T-350, not STOCK. But with a few minor upgrades, especially HD intermediate sprag. Have one I raced with my 455. NEVER a problem... I think most people fail to understand how "snotty tough" T-400's little bro really is! Or how STRONG the aftermarket support is for BEEFING up the T-350! There are SEVERAL of these trannys running some VERY QUICK TIMES! As BAD as I'd love to have a "modern" 4-speed AOD, T-350 OR T-400 really are the ONLY two options strong enough!! Now the converter, THAT'S where you need to spend some money! Make SURE you get EXACTLY the converter your car requires! DON'T CHEAP OUT on this! :Smarty: ASK FOR HELP, from whomever reputable company YOU trust!
We run a T-350 in our Apollo. We get ours done by Frank Lupo of Dynamic Trans and Convertors in Maryland. He'll work with ya a get you what you need! We make about 390 HP with our stock lift 350...
Hmmm... My dyno program predicted 544HP and 495lb ft with Jims Combo... Same heads, same intake, 8.5:1, 272*, 500" hydraulic cam, two Holset Hx35s turbos, 1000cfm DP... 10# boost and no IC... 593HP (at 6300RPM) and 616lb ft (at 3800rpm) ! Crank it up a bit...16#... 724HP and 752lb ft Didn't someone ask about turbos?
thats what I fear about this combo. Jim's defination and mine about street. to me a 3500 stall isn't really a street converter. just has me wondering how these work in cruzers vs a 455 with the same hp as a cruzer. it has me a little leary. oh and trust me I'd love to put a manual 4-6 speed in my convertible (man do i miss the 5 speed) but that is a lot of part hunting. who was trying to put a mazda/ford explorer 5 speed behind a 350?? nate
That's AWESOME!! :TU: :TU: :beer :beer Jim, just curious if you know what kind of FLOW #'s the 455 head would have to flow to be capable of THAT HP# (711)???
I believe Greg was putting a Supra R154 5 speed behind a Buick 350". Would like to hear some updates on that one.
I had mentioned a 3000 to 3500 stall converter if using a t-350 trans. I f Rob was not going to use a 4 speed, I would have put him into a s-p 400 trans. I also do not feel a 3500 stall converter is a great street set-up. Really, this is not some crazy high strung high rpm race motor. Now if you are the kind of guy looking for a dead smooth idle at 600 rpm, then this is not the set-up for you. If you are ok with a 900 rpm idle with a lope, then this thing is just the ticket. Hey greensbuickfarm, I was the one who asked about a similar setup but with 8.5-1 or 8-1 CR and turbo/s. Thanks for the insight. It will be a while until I begin my path to righteousness with the 350, I'm currently stationed in Germany, and I don't believe the Corps is going to let me go anytime soon. Hopefully with the interest that this engine has created there will be more parts to play with when it comes my turn, if not so be it, either way I've pretty much chosen to push the envelope on pump-gas 350 when my time comes, hopefully I will have more than just this engine to go against, *hint hint* to all the others out there, you all know you what to get rid of that 455 and come to the lighter side!! At first the cost that this will seem to take on scared the sh** out of me, but then I started to think, hey I have 3 years to save up for this, so now it doesn't scare me as much.... ok yeah it still does. Anyways until I can just look on as Jim build some great monsters.
I use Virtual Dyno by Gem miller. Don't know if its available anymore...he's kind of dropped out of sight. Guy happens to be a car nut and a programmer. While it isn't that flashy, and doesn't ask for a million different parameters, it is EXTREMELY accurate. To wit: Bryan Sharer's Montzilla--calculated 9.84 best time, he eventually ran 9.86 with that combo. 1224HP twin turbo BBC-- made 1226 HP on the dyno... Kazama-- as for turboing the 350...jyturbo, man. Guys on there with 5.0s, junkyard turbos and holley DPs running 10s and 11s on street tires and pump gas. I've got the parts collected, now I just need the time... Jason
how much more testing will be done with that trick SBC intake??? I wonder what it would do for a mostly stock 350 thats tuned well with basic mods.
Jim Burek is heading toward the GS Nationals via a few detours so you may not hear back from him for a little while.
Michael, I don't really know. I was at the end of my MOS school and we were all receiving our MCCs and I was called up by my GySgt and asked if I wanted to go to Germany, I asked did we have Marines in Germany, he then replied, "I didn't ask you for a conversation, do you want to go to Germany or not", of course came the quick reply "Yes Gunny" and I sat down. There is a small headquarters unit here with an AOR of all of Africa and most of Europe. It's small but it's fun.
Well, my engine is being shipped to me today The testing is all done wth the single plane intake, but I'm sure he's not done studying it. Btw, the intake is made for our beloved Buick 350 that was a homemade kit around 20 years ago. As far as the single plane working on a complete stock 350, it wouldn't really benefit from it. Running that intake on a stock engine is like throwing a high lift cam in a stock 350, you'll need all the parts to work together in order to benefit from it.
