    '70 GSX almost survivor

Well, my '70 GSx is #14 built according to Wayne Roberts records, its had a somewhat repaint as the front fender stripe is really wrong, the rest of the car looks to be orginal, but it is a rusty Chicago car. My friends, Bob and Sharon Hannen have an fairly orginal GSX Stage 1, that is temporarily on display in the Sloan Museum, and won't get out of jail til after the GS Nationals, I think, but it has been to the GS Nats since '85 until '97 or so, never put in the show though! And is the GSX driving around on the Speedvision American Muscle Car show. Mine is the one with the rust and all going down the track, as Bob and Sharon's GSX has headers so, it's not Pure Stock, put looks good on the video!
Bob and Sharon's could be considered a Survivor as most of the paint is orginal, but the engine is sort of different, do to, you know whip on the corvette and other experiences! RV

Remember everybody, no matter what event you attend,it is how you participate, and this is what makes that event enjoyable. If we enjoy and share in each others company, then we have succeeded and our efforts have been worth it.If nobody showed up at an event, what fun would it be?Whatever it is,there aren't too many Buick meets around,so try to attend as many as you can. I look forward to seeing you all this year.

Hey Sam: Sorry, the car has to be mostly original paint. Roberta, if your GSX is mostly original paint, we can overlook the LF fender. It would be purely up to you if you felt comfortable displaying it with rust. Now, what we DON"T want is someone bringing an all-original car that they just pulled out of the junkyard!! We want decent survivors, and you all know what you have, and if it fits with the theme we are displaying these cars under, then they are welcome. I have a feeling that the 1st year will be sluggish, but if we get the word out now, then next years GSCA Nats ought bring out many more survivors, esp. since we have moved it to June for 2005. But, for this year, let's just see what is out there. Remember, they don't have to be Skylarks or GS cars, ANY original Buicks out there we would love to see!

    John:
I too think the survivor class would be cool. I don't mind even seeing somewhat rough survivors. Case it point my 67 Riv GS.
Orig. motor, no mods (timing chain only 155K), orig. trans, rear.... complete with dents and some rust. But it still runs mid 14s with 26 in slicks and a good tune on the carb and dist.

Posed this idea to Rich Lentinello of Hemmings Muscle Machines and never got a response.

My GSX that I sold still had orig paint last year.....hope it still does cuz I like to see em like that. Piece of history....esp since it was raced for 8 yrs and over 2000 runs.
John, remember it at the NE meet at MIR (Budds creek) that John Guditis put together in the early 80s?

Bruce: The GSX sounds familiar to me but that meet was over 20 years ago!! As I mentioned to Roberta, if you would be comfortable showing your less than pristine survivor, that would be fine with me, as long as we aren't getting cars that really would have no business being there, and I think everyone pretty much knows if their car would fit the mold.....

Yup John....many moons ago. I remember it was REAL hot (90 +) and my wife was allowed in the tower as she was 7 or 8 mos pregnant and pushing one in a stroller. You were up in the tower also. It was about a year or so before Lasseter started the GSCA.

That's where I first saw that silver X that I later bought.

John, I think most of my GSX was painted, other than the roof and maybe the hood, and trunk lid, as the sides are definitely painted wrong, a better survivor is Bob and Sharon Hannen's from Owosso, MI, the car on the Speedvision TV show, going round and round at Mid-Michigan Motorplex, it has headers on it, but is otherwise original and is in the Sloan Museum on display til some time in May when it can get out of jail free! Bob's car is almost a survivor as alot of the paint is orginal, other than than a few spots in the quarters and the rear window area, the rest of the car is original paint! In the meantime Bob has been working on a '65 GS with a 455 to be his cruising Buick and maybe part time race car, Bob and Sharon have brought the GSX to BG for many years, '86 to '96 for sure, never put in the show, cause he didn't think it was nice enough, but I have disagreed with him, I'm not sure they can make it this year due to his health issues earlier this year, and Sharon's work issues but I will find out in the next couple of day's! and how long the GSX is in the Sloan Museum Jail, but will check it out and let you know. MeanBuicks Scaring the neighbors.

Collierville is a suburb of Memphis. The Mississippi state line is a stone's throw away & Nashville is 200 miles away. I wore that section of I-40 out last year. :3gears: Let's see; I went to Bowling Green for the Nats, to NJ on vacation, to Nashville for the Power Tour, to Indy for the US Nats and back to Indy again last month for the PRI trade show. :)

Hey Roberta: I have heard of Bob and Sharon's GSX but never saw it even though when I lived in Mi. they were 1/2 hour away! Sounds like the type car I'd like to see in the display....let me know! Thanks!

    Hey John!!

I've been talking to my Buick freinds up here in PA and it looks like I'll be going loner to BG. That's OK, I'll just have to make some friends at BG. My question for you is: since I probably won't be racing (hence just sold my car) I'll be driving my 87 Regal Limited (2 barrel 231), can I enter it into the car show? I've read Richard in the GS-Xtra pushing GSCA members to enter their cars in the car show and not parking them in the parking lot, but I believe that he is making reference to TR's and GS's. :Do No: What's your take? BTW: its a nice well-optioned car and factory paint.

    Dave,

My take on this is that your 87 Regal would be very welcome if I read these posts right. Matter of fact, wouldn't it be a survivor? Also, My plans for the GS nats aren't as solid as with the BPG nats. The week of the BPG nats I'm on vacation. The week of the GS nats I am not. Hence I have no ahead of time plans for that event. I'm sure I'll be seeing you before that. Lets get the BB in one of them Regals soon.

Dave: You can put the car in the show, but it is too "new" to be in the survivor display. Gotta be at least 25 years old to qualify. Another 8 years and you are THERE!!
