    Lets be reasonable!

Lets get back to the article and stop bench racing! The auther is saying he can't beleive what people are paying for cars that he did not like when they were introduced. The fact is that somthing is worth what someone will pay for it, no more, no less. Mopars are throught the roof because of the limited availability and general muscle mystic. I have owned ALL of the collectable mopars, and am not saying this for my vanity. The fact is that from a performance standpoint no manufacturer put out as many pure muscle oriented cars as chrysler. The fact is that Chrysler dominated the 1/4 mile with the max wedge and hemis. In my opinion it is also fact that most of these cars were horrible to drive on a regular basis, the auther is 100% correct in his bashing of how the stock hemi's perform. Mopar guys know that stock for stock, the 440-6 69 1/2 M codes were the best running showroom stock cars. The hemis were over carburated and lacked enough stock ignition to overcome it. Now if you are going to modify from showrrom stock and use factory castings, the hemi is, has been, and will be the King of this competition. As for me, knowing what I know now, if I went back to 1970 to buy a car that was fast and could not resell at some point in the future............Hello, stage 1 GSX with A/C. :Smarty:

P.S. I am lucky that I was pushed out of My beloved mopars by what I considered to be over inflated prices ripe for a price correction, or I would not have discovered Buick. My fear now is that the same thing is going to happen to Buick if enough guys find out how fabulous they really are.

Bill,i dont know where you got your info from but Mopars with their 440 engines were getting spanked by L78 396 chevelles in the 60`s so i dont know how you figure they were king of the 1/4 mile, and Hemi`s only run if you slap a blower on them other than that they`re duds.

    Thanks

    ???????

    George,

I don't want to ignite some kind of argument, but what I put in my post was that " max wedges and hemis" dominated the 1/4 mile. I feel this is a true statement. :)

If the HEMI combustion chamber was so great why doesn't the new prostock hemi's chamber even remotely resemble a hemi.If any thing it is a boss 429 ford chamber nothing hemi about it.Plain and simple unless you rev the hell out of it or put a blower on it they don't run that great.
My ex boss restored mopars the interiors are junk period.Even the newer mopars are some dead a@@ junk.

    ?????????????

    Kevin,

The new mopars are currently the best selling cars in the country, the 300c hemi is single handedly responsible for the sales surge that Chyrsler has seen this year. I am very saddened by the recent ills at GM , and even more so by the talk of dropping the Buick Brand. I am not not bashing our Buick muscle cars, I strongly feel that they ARE the BEST. I am just trying to relate my ownership experience and inject a little balance into this thread. Since I don't seem to be doing it, I am going to the garage to work on my 767hp,
9 second, hemi killing, BUICK! :spank:

I didn't say the newest I said newer.Caravans junk neons junk, interepids junk.Yes they are nice new but give them 3 years and they start falling apart.Look at the durango's and dakota's The front ends literally fall out of them some as soon as 40k miles now tell me thats a good built vehicle (saftey recall now).99% of mopar AC jobs that come into my shop need evaporators I did a 03 caravan last week :Do No:.I love pulling the dash out of a pretty new car.I have no experience with the new 300 but I hope it's better than everything else.
Now the new GM's are junk as are the ford's I think we are getting killed by Honda which is IMO the best car built right now I AM NOT PROUD TO SAY THAT BUT IT'S THE TRUTH I love american cars but we are falling behind.

The new american cars are junk, that's why toyota is heading for 1st place in the car market. Last week my parents just traded their '99 grand am on a new toyota corolla. The car only had 68,000 miles and had the intake gaskets, power steering pump, misc. seals, and rack & pinion replaced. It's always one thing after another. They got tired of the crap GM is putting out and they've been loyal american car company owners ever since they were able to drive. Their '03 town and country has a recall everyweek and they still can't fix the p.o.s. right. I'm seriously considering buying a japanese car the next time I need to replace my s-10. Heck, my parents new toyota has 80% american made parts in it. That's probably alot more than what gm, ford, or chrysler puts in their's.

