Hey Guys and Gals! Glad to see all of the positive feedback for the GSCA Nats! It is my personal goal to make it better and better every year. I'd like to plan to attend the BPG Nats, too. All of us Buick people need to stick together, as a team we can and have done very welll showing all of the brand Xer's our taillights!

A good friend of mine in the Mopar circle has instigated a "survivor "class at many of the Mopar events with a large degree of success catering to all Mopars 25 years old and older with 80% original paint, powertrain, interior, etc.....and it seems to have gone over extremely well. The cars aren't judged, but there for all to enjoy under a tent and gives survivor's owners a chance to show off their cars. As you know, typically a survivor cannot compete against frame-off cars. These cars are critical for us to look at as we restore other examples, and unfortunately, they don't get their just dues..... any thoughts, ideas, etc? This class would be open to ALL Buicks if they fit the requirements. I think all of us Buick nuts would love to see things like this. An example I can think of is a friend of mine's 67 Electra with 300 original miles! There HAS to be quite a few interesting cars out there that would fit in here. In the thinking stages right now, do YOU know of anyone out there who has such a Buick? Could be very interesting!

Kyle this thread is for the GS Nationals in BG, KY, there's other threads on Norwalk and the BPG Nats in Salem, OH
I know it's confusing, but just to try to staighten things out, the BPG is sponsoring at test and tune at Norwalk from 9-4 on April 29 at Norwalk Raceway Park, on April 30 at Norwalk Raceway Park is the start of Buick RaceDay '04 where time trials will run all day, and 2 gambler's races will be held at 1pm, one for V8's and one for V6's and the Turbo Street Machine Race, in addition to those races, a Ladies Charity Race for $10 with goodie bags and proceeds to the American Cancer Society will be run, this race was scheduled for Friday in 2003 and due to the weather was moved to Sunday, where 20 ladies participated, and $200 was donated to the American Cancer Society from the racers and another $100 was donated from t-shirts sold with Real Women Race Buicks. Here Right now, it looks like the Ladies Charity Race will be on Friday, with a one shot time trial sign up Ladies Race on Sunday. More info will be available soon. RV

I like your SURVIVOR class idea. Lots of merit to this. I'll talk to Brad Conley, our Show Director, and see if we can't parallel something.

It may be "my loss" (along with MANY others from the Midwest who feel as I do about the "Nationals") for not attending in Bowling Green, but since the "birth" of the BPG, there IS only ONE "GS CLUB", and I will DEFINITELY be in Salem, Ohio!:bglasses:

I DID enjoy meeting a lot of GS owners in Columbus, Ohio (the ONE year the GS Nats were there), and at Bowling Green, Ky, the ONE (and LAST!!!) time I attended!

Most memorable: I was "admiring" a '70 GS Convertible (similar to mine, in appearance), and a couple of guys walked over, lifted the hood, and started "working" on it. I introduced myself, and explained that I was "excited" to be attending. I went on to say that I was hoping to meet some of the "famous" Buick guys, that I'd been reading about in the Hot Rod magazines, and I mentioned that Rob Chilenski, who had the Fastest Non Tubbed, Carbureted, '72 GS was someone who REALLY made an impression with me (as I also have a '72 GS, not like HIS, though:TU: )!

One of the guys who was working on the Convertible, LAUGHED, while wiping his hands off on a shop rag, shook my hand, and said, "I'M Rob Chilenski!" I had NO IDEA!

    That made my day!:bglasses:

I AM looking forward to Meeting/SEEING you guys (my FRIENDS from HERE), in SALEM!:bglasses:

I have been to every GS NAts since 1983 less one year to move into my new house (91) and like one other year Cindy's Mom paid to have us flown out to Utah for a family reunion...

It may be one of the best shows lasting this long, even with a few years of bad weather I still show up faithful to the buick buddies I have and will meet each year!!!

Sorry, Mike:TU: Didn't mean it that way. Not so much the "Nationals" as the (former) GSCA. I won't go any further!:TU:

Meeting the people, driving the cars, all in ONE place, you're right, there's NOTHING like it! That's the BEST thing about it!

BETTER things always come along :Brow: :

New places, New faces, the BPG Nationals this year are only the BEGINNING!:bglasses::TU: I hope there's going to be ENOUGH room for ALL of the Buicks that attend (besides just GS's and GN's)!:eek2:

Yes, I AM looking forward to it!

    Hoping?!?

I'm hoping to make it down for Saturday. I was planning leaving Wed. with the car. I then realized my two oldest daughters have their dance recital that weekend (1 performance on Fri night and 2 on Sat.). Thinking about leaving after the Fri. performance and driving straight through.... without the car:ball: :( :Do No: :ball: . Done it before, right Borland?

Hey there 1 Bad GS -- does your GSX have mostly original paint, too? That seems to be the biggest draw in the Chrysler club's survivor series. In fact, Mel, the director and personal friend, uses a paint gauge to verify. Chrysler cars paint was approx 4 millimeters thick and down to around 3.1 on the bottom of the car. He said he has seen cars that the owners swore were all original that has 12 mills here on one panel, 3 on others, etc.....boy, I can see we may be opening a can of worms here! Still, I think overall that it will be a treat to see truly original cars, and I'd like to implement such a display if there is enough interest.

I can't wait to go back to BG! I loved it. I don't care what anyone says about it getting smaller every year, its on the top of my list. I love to think about Kentucky in spring, especially now when I'm snowed in! I probably won't get to race again this year, but its not so bad being a spectator. I love photography and Beach Bend has so many awesome photo angles. I filled seven roles of film last year and I wish I would have taken more. Its just a good time to be alive!!

BTW: Dan, where are you staying? I haven't made any reservations yet.

    survivor class

    John
I think its a wonderful concept ,the survivor class.I've tried for years to have someone consider it.As you know I still have my all original 69 GS 400 4 speed with nary 17,000 miles on it.You know the storied history. But I stopped showing it some 10 years ago because as you said a survivor can't compete against a frame off.I'm not taking anything away from frame offs, those people that go thru the effort and expense are well deserved of any awards, but its just fact, and therein is why many originals are not seen at the events anymore.
Many people have come over to check out "blue" to see the way the factory did it,why not provide the forum first hand at some of the events.Good luck with your quest,I know you have some survivors yourself.
