Which Ram Air System Would Work Better ?

Well I need some help in deciding which ram air set up to use. I could use the typical stage II hood scoop of which is fine. Or..... I was thinking of using a ram air box with both pieces of flexible tubing going to the high beam holes in the core support. Similar to the old Ford Thunderbolts. I was thinking the second mentioned system here would be more effective in getting more air to the carb in qtr. mile racing. I'm also thinking I would be having hood clearance issue with an SP1 or SPX. Any thoughts ? Thanks, John Biggs.

I would go with the ram air box and the tubes. Somewhere on the site there a 70 lark with that set up and its sweet

Maybe think about going with the cowl area fresh air setup, real stealthy until you open the hood. Peace, Mike D.

If you are going to run the ram air box, I would not run it into the headlights, I tried the same thing, and it was bogging the car down. I now have it running under the bumper, but have yet to make a pass to see how it works.:3gears: :3gears:

Doesn't someone make a gsx spoiler with built in openings and tubing that goes to an airbox which fits around the carb?

    Hi John,

Mike's idea is a great one, and Buick engineers actually offered such a cold-air system in 1968. Someone on the board, surely has info on the cut-out location and dimensions for the firewall/cowl area, as well as what's needed to modify an air cleaner assembly, with ducting requirements. Dave K. (WE1) will have some info, I think.

    Take care,

    Nando.

Can one of these ramair boxes be used with a stock hood and a SP1 or SPX ? John B.

I have an sp1 intake, and the hood hits a little bit. But, I bought the wrong set-up for my car:spank: :spank: ,I bought the 80 degree box, and it sits on top of the alternator a little.I don't have the hoses run yet, but when I get it together I will try to post some pics.

The 110 degree Ram Air Box system is the one I have.As I recall I have the 1.5 inch drop base .Using a 950 Biggs/Holley with a Performer intake.Got the 4 inch Air Box.Would suggest using the 3 inch with the SP1 as the SP1 is a little over an inch taller than the Performer I believe. Will try to get pix later.Have had system on the car for over 6 years.Works great.Using through the headlights trumpets with the battery relocated to the trunk.I should do a clay test on the aircleaner to see if I have any clearance of any significance.I know it's not touching although one of the hoses is close to contact. The hoses appear to be stand a tad more proud than the main part of the box.A good setup.

If ya can't do both headlights 1 will do also.
Can use a regular stock air cleaner assembly for that.

    Though two is cooler.

I ran just one for a while on my wagon, only took it off as I wanted to be able to see more of my pretty new intake n carb.

What I meant when I said this ,was that just taking out the headlite did not work. If you were to open it up like Radster did in his pic with a 4 in trumpet, then I'm sure it would work. Maybe Radster can reply, but I yhink you have to do some cutting to get it to fit.
