Set aside the day to install the Tomahawk into the Skyhawk. Took about 4 hours of trying to remember where everything goes and bolting stuff up. Biggest PITA was the Tq converter. Had barely enough room on the L side of the engine to get a wrench in there. Could have gone in through the starter hole but then would have no way to turn the engine over. Cant wrench on the mandril and the mid plate completely encloses the flex plates ring gear. Will put in some more time today, .
Took my Skylark, er Special to the Layton Utah (very near Hill Air Force Base) Sounds of Freedom show yesterday with 3 GS cars and a 64 Riviera. The copper color (code 62 if I remember correctly on the tag) GS 350 'vert is a survivor car. Red GS 350 is a car on its way back from the dead by a local retired aircraft mechanic. Car was bought out of New Jersey and had quite a few issues. He's making a nice car out it. Blue Stage 1 with the saddle/buckskin interior has been owned for the past 30+ years Nice little 64 with a 455 Buick and a 56(?) Bel Air dash AMAZING daily driven '33 that is daily driven by a similarly amazing 80-something year old gentleman. Has a small block Chevy (he couldn't find parts for the straight 8 56 years ago and swapped in a 55 Century engine--that expired about 12-15 years ago and he again couldn't find parts and went with the TPI 350) and 700r4. He DRIVES it from Utah to California and wherever. He's headed to Spokane, WA in a few weeks for the BCA Buick event. He was pretty proud to say it runs down the road at 70 mph and gets 22 mpg. Despite the Chev TPI, it's still an amazing car. How often do you see one of these?
Went to an AACA Lake Erie regional meet today. Its a points based show and not popular voted. The GS actually took first place in my class ahead of a Camaro Pace car, Camaro SS396 and a Hemi RR and many others. The old stepchild did well Only 2 other 68-72 Buicks at the show including 1 70 GSX.
Today I made up lines and plumbed the car for oil and fuel. Added 7 qts of Liquid Molly and primed with a drill. Got 60 PSI and only found 1 leak. Gonna have to get Summit to exchange that fitting.
Pulled the motor, transmission and got all of the body bushings out in anticipation of getting the roll cage installed.Hopefully,it will get done soon and parts can be put back together...
I got a Harbor Freight 20% off coupon on email today, so I took a drive up there in the Buick, on my lunch break. Picked up a vacuum pump in preparation to fix/update the AC. Their 2.5 cfm pump had some pretty good ratings. Sunday, I'll go back and get the manifold gauges, cause I can use the same coupon again! Oh yeah... aside from the rich idle (been that way for a couple years now), it did great as usual!
Drove my cutie to work today. Have a show that shuts off entry at 5:15 this afternoon. I should probably be there by 5:00. Expensive to drive but pretty fun. We are having AWESOME weather in Utah this year. Supposed to hit 72* today.
If you go on their web site, you can get the coupon. Can only use it on one item and one day at a time... If you can't find the coupon, text me your email address and I'll forward the one I got.
Well bummer... I think that is almost always the case with their coupons. It worked on the vacuum pump though.
Picked my heads for my GS yesterday afternoon, but right now I’m replacing the left motor mount on my Tahoe.
I bought a vacuum pump and manifold gauges from Harbor Freight a few years ago used it to vac and recharge the wife’s Tahoe A/C after I replaced a shitty O ring. It worked GREAT!
My goal for tomorrow is to fire off the Skyhawk. Im so close. Need to install the carb and headers then it should be go time
