Read back a few pages in this thread, we covered the same question. But basicaly the single plane intake is better for higher rpm reving with heads and exhaust that can flow big time. Not your typical 2000-5500 rpm street car but the 3500-7000 rpm race cars need the single plane intake.

What changes can I expect (power wise) if I just put an intake on?

currently there are only dual plane aftermarkets available. most tests show very little performance gain from simply swapping in these intakes as the factory irons seem to flow pretty well for what they are.

biggest thing you'd gain with the intake is taking weight off the front of the car.

you'd show more gain if you took the intake swap as an opportunity to do some home made port matching. just to make sure there's not any reversion at the intake/gasket/head interface. if that went well you could then attempt some pocket porting on your stock heads. i wouldn't do home-grown port work on the coming aluminums though.

Since TA obviously isn't ready to publicly post a timeline, why don't you give Mike a call and speak to him personally? Don't expect alum 350 heads real soon. Those race ported heads you mention might be the way for you to go if you don't really want to wait to see how the 350 projects come along. The SP intake is hopefully on a much faster track than heads though. Call Mike, he loves to talk Buick on the phone. 480-922-6807. Or email TA. taperf@aol.com

If I have some idea of when these heads will be available, and for what price, it could be worth the wait. The wait, however, is yet to be defined, or even BALLPARKED!

    the production order is intended to be;
    1. 455 Tomahawk aluminum block
    2. single plane 350 intake
    3. Street Eliminator 350 head

as the Tomahawk does not yet have an announced date i would certainly not plan on having the heads in time to put together an engine for next race season. we could easily be out past that.

Me: Does this excite you that I'm this excited?
    Mike from TA: uhhh?
Me: Its ok Mike no need to be shy because I'm really really excited.
Mike from TA: Ok I think we established that already.(while laughing)
Me: Mike you just don't seem to understand. This excitement is almost unbearable and it makes me wanna scream things in different languages.
Mike from TA: Well ok then.
Me: Mike I have your car.
    Mike from TA: what car?
Me: The car you will never see again unless you make me an SP1 Aluminum intake.
    Mike from TA: *CLICK*

I sure hope ya made that up because if not, we are less likely to get a intake at all with "support" like that. I called, gave them my info and told them to call me when its ready. If 100 people called and said the same we'd get it quicker than if people complain and grind ta.

I don't meen to be controversial but c mon everyone!

I'd never harass Mike like that.. That is unless we were dressed up like Lost sheep and he wanted to be Bo-peep but that's not the case here is it?

BTW I will trade forty sheep for an aluminum sp1 intake.

    Go Buick,
Just wanted to chime in and voice my support of more upgrade parts(aluminum heads specifically) for the Buick 350. More interest=better chance of more parts. I am looking forward to building a killer 350 SBB combo to show many of the SBC naysayers(friends of mine) what can be done and still be different. Keep up the good work TA and thanks for all you do for us.
    Thank you,
    Joe D

You guys are FUNNY. I have no solid time line at this point. We are still trying to finish up on the 455 aluminum block & heads. I'm going to try and get the 350 intake started during the completion of the new big block parts. I think the intake should be done first, but Sherri thinks I should do the heads first. She tells me that she has never had a request for a single plane intake. Any ideas how we can fix that? Anyway, the intake should take less time to get finished and be a less expensive part to purchase.

I may stick with the DP intake, and just go with the heads....... I am holding out on putting another set of heads on the green car right now. I am hoping the next set to go on there are NOT made of iron!! :TU:
I am hoping to get something streetable in the 425-450hp range, so I'll swap cams again at that point............ I'll be calling you when the time comes!

yeah, she's never been on the bbs's has she? there's an entire multi-page thread floating around here somewhere that's about nothing but a 350 single plane.

but whatever floats your boat Mike. you can see the way these guys are slavering. they'll take anything they can get as fast as you can give it to 'em.

Any ideas on how we can fix that? Yeah, come on everyone who wants an intake call ta and tell them you want to be contacted when they are ready like I did!!!!!!

Sheri has a point, there will be lots of people who wil want the alum heads and stage 1 dual plane intake instead of the single plane to make a street/strip motor. However, there are MANY people using the SP intake on the 455 on the street, since the buick motors make so much low rpm torque anyway unlike other brands the SP intakes work okay on the street. Just my opinion....

There is a huge thread over at BPG regarding building a single plane intake out of a mopar intake so speak up you guys/gals and we can get the parts we NEED.

We need BOTH the heads and intake. I will commit to 2 SP intakes and one set of alum heads. I've left my info with you guys at ta just waiting for a call saying they are ready, but I understand the progression and order your working on these parts at.

    Thans again TA, Sean Gaskin

TA, THANKS for the parts development. I am definately interested in heads as it would be an easier swap for me as I don't want to try porting my heads. I will leave my iron heads on until the aluminum are ready. I'll start stashin cash from the mrs in my toolbox (where she never goes), (or the kitchen) so I have the $$$$ when they are ready. Already have a DP intake. Thanks again and I will be patient as my car is at least a year from hittin the street.

Good points Fox's Den (Guy isn't it?)

My opinion on this whole situation:

Ta hinted that they need some capital or at least commitment of interest to reduce the risk of producing the intake and heads.

Ta would follow through with quality bottom end parts once the heads and intakes have paid for the R+D and tooling costs that they are spending to step up and make the 350 a REAL player. If the heads and intake don't sell very well then TA will not make the crank and rods for us in my opinion.

Which would leave us DIE HARD BUICK 350 fans to get custom parts made at high dollar to complete the most potent factory block smallblock around. Once we get these motors built and start making many brand bigblocks look silly then the ta heads and intake will sell like crazy as everyone jumps on the bandwagon. Unlike the 455 the 350 will rev HIGH with the right parts.

Childs and Albert, and Mondello have made at least one set of rods each for the 350 as well as the recent company who made a batch and posted on here. Eagle has already made a crank for Bill M and could make more if we wanted. The key would be for a bunch of us to get together and convince these companies to make a batch for us at an affordable price.

I for one would be interesting in making a personal investment in the effort with money to get things going. I believe in these motors! Did ya notice?

I believed in this motor ever since I seen Sonny Seal do it with his 350. This was a long time ago, (about 1990), his car always ran fast and with a little 350 at that. The last time I seen his car run was when he had that accident at Norwalk. I looked under the hood of his car and he had Two, that's right 2 four barrel carbs on his car and what looked like a Hogan Intake possibly? I think he was running in the 11's and he had no power adder and he had a full size Buick. These motors have a lot of potential just waiting to get released. C'mon TA hurry it up this is killing me. I am ready for the intake right now. I am in. Who else is in.

I AM INI think the intake should be based on th SPX/Wildcat design and the heads should flow out of the box better than anything possible with ported iron ones. with room to go bigger. My plans for the OPEL are a C/M round tube chassis and a nastayy SSB I am in for heads and a real intake:3gears:

Anybody else going to step up to the plate? What you mean that I am going to have the fastest 350 on the block in a heavyweight car? Lets tell TA that we want a Intake. Are you IN?

I will try to pull a 10.99 when I get the intake. I only need to go .81 sec to do it. I wonder how much nitrous I will need on top of that 125 shot to do it?

I think you need a custom cam or at least a different one. I'm convinced its your cam thats holding you back.
