And those are shared across each GM line and most of those platforms are modified but the same platform, I know the Trax and Trailblazer share the same platform just extended for the Trailblazer, the Blazer shares Traverse platform only shortened, so you expect them to have an entire host of gas platforms and then to also have an entire host of electric platforms? Or should I assume you think they should only have a couple Electrics? In our era there was A, B, C, and E platforms(modified for Eldo & Toro) and also the Vette platform plus pickup platforms. Let's see in our era there were 4 door sedans, 4 door hardtops, 2 door sedans, 2 door hardtops, convertibles, station wagons and how many different models and interior choices in each plus how many powertrains? That's what eventually sucked down the resources and prophets, well that and the union workers. That's what really killed the US industry and sent business elsewhere

Some lines may well be better suited to IC, some better to BE.
Subcompacts & compacts, in order to keep the MSRP down, are better off as IC, to get the lower budgeted into new vehicles. As demand slowly declines for gas, prices shown follow, further helping entry-level buyers.
A lot of urban areas have no feasible charging at home (parking garages, on-street parking, etc)
I also believe pickups are better suited to IC, but I would not be against having a BE variant, since both there would be BOF & cheaper to pair there than a unibody platform IC vehicle.

To date, BE's on the market and near-future planned, are all well above the median new vehicle ATP. How's it help younger, 'poorer' buyers to have the vast bulk of BEs priced at $50 grand and higher?

But yet the Prius (I know it's not fully electric) has sold in huge numbers for over a decade and many of those have gone to younger buyers, the younger buyers are the ones that are most into buying electrics. They certainly do need to have some entry level ones available to snag the young buyers that in the future will be the ones buying GMC Hummers

Average Tesla buyer age is 54 (Model 3 by itself is 46). Naturally, a lot of that is price (Model 3 averages right around $50K, last I saw).

I believe Tesla's primary (and only very recent) profits are largely from selling ZEV credits. Musk said at the unveiling of the 3 it was going to start at $35K, but a secret 'off-menu' $35K variant only lasted about 6 months, and that was in 2020. It's a very pertinent issue as to whether OEMs car provide a variation in BE vehicles that strikes the balance of - not being overpriced AND selling at a profit. Some analyst stated the Chevy Bolt may lose $7K each... and that's commonly a $43K sticker.

Will BE vehicle construction costs drop? Probably. But will they fall fast & far enough to maintain a profit margin?

Well all I got to say when those electric cars come out how are they going to figure out how much road tax you need to pay.

I bet all the people driving from the country to the city will pay a boatload since that is how you will pay by mileage.
This will be tacked on when you buy your plates Just think you could pay 1000$ a year just to drive your car on the rd Try and come up with that kind of money every year within a month.

A ‘road tax’ or fuel tax probably won’t fly; it would hurt too many low income workers and gig drivers. I’d bet on a tax based upon car value being more likely so that the driving poor pay little if any extra for their old stuff and the ‘wealthy’ pay more ‘because they can afford it’.

it will completely eliminate our fossil fuel dependency...........................except planes, boats, trucks, equipment, electricity production, manufacturing........seriously the ev is the biggest scam going rn by the government and car producers. we have several alternatives such as alternative fuels, compressed air, steam, and hydrogen that would be less dependant on the power grid. most of them are free or could be made at home however. one of those follow the money things. i think it will fail hard as well in the future but not before certain people have sucked the lifeblood out of regular people scared that they are not going to be able to use there current car anymore.
