Mike, just as a side note, how does the Rover head fit into the development timeline? I was on the phone with your dad and we talked about being able to use it on the full SBB line from the 215's up through the 340's and even possibly the 350's (with a custom ground cam). His main objection was having to make an intake but I think spacer plates (perhaps even with injector bosses) would make it feasible. Not to be butting in on BBB news but you check this thread regularly so I thought I'd ask. Jim
Honestly Jim I don't know, I havent talked to him about it in a while. The last I knew it was being worked on but that was a while ago. I'll ask later when I get home.
we talked about being able to use it on the full SBB line from the 215's up through the 340's and even possibly the 350's heeheehee. i'm such an evil bastard. thanks for bringing that up to him, Jim. as i've never had my hands on a 1st gen, 2nd gen or Rover small block i didn't consider myself to have enough actual knowledge on this to really be pushing it. His main objection was having to make an intake a - if seanbuick is correct about the mid-70s to the end of the run 350 blocks being an 1/8"(?) taller deck than the earlier run production, any 350 intake he designs will probably need spacers for the last half of the run no matter what. b - he could divert that 350 SP design effort into a 1st/2nd gen SP effort + spacers and have nearly a net wash. :eek2: :Brow: ps - i know TA considers the 300 and 340 to be part of the "1st gen" design but i just can't convince myself that iron blocks and taller decks don't deserve their own generation designation. i consider it as: 1st gen = 215 with Rover derivatives as a direct branch 2nd gen = 300 + 340 3rd gen = 350 all by its lonesome http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rK9z70MFEwk
The Rover head is still being designed, the ports are all done so the design of the head is basically all that is left (to my knowledge). We're also expectng to have 350 roller cams by the end of the month.
No just trying to satisfy the 350 crowd, they've wanted parts for a while so we'll get them going first.
Yes, we whine to give you money. chill dude. it wasn't the most politic thing to say but you need to look at it from their position; they have heard from somebody every week for the last 25 years that they should make x for this Buick motor or y for that Buick motor or do things this way or do things that way. it's so easy to spend money when it's somebody else's money you're spending ( and by that, i mean it's easy for us to tell TA what to do but TA are the ones who have to figure out a way to do it without going broke ). i'm sure to them it gets a little tedious after a while. keep in mind, this is coming from a guy who is trying to put a grenade under their 350 head plans and get them to migrate the 350 over to join the other generations of SBB on a 'Rover' style head. :bglasses:
Yeah, we do what we can.:bla: Mike, can you slot the inner four pushrod holes sideways just a little on those Rover heads? If you can do that they could accommodate the 350's. That should be the only thing that would need changed. OK, back to BBB's Are you close enough to give us an actual weight for the new aluminum block? Jim
Well, this IS the internet, where most of what we use to communicate is missing, i.e., tone, facial expression, gestures, etc. I read it in a much lighter tone.
Maybe everyone should notice Michael's signature. He's one of those "whining" 350 guys himself!! Notice that he said they get them going "first". He's one of the good guys, for EVERYONE! Give him ( and his dad) a break. They are doing what no one else will do for all of us Buick guys. It isn't going to happen over night. And this IS the "new TA block thread" by the way.
yea, our crowd whines about products, mike jr most likelty shouldnt have said that...but it is true...shouldnt get worked up about it if it doesnt deal with you..and it doesnt.. he's referring to people that cry about not having a product they want and when its in theie face, they wont jump on it to buy one.. thats why we lack the parts we do it's always going to be harder for the other buick crowd to get parts due to the most popular...more parts available...cheaper...jump on band wagon.. look at the nail head guys, they're going to have more of a problem getting heads and other needed stuff more then the sbb crowd ps...i cant wait to get my 350 to whine 7k at the crowd
exactly! in the words of the great long shoreman now radio personality Artie Lange: WHAAAAAAAA:ball: Thanks TA, looking forward to the new BBB!
