Yes there is a bit of cutting to enlarge the holes to fit the trumpets.Well worth any aggravation though if you are not an absolute purist. Rod
Did you get yours from the "ramairbox.com" What setup do you think is best to get for my rivi? Did you just use dryer air ducting material?
www.spectreperformance.com http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e132/buickgrandsport/100_5645.jpg ran 4" hose under rad support
Could you post a picture of where the openings are mounted? I am looking at doing this for my red car, and I do not want to cut up the core support.
I never strip tested my car before the ram air box setup was installed.I think it is helpful-probably about a tenth or two at the most.I recall there was a magazine test or two on the ramairbox.com site that claimed a two tenths improvement.I would certainly recommend that proprietary brand. As to whether one would have more difficulty with an installation on a Riv I am not sure.I honestly have not seen enough of those cars to even make an educated guess.I feel comfortable in saying that a three inch box would work well if clearance is a problem. The only negative is that 4 inch inlet hoses are still used and I haven't seen how the manufacturer angles the "box" inlets(in terms of the vertical dimension) to prevent possible hood contact problems.Yes I am using dryer vent material.I would like to get the rubberized tubes as they are likely more durable and look better. It is amazing how many people at a car show see the dryer vents and start laughing!! Oh well! Rod
Very cool. Are there any grills to go over the headlight openings like the ford had? Also, is there a High/Low beam single headlight conversion kit that you know of to make it fully functional on the street?
You can buy screening material and fashion covers for the trumpets.I think they look better uncovered, especially if you polish the trumpets. The lights I used are Bosch halogens with high and low beam.Work great, way better than the original four lights. The arrangement passes our safety inspection here in N.S. Thanks rod... Im planning on getting this system from summit http://store.summitracing.com/partd...&N=700+4294925239+4294813803+115&autoview=sku Im hoping ill get a seat of the pants feel improvement... Im gonna install em going down to the bottom vents in the bumper since i dont have stationary headlights
Rod I have always liked your car and especially the numbers it puts up at the strip for the combo. I think the silver dryer tubes look fine. Thanks for sharing the pics and the info.
I appreciate the kind words Greg. You have some tremendous vehicles there by the way.I would go nuts over having that Wildcat and the Buell too. While that old dryer vent stuff is OK I would rather have the heavy duty hose look as per the old Thunderbolt Ford. Cheers, Rod
I picked up 2 tenths with my own set up. I have 2 stealth scoops under the front bumper that follow the bumper lines. Almost impossible to see them. No cutting of car whatsoever. Uses K&N filter. Theres a 1050 Dominator residing within it. Larry
How did you get past the radiator and core support with the tubing? Or did you go "under" the core support?
What do you guys use, or recommend using, for grilles or screens on the ram air system... I'm not too excited about picking up a bunch of stones/bugs/water etc. I was checking out Spectre, they have the headlight replacement funnels that look to be around 4" openings... would that be sufficient air flow if I replace both headlights?
Craig, With my through the headlight setup I don't get enough "junk" going into the airbox to justify screens.Maybe with lower pickup points there might be concern.Of course my car is on paved roads, mostly fair weather.I have been caught in the rain for a couple of hours at a time though with no significant effect. You can always take a screwdriver with you and take off the hoses in a couple of minutes too if you want. Rod.
