http://briefcase.yahoo.com/david.atkinson@sbcglobal.net I hope this picture works. This is the new power plant for "LEAVER". It's a 430 bored to 4.250 with JE's lowered top ring for nitrous. Heads flowed 330/248. Girdle pan worked over by Mike Philips. He also ground a copy of the engine master cam profile. SPX and lots of other goodies.
It worked for me - looks light with all that aluminum hanging there. With all that fancy hardware, is that a stock flexplate back there?
It's new but not SFI. The CAT version cost the same money as this one. Mike confirmed the fit and balance of the CAT SFI after this one was purchased. It's only 631hp, hopefully the flexplate holds up.
Think you gotta be a yahoo member to see his folder, even if its set up for public view. I am cookied and it knew who I was. Thanks 350X :TU: Thanks Adam, Not as nice as your car but see's a head turner. The SPX looks so much better then my Domi SP1. Just what I need is to spend more money on intakes! Can't wait to see the chevy guys faces when my sister pulls up with this beast! :bglasses:
Hey John, Some 430 blocks can be bored to 4.3125". Late 68' and 69' blocks have the 455 water jackets. This does not mean that every late 430 is safe at 455 cui. We had this one sonic tested for thickness before boring and we only took it to 442 cui. Its at a chevy 454 bore size right now which .062 over for a 430. The sonic check shows that we could go 455 but not any more. We wanted thick cylander walls on this motor when original built because it was going to be sprayed. Chevy ring package on custom JE flat tops with 7cc valve relief. Reshaped chambers make the compression 10.82:1. Good enough for pump gas with these heads and the large solid camshaft. th400 with a 2.78 first gear and 3.73s in the 12bolt. Hence the name "LEAVER". Some you guys my remember this car beat the KB car in the early 90's.
Hi David What is the story on that two-piece oil pan -- or is it three pieces? Who makes it? Do they have a website? What was the price? Absolutely stunning -- as is the entire engine. It is my assumption that it was necessary to clear the block girdle. It looks stout enough to add some stability to the block by itself. Thanx in advance Craig
Craig, The oil pan is made by POSTON. It is a 2 piece girdled oil pan. Its been proven at a little over 700hp. It ran about $550. with some minor modifications. :spank: That hurt. So no need for a block girdle  Jeff
DAVE , beautiful engine theres nothing like a fresh motor to make you want to spend more money on it .lolheres a pic of my 455 that i just built this last summer .mike
David, If I could just make mine run like yours, I'd have something! I'm working on it, have the parts, just not the time to make it happen.
The girdled pan from Poston is a nice piece when worked over. Mike (AM&P) has found that several mods are needed to fix the problems with this pan. He changes all the preload hardware and remachines the front cover mating surface. Then he reworks the oil pickup and oil control. When mounting the pan the preload studs should demple the cap stud then backed off and retorqued to spec.. Theres no way he makes any money selling a pan like this. He will do it if the rest of the parts come from him. One of the GSE cars with a 9.9x pass is running this kind of pan and girdle. They can work great. :3gears:
