Too much is just enough
BEST UPDATE EVER! the car can burn rubber! I knew my response was better and my burnouts improved but it's been 30 to 40 degrees every time I've driven it. And wasn't confident in my accelerator pump settings until recently. Today it was 55 degrees. I was dying to drive my car while it was nice. I did multiple burnouts around 100 feet long today. No break stand needed. I filmed the one where I start in drive and the tranny shifted at 4000 rpm and ruined it but the burn out i did while manually shifting was SWEET I spun the tires to 6000 shifted to 2nd and kept going and yes I actually saw tire SMOKE. LOL pretty stoked. I still want the stall converter and improved transmission but I am happy with this progress.
This ought to be interesting, The carb formula says a 612 cfm carb is good for a 350 @ 5500 rpm but we all know from the past that if you put a bigger carb on a 350 it went faster. But That was with a DP intake, now we have a straight shot intake and seems to like a smaller carb on this particular engine and combo.
I personally think it is the low gearing and not much stall is letting the 600 dbl pumper shine in this situation, small venturies not big on the secondary the transition is quick.
If you really think about it the carb is a large Q-jet The Q-jet bogs with this intake unless you have a lot of gear. With this 600 dbl pumper the bores are now larger but we have a shot in front and rear with Small venturies
As Gary Farmer used to say you use a 2 bbl which is probably a 450 -500 cfm the response is very quick out of the hole

The old plentiful Skylark 2BBL parts cars (or nicer) we used to buy back in the 80's/90 we're always quick off the line even w/2.56/2.73 rears & stock TH350 & 350's that had never been apart & not even giving them a tune-up - Just fresh gas & file the points, lol.
I have a 670 Street Avenger that I bought cheap and a brand new 50cc pump. I'm going to play around with that this spring. Tuning is fun now that I can I actually see and feel the results. That quickfuel ss750 was something else. Discouraging at times for sure.

My buddy tried a brand new avenger on a ZZ4 crate in a 59 vette and did not like it.

I love how the car drives now so anything further will just be experimenting. Did you see my video and post from 2 days ago? The car is running better than ever. Finally had a real nice day to take a cruise. Results were great.
Yes, looks better. Gear & convertor will wake it up. Depending on ratio, you may need the o.d. too.
The last posting I did on my thread about " First track testing with the alum. 350 heads" was with the Holley 750 DP which is the fastest time to date. Next year after I get the Brawler dialed in for the street I'll make a few passes to compare.
They're racing today the 26th at a track 3hrs east of me. Gonna be in the 70s.

Your entire first post showed up as a quote and I just now read it. Another interesting fact is that nascar only used 830 cfm carbs. Those motors were 800 hp and 8000 rpm I believe
I read all that about how big a carb to put on it was in my old Holley book which had a 350 going 5500 will only need a 600 carb. you know that this is a totally stock engine. When Ken Bell did their tests with the 350 they eventually had a 950 carb on there and went faster.
That 600 carb will not cut it once you put some gears in and get that engine past 6 grand as that SP3 is going to want to go there. That 600 will give up the ship after 6 grand, now if you want to blow something in it or suck it thru that is a different story.
Nascar is totally different engine plus it is a Chevy you listen to those on the dyno and you really do not hear the motor groan as much as a big block or any engine that does not go much past 65-7 grand
It just keeps revving to its 9 grand redline probably the reason they only need a 830 carb

950 CFM is just about right
Interesting to look at the mods done to those Braswell 830's. Top hole for linkage, look like 50cc pumps, holes in all throttle blades, etc.
I have a pretty mild motor though. You guys are running more compression, bigger cams, bored out engines etc. These engines draw off of all 4 barrels of the carb with the open plenum intake. With the Ken bell testing I'm assuming he was using a dual plane, which essentially cuts the carb in half. I think with any dual plane a bigger carb is needed. David vizard covers this extensively in his book. I'm really interested in following partsrparts and his swap to the 650 cfm brawler. I think he'll be happy. With the smaller carb My low end improved greatly and I lost nothing on my zero to 100 time.
Reidk,.. Hi, click the link above... Here's a Buick 350 combo I did for my son back in 2013/2014 with a lot of off the shelf, t/a parts and used parts and good old fashion head work and tuning..
One of my most expensive parts was the $185 dollar custom pushrods ... pay attention to fuel delivery, holley black pump with 1/2 " fuel line and 750 DP holley well tuned with bigger squirters, helps take the off idle stumble out of cruising or just flat pedaling it... This car ran very well, most people thought it was a 455 buick motor,... the 310 cam sounded incredible in this little motor...
