Yes I am aware. I sold him a cam in b.g. for his build. I was just curious if this experimental one is the camshaft.
I don't remember numbers or anything. It was a spare I had for wall art.
I have an N.O.S. one with no markings on it too. Bringing it to b.g. for denny to verify it.

Yes Sir, I had no idea what it was either until Denny came and looked it over.

I’m curious does the NOS one you have, is it stamped on the end with any engineering numbers?

I remember that. And know who he is. Good guy. Sold him an authentic correct 4781-1 carb for his Stage2

We drop the compression to make it a little easier to drive on the street. It is a street car mostly will still need to run Sunoco 260 or equivalent or octane boost for the street to be safe. I was originally going back to the SPX intake manifold, but I decided to go to to the total. Stage 2 package with the correct intake and carburetor so I can run the factory air breather for the first time since I’ve owned the car.

You can run the highest octane gas and this octane booster on the street but if you’re going to race it at the track. I would just go with race fuel, even though it’s expensive good insurance.

Thanks for that. Wonder if I was thinking a different combination for one of his other race programs? Do you have others of his builds?

The N.O.S. cam has no numbers. I'm curious to see what Denny finds on it.
Glad the cam I sold you completed your package. Literally no idea it was experimental. Should have gotten more money for it. Lmfao..
I bought that from Rick Martinez to just have for wall art since I had this other collection. He bought it way back in the day from the dealer I believe. I will ask him and post up his story of it.

Here is where the camshaft came from. So weird it's an experimental.

It was around 1980 when I bought new Fenders and inner wells and door skins from a Buick Dealership in Englewood, NJ Stilman & Hoag (spelling is off)
I knew a bartender at a local hang out who also worked in their parts department. He told
Me to come down when he was at work at the dealership parts dept. He did me a solid and spent time looking up and special ordering the parts. Like the sheet metal the cam was ordered legit thru that Dealership. I no longer have the receipt or the box the cam came in which would have added to the history.
I believe I paid like around $240 for what was listed as the "Stage 2 Package". He had no clue what was in it or if still available but he tried for me had to be ordered. I knew what should go with it back then, he said there was no breakdown of the Stage 2 Package. So when it came in it was only the cam, he said there might have been other parts but this was the only thing left that came in. A bit disappointed and the cost (being 1980) but I decided, WTF I'll take it. I ran it in my car for maybe 2 years then took it out for bigger cams. (Actually the NE Chapter track meet around 1981 at Island Dragway I had that cam in the engine.) Afterwords I wrapped it up in the same brown wax type paper and save it over the years.

Thanks very much for the history on it, How did it sound and how did it run?

Since I was 3 years old I don't remember what it sounded like lmao. But Rick obviously took it out because it wasn't enough for his combo at the time.

I do have a NHRA legal cam that I ran from south side machine. With the cam card at my store. Super crazy duration with the legal 490, 490 lift.
Looks like a roller cam but it’s a flat tappet hydraulicI’ll take a pic when I’m back there.

[IMG] Hey guys I'm back on here.

Went back reading posts, I am the guy who bought that Stage 2 cam back around 1980 from a Buick dealership in Englewood NJ I was 22 back then. John Jr posted up what I told him. That cam also had also 2 small groves not one, behind the cam gear

Its been a while, some of you long standing guys remember me. Well lolol "I'm Not Dead" . :) Still have my 1973 Centurion 455 Convert. My '70 GS has since been sold and in the care of Willie Wager being transformed into a 7-8 second beast. Thanks to a couple of great Buick friends like Willie, John Csordas Sr & Jr, Jim Ramsey, Chilenski, Greg Gessler (RIP Brother) Mark DeConti , and my greatest known and loved ball buster Doug Hecker  I'm still around now as a spectator. Anyway to the point. I did mention to Jr how life sometimes throws us some crazy curve balls. I am so, so, so happy that Stage 2 cam found a proper owner to continue on the Buick history over the decades !! I knew it was a Stage 2 cam when I had it. Even tried to sell it years back, no takers, so I squirreled it away safely until decades later John Jr was running the Nats and looking for donations, sponsors ,etc. So with John Sr, Nancy and Jr being long time great friends I figured to give it to Jr along with some other GS stuff. Great friend are always great friends for life, the Csordas family is and will always be #1 in my book!

Lets see around 1980/81 the NE Chapter had its first or second track outing at Island Dragway, NJ. My same GS455 which I owned for 42 years was then blue. I called it "Block Away Blue" it was my first and last time I attempted to paint a car, hence the wording it looked good a "Block Away" .lolol I rebuilt the engine with non Stage 1 heads, regular compression and installed the Stage 2 cam that I bought in 1980. I was a little bit lumpy enough to hear it wasn't moms grocery car engine. I believe was in the low 14.2's, mind you the car was at full weight and 2.91 non posi rear stock trans. It was fun on the street and seemed to have a strong mid range pull. Keep in mind that's 1981 a race cam inside a stock motor! I was happy until I saw guys like Mike Persarchick (65 GS) and Russ Rusinko (70 Stage 1) blasting down the quarter....I wanted that! So soon after out came the motor, and of course the Stage 2 cam was wrapped up (I wish I save the box) and shelved for decades. Until now!! Like I said I am so happy you have it!!! Best of luck with your project!!!! Hope to see most of you at the Nats, I've been away too long.

Thanks for sharing and believe me I was very excited that John contacted me and said he had one he could let go of. Stay around and check back from time to time to see how this unfolds. I’ll post the numbers on lift and such as soon as Mike T. Let’s me know.

they also were the first ones to develop the no-hop bars that changes the pinion angle in A body cars by way of the upper control arm. …maybe that is what rings a bell with you?
