Just want to make a comment regarding the timeline. I am a Project Manager at work. I spend all day generating and updating timelines, and chasing project contributors. If there is one type of project that is totally unpredictable, it is an R&D project. What makes this type of thing worse is when it does not have a dedicated staff, it is "another" project being done by someone with a full-time job. There is a possibility that most of the way through the project, everything will have to be scrapped and go "back to the drawing board". There is the possibility that an outside vendor will not meet his obligations (who doesn't know about this in some for or another). There are just a million possibilities about things that can happen. It is not possible to predict a timeline like this with any certainty. In fact you can't even estimate one. bob, not me starting the contest. all i ever ask for is a timeline from t/a. 6 mnths, a year, 2 years??? t/a made the statements, just asking when. i certainly didnt make the statements. isnt that permitted by a customer??? seems like a logical question to me. doesnt it to you if your were the customer? just give me an idea. i'm not a mushroom.
If you look at how long these 'I want an intake and heads' threads have been going with no available product on the near horizon, you can see how some of us get frustrated. I, for one, am done waiting for T/A or Poston. That is why I am having a 'GSJohnny' built. I wan't to mprove my car NOW, not in a couple years, maybe. Call me impatient, but... Geez John, lighten up. You don't pass up a single opportunity to badger Mike on the boards about timelines for 350 heads and intakes. He doesn't even know if the 455 blocks will be done by next summer. And YOU KNOW he has already stated the block has to be finished first. Why don't you call Poston and ask them when they'll make a SP 350 intake or alum 350 heads. :spank:
Darrin, I think it's great that John can build you a 350 intake. You'll be having fun with it while others of us are waiting for TA. As for the poll threads, TA didn't start them. How long ago they were started by members here has no bearing on when TA can make the parts happen. This particular thread was started by TA just a few months ago, in June, to announce their plans for these products.
David, I realize that TA didn't start them all. I realize that those threads have little or no bearing on TA throwing his hat in the ring to make the parts. What I am saying is that if I say I am going to do something, then I darn well make sure that I can back it up with a timeline before I say that I am going to do it. The reality is that it doesn't matter if you are selling widgits, manufacturing parts, or managing people/products/services, if you commit verbally to doing something and someone asks for a timeline, you better be able to come up with an answer. Even if it is not the answer that people want to hear. All that I am saying is that we have heard talk of a product and nothing more. I realize that there are outside influences in the manufacturing world, as stated in previous posts, that make it difficult to make promises. I also know that if I had something in the works that I couldn't GUARANTEE delivery on, I probably wouldn't mention it to get people's hopes up. Not even if I was concerned that someone else might beat me to the punch. I am not trying to start an argument here and I am quite certain that when the products do in fact make it into the hands of the Buick community, they will work great and we will all rejoice and sing the praises of the small block Buick engine. Darrin, I do understand the point of view. What I wonder is why John apparently has not bothered to call Mike directly and talk to him about the 350 projects. All he does is continue to post his demands for a public announcement of a delivery date on internet forums, and tell TA how they should run their business. He did it on BPG, now on V8. TA has a phone, why not call Mike if he just HAS to know more? It should be obvious at this point that TA is not yet in a position to throw dates out here. I'd rather know these 350 parts are in the business plan, than not hear a peep out of TA until they are boxed up and ready to ship.
lmao poston couldnt even give a real life eta for the buick engine book, they had my money for 6 months..called up maybe once or twice a month and they kept giving me the same it'll be here in 4 weeks b/s i know nothing comparable to an intake and heads as theyre extreme projects but some people get irritated when they have to wait for something they want :grin: i'm in no hurry now for this as i'm just trying to finish my current setup..but in two more summers it better be here lol :beer
