I would try a permanent red Wide Sharpie from Hobby lobby. Heck even a flat red spray paint I bet would work nicely, don’t even need to tape them off just use laquer thinner and wipe off the excess.
I charged the battery. I'm sure it's a lost cause. My starter is delivered. I need to install that. My steering wheel is delivered. I need to install that. My power steering brackets are delivered. I need to install those and find a pump.
Tony - I simply use car soap on my Diamond Back redlines. I spray some "wet look" detailing spray for car shows. They do not have the issues the white walls do. Nice tires. I believe the III's are T/A radials.
Since I was working from home today, and the weather seems pretty nice for the moment, I took the GS400 out at lunch time for some errands. One of them involved filling it up with gas. It fired right up and ran awesome, as it has since the Everyday Performance rebuilt distributor was put in it, a year and a half ago. Looks like it's been a couple weeks since it was last started and driven. I've been busy with the new project truck lately, so I haven't done anything to the Buick, except drive it.
I didn't "do it to a Buick today", but I did do it this week. Bought and paid for, just waiting on pickup and delivery from IN. Special thanks to Rusty Davenport for inspecting it for me!
I installed a '71-'72 turn signal lever with cruise control on my Skylark today and wired up the switch to operate my line lock.
One step closer to Bowling Green. Got the correct 14” rims with Polyglass tires installed. Along with a trunk mat and of course a Polyglass spare. Try my hand at concourse one more time while she still looks pretty. Well looking back since her maiden voyage after a frame of restoration in April 2022 I have amassed 2000 miles in 2 years. She’s built to be driven and hope to flip the odometer back to 00000 before Bowling Green. Guess I should start logging my hours spent cleaning LOL.
Bolted on the coil assembly to my new TA manifold. I have encountered one minor problem with the manifold that I can fix - The boss for the AC Compressor rear bracket is a whisker taller then factory. The bracket bolts to a special head bolt, two places on the back of the AC compressor, and the intake manifold. They all have to align perfectly. I'm doing a bit of filing, and eventually I'll get everything to align. I suspect that most of these Aluminum Nailhead manifolds will be used in non-AC applications, but I live in SW Florida, and the AC is not a luxury. I could use my Dremel tool to grind the boss down, but I don't want filings everywhere.
Been working on the drag car trying to get jobs done before the warm arrives and the 1/4 replacements begin.Made a rear package shelf for the back out a set of damaged aluminum wheel tubs. I think it came out good. The seam was an afterthought but lined up well. Then I made template to have a window net made since my car has a swing out bar and not solid mounted door bar.
Out and about for fresh gas on a beautiful 65F. Day in February. I’ll say this about the ‘73 455, it doesn’t have the snap of the 1970-72, but the “pulling like a freight train” past 60 mph is still there, it doesn’t stop pulling until you want it to!
Finally got around to start replacing the T8 8' flourescent bulbs with LEDs. Huge improvement, esp in an unheated shop in winter. Have 2 of the 5 fixtures converted, will have to move 2 cars (both current on 4 jackstands) & a pile of stuff to do the other 3- later in spring.
Got BB mounts installed, and new heater core. Now back to cleaning and prepping the rest for paint. Also ordered a disc brake conversion kit today.
Took the Riv to a little show that was part of the strawberry festival at the fair grounds. Around 30 cars showed up Riv was popular. Peoples choice judging. She won best of show and a 100$ gift cert to be used at the vendors in the festival. Today they are having another show but with a celebrity judge. IDK who it is but heard he likes more original cars over the modified ones so going back with the Wildcat. Shes not really show ready but still presentable. Spent the last part of yesterday afternoon cleaning up the leftover body shop residue