    Frustration

    Rob,

I am sorry to hear about the bad experiences your family has had with their cars. The U.S. automakers have made alot of improvement in their quality, however, not enough for you and not enough to best Toyota in particular. I am in the Auto industry here in Detroit and my future depends on you ,and people like you, buying American made cars. Specifically Gm, Ford, and to a lesser extent Chyrsler. You see, the American made parts you speak of being put on Toyotas and Hondas are not really American made parts. They are parts assembled in America with Jap parts or made by Jap owned companies or joint ventures. THe Japanesse will not permit significant content to be placed on their cars outside of their Kiritsu. These kiritsus consist of their banks, subsidiaries, and generally companies loyal to them from long standing relationships in Japan. I can't blame them for operating this way, especially when we allow them to do it. It is a closed and protectionist system that we face around the globe. As for Gm and Ford, they feel they are in a fight for their survival and are perfectly happy to see their north american supply base be a casualty of their needs. The North American auto makers are sending every part they can to low cost countries like China and India. All loyalty is gone. So it really does'nt matter who you buy your car from, except to poor bastards like me who are caught in the middle of a disaster in the making. All I ask is that if you can, please try to find an American car that is of high enough quality to meet your needs, if you can't, be like the big three and spend your money with offshore companies who can save you a buck. It is a new world reality, one that I am not very happy about, but had better get on top of quickly.

I also just bought a new corolla. I never owned a forign car ever but I was just looking for a small car that I could tow behind a motorhome and went to a Toyota dealer and bought it. The unique thing about this car is that it is the first new car that Ive bought that is like every new car should be, I mean "everything" worked on it and there is no leaks, rattles,or anything that should go back to the dealer. It is like what a new car should be, a "new car" that works like a new car should. I wish I could say that about the 20 or so new american cars that I bought!!!! Jim

    hemi's

anyway, now that you have gotten away from the original subject. the reason chrysler called them HEMI's is because it is short for hemiroid. they knew they were going to be a pain in the ass!! oops, did i type that outloud? jerry :moonu:

Plain pure and simple none of these cars are worth what idiots are paying for them GM MOPAR OR FORD.Am I pissed a mopar is worth more than a buick HELL NO I can afford what I want in a buick and I get more for my $$$$.
Ok I pay 250000.00 plus for some hemi junk I'm sure not driving it what If something happens to it I can't find or afford parts to fix it.So if I can't drive why own it.I'll stick with my cheap ass buicks.

You guys crack me up. Not lookin to start a flame war here and yes I realize this is a Buick web site, But damn you guys see it in black and white don't ya. Not a single flaw with Buicks huh? No block flex in 455's? Turbo 6's blocks don't break in half either do they? SBC's are such a perfect design that you have to epoxy screen in the valley to catch the valve train parts when the scatter, My old granny wore a girtle but I've never seen one for a Mopar. Shall we talk about Pontiac cast cranks and rods? And before any of you guys start to flame me look at how long I have been a member here, Yes I have been here since the begining and before that I was at the old Buick board. Do a search and you'll see I have never said a cross word against Buicks. You can also do a search at MOPARTS.COM and see that I have defended Buicks over there from the bone head Mopar guys. None of these cars were perfect. Not Mopars, not Fords, not AMC and for sure not GM :Smarty:

I never said Buick`s were perfect and they`re not,i`m just saying that what that dude said in that article is 100% correct so whatever you tell me about Mopars isnt gonna change, the quality of the way they were built is JUNK period dude, they are nice cars to look at but thats about it,they had cheap shitty interiors, they ride like crap cause of the torsion bar suspenion, they`re unibody, the electrical design is junk,is there anything else you want me to add?lets face it dude GM`s were wayyyyy better built cars than Mopars.

    Thanks

So you judge a musclecar by the quality of the vinyl used in the seats? :Do No: I guess I understand your choices in cars now :Smarty: Ya know it's all good. I guess some people just need to call other guys machines junk to make themselves feel better.
