    Very nice job Greg.
It's nice to have that fat new car wheel feel isn't it....
Never did like the original skinnys....

I hope so. Mostly, I'm getting faster, especially around the spokes with the fake stitches.

For anyone interested in the furthering education of steering wheel wRapper knucklebusted, a client sent me a wheel but wanted something a little less bulky. I've just received a padding that is half as thick. Instead of 1/8" it is 1/16" thick.

You can see in the pics it is thinner and will obviously be a firmer feeling wheel. I suspect I'll have to order a smaller sized leather steering wheel cover but I'll update once I've measured and tested a normal cover I have on hand.

    Pictures for your enjoyment.

I have wrapped the thinner padding around the wheel but the standard Wheelskins AXX is going to be too big. It overlaps the leather so I'm going to have to try the AX cover to get a better fit. For the best looking fit, the ends need to have a small gap of no more than 1/16" so the lace will pull it snug.

Picture with just padding and second one is overlapped cover.

Got the minimal padding wheel wrapped last night. It went pretty well and here's some pictures along with comparisons with measurements.

    Pictures for your viewing pleasure.

A sunny outside picture of well worn standard wheel with the minimal padding wheel on top.

The regular padding is on top/behind, the lighter padding is bottom/front.
Left to right: Left - Standard Padding, Middle - Minimal Padding, Right - Standard Wheel
    [IMG]
Standard wheel measures 2 11/16 inches at the thick of the nub.
Minimal padded wheel (1/16th inch padding) measures 3 1/2 inches at the nubs.
Normal padding (1/8th inch) measures about 3 7/8 inches at the nubs.

Yep, I would have thought these old sticky wheels would be available all over the place by now. Perhaps, I've had the Barrett-Jackson effect on old sticky wheels and everyone now thinks they have a $300 wheel. LOL

Anyone have an accurate measurement of the actual GSX wheels? I've never handled one but have seen them plenty of times.

I did another fat and another skinny padding. Skinny on left, fat on right. Subtle but more noticeable in person than it appears in pictures.

After having stripped a wheel to the metal hoop and recovered it, I think I can successfully strip off the plastic ring and make a nice wheel if anyone has a broken one they want to get rid of.

I took this wheel down to bare metal before I wrapped it to become that blue wheel above in post 174.

Finished recovering a 61 Biscayne (not sure if it is the original or not) 16" wheel without padding in charcoal with charcoal thread for a local buddy.

Finished another one. This one started out as one much like the white silicone type wheel I had to completely rebuild but this one was in much better shape.
