Sounds good in theory Brian but it seems like the more I push the more they push back or just that there is not much there between their ears.
I did know a guy in college that had a nice 63 Vette with a model number issue....came up as a Corvair but everything else correct. He admitted that it was hot....didn't have it long.
In my case the numbers are just scrambled....don't designate any car model. Likely a typo but maybe car was stolen many years ago and they fudged the model number so it wouldn't correlate to what was in a stolen car database if there is/was such a thing.

    4989 vs 4948

Who knows how they think? I think they just like to bust balls....

The one lady said a typo would be 4984....I said that would be dyslexia.....she looked at me like I was from Mars.

Yeah....I had to bend down to get my ear by the plexiglass gap to hear her mumbling thru her mask....looked annoyed when I asked to repeat her nonsense.

Progress....I think....Precious (no lie) called from MVA and said they corrected the VIN in the system. All I need to do is bring all the paperwork in tomorrow and they will issue corrected title. Halleluiah, praise the lord....I may be moving the mountain.
Said 6 weeks to get title in the mail but if I pay $15.50, I can get it in 2 days....
Going in....tomorrow....buy it ain't over until the fat lady or ladies sing!!

Yeh, he's gonna go in there and they'll be like "Oh Didn't someone tell you that you were supposed to bring the entire dash with the original vin tag in for clarification sir" :D:p.

We did have a governor here in MD (where Bruce is as well) many years ago that must've made it one of his pet peeves clean up the mess at DMV and some of that revamped culture still lingers today. I remember receiving a return call once from DMV about 15-20 years ago and being shocked.

They screwed up one of my titles a few years ago (obviously their mistake). Fortunately I realized it within a few months but only because I was selling the car and for some reason checked it. I had a copy of the old title but didn't even need that as DMV must've had a scanned copy on file. The lady on the phone said to bring the incorrect title along with a letter explaining the situation & they'd issue a corrected one. I took the old title in and actually walked out with a corrected new title & didn't even need the letter of explanation. I was a bit taken aback when the clerk came back with my new title as I figured it would at least take the normal time frame to get one in the mail which is usually 1-2 weeks whereas before the revamping I remember it being much longer. When I said something to the guy about being surprised he said "well you gave me a title, I have to give you one back." Wow.

The DMV here in Washington state is AWESOME. I grew up in NY and moved to Massachusetts.

By comparison, they are super friendly, and very efficient. Interestingly they are not a government agency.

They are independent companies licensed by the state. My usual outlet is attached to a large car dealer (Bill Pierre Ford/Chevy/etc)

Basically the same woman has been there when I go in for the last 30 years! Quite a difference from the mess back east.

PS The Post Office people here are even nice.

We have tag & title services here that are much easier to deal with than going to DMV (even more so the case in PA where it's the norm to use them) and you pay for their services (They're basically taking the paperwork to DMV in bulk) but we still have the option of going in and doing everything ourselves. Is that not the case in WA? You cannot go into a state run facility to take care if these things? These private companies must somehow interact with an official government agency wrt issuing titles, tags, etc. Interesting model nevertheless and makes a good case for privatization of many functions typically handled by government agencies.

Yeah, Dan...that's where I started...local tag and title, but they said they couldn't handle a correction.
Hopefully this ordeal will be all over today but ya never know. I'm going back to the location that rejected it. Apparently they have notes in the case file that should let them now resolve it.

I'm tempted to try to get my Dad's car put in my name again (he passed 7 yrs ago)
Last time I tried they said a CERTIFIED copy wasn't good enough for the Certificate of Appointment of the Executor of his will. They want an ORIGINAL copy.
Seemed ridiculous and maybe another person would accept it.

I would suspect most if not all of the tag/title services wouldn't want to get into that. They need the easy stuff to make $.

May the force be with you! Let us know what happens. Good luck.

Maybe if I cook up some bacon and my clothes are infused with it they will be more receptive to helping me.
    I think I am losing it.......:confused::D

Good idea! Instead of a envelope full of cash have it stuffed with bacon. Then you inconspicuously slide it over to the clerk and say "this should take care of any discrepancies" and give her the wink and smile just to seal the deal:p:D

    HaHa...
Getting closer....they took all my paperwork away to keep and I paid the $15.50 for 2 day express shipping of the new title. She wanted to also charge me $40 for the new title but I said HQ said I wouldn't have to. I said you can call her here is her card. Didn't call just waived it.
BUT not done yet 1-2 days for it to go thru national title database. Only then can they actually issue and you won't have to put up with me complainin here.....:D:p

On that vehicle I could walk in with a bill of sale from you with the correct info on it and walk out with a registered car and title application sent in. Title sent to me in 2 to 3 weeks.
    Good luck with it.
Going behind my house to register my new gooseneck trailer tomorrow. :D

Can you do that for my '70 GS 350 from New York w/no title (NY doesn't issue them for cars that old) & w/o the car present? I'd rather pay you for your time/trouble than some service in VT.
