Yeah it was pretty solid and stored inside for the last 15 years. Going to be saving a ‘68 that was wrecked in 1971.
Every morning, I come down to the garage, hit the lights , heater and radio and enjoy my own version of Cars & Coffee. I read the news, cruise the internet for Buick stuff, and figure out what I’m gonna screw with today. Sundays are special because American Top 40 with Kasey Kasem is on.
This makes me think about a joke I heard Jay Leno make. You don't need to wonder about where car guys are. They are in the garage...
Finally got around to replacing the core support mounts in the 67. These are the square ones. You can see they are identical to the originals. I will update Jon's thread with the details. Have to clean the rust up and repaint.
Went back to the fest for day 2 with the Wildcat. Only a few of the same cars from Sat showed up and we ended up parking close together again. The other 20+ cars were all new muscle. Bling'd out Challengers, Cameos ect. Lots of sticker cars with blinky lights and murals of super heros under the hood. I kept the hood and trunk closed on the Cat until the judges showed up. Nothing really show worthy to see in there. Several older folks came buy and said things like " I learned to drive on one of these". Was a really nice Florida February day. Cat squeaked out a high top 20 trophy and I hit the 50/50.
I went through my 2-lb coffee can of brass fittings looking for three plugs for holes in the new TA intake manifold. The vacuum passages may have been 1966 only, as the Quadrajet manifold that was originally on my engine had them, but the Edelbrock Carter-carburetor manifold that I was running on my engine did not. I don't know what year the AFB manifold was, but most likely not a '66. Murphy's law being alive and well - guess how many of the plugs were in the can? If you guessed two, you are a winnah! Now I still have to go to the Hardware store. Rats.
Here’s part of my plating load glass beaded ready for the plating company. Dropped it off today, my contact was out so I expect a call tomorrow with a quote. I hope he goes easy on me. Some will be Silver some gold/ yellow.
Update: I support local businesses, but unless it's a life or death situation I have purchased my last Brass fitting at my nearby hardware store. $5 for a 1/8 pipe plug! I checked online, and could get one for 95 cents. At the hardware store prices my 2-pound can of fittings is worth over a grand. Wow! The same hardware store has raised the price of my whole-house water filter from $9 three years ago to $19 now. I just ordered and received 6 of the cartridges online for $42. I don't mind paying a little extra locally, but I'll be damned if I'm going to let them fleece me.
I feel for ya John. I just paid $5 for a 2-pack of Dorman Chinese oil drain plug gaskets for a Chevy small block. I used to have quite a few of those years ago when they were less than a dollar. Must have used them all up...
I picked up most of the parts from the plater, time to assemble the shifter and shift rods. Hurst chrome shifter stick will take a little longer.
swearing at the clocking on this PowerMaster 9511 starter. Trying to figure out how it works on a 455 car with exhaust manifolds let alone on my car with the unknown headers. It'll have to wait. It's Jeep/Moab time for the upcoming weekend.
It does. I've been crawled under and adjusted that thing 5-6 times. It's pretty close but I need to check flexplate depth vs the gear
Man, you talk about a labor of love cleaning, buffing masking & with 546 segments front & back of each lense it’s not “what have I done today”(daaaaayssss) but this one in foreground is getting close!
Got the red line tire stickers in the mail and installed them on the Wildcat. Now in thinking about a red pin stripe. Might try the sticker type to see if I like it then if so find a painter to do it permanent
