Grooved that is a huge thing. I have attached a pic of a saddle that I did with my tool, you must put a radius on both sides of the feed hole.....Chris
ya know Detroit Diesel has been cutting long slots in the middle of the main bearings for about 50 years now, and on the uppers on the rod bearings.... must work for them.... I 100% agree with street rep on the oil behind the bearing, without full center slots, that's not good
