The red looks good! I like the cross stitch better.

Where the holes a lot closer together? I've seen most of the baseball stitches also appear thicker thread as well.

A third wheel done. How's it look? Excuse the mess of threads on my lacing stand.

    Looking good!

I'm debating what to do with mine...The wheel is slightly sticky and from reading the forum, it's hit or miss on what works or doesn't work for the stickiness. It's only slightly tacky so I'm worried about making it worst.

But after watching your thread here, it looks like there is hope that if I screw something up, I can wrap it...Or at least send it to you to wrap it :)

Getting the sticky off is hit or miss. I've cleaned mine a few times before I decided to do this. I used Goof Off, which is a lot like a heavy soap, to get it off and then washed it off. Usually, by the time they are sticky, all the grain is gone as well and you are left with a smooth rubber ring.

If you take your time and aren't afraid to unlace it and start over, you can get a pretty good finish. The spokes are the hardest part. I put fake stitches there to maintain the look.

Here's the box I've devised to ship them back in. Hopefully, it will keep the leather ring from rubbing anything excessively in shipment.

I think you nailed that one, Greg. I see you are sticking with the Wheelskins. You could sand the spokes (directionaly) a bit for more of a stock, brushed look if required.

Actually, that one has a bit of a polished finish. My other one was kind of dirty so I hit it with a little 1000 grit and some wheel polish. It looks factory but cleaner.

Oldskewl59's wheel is here and his cover should arrive sometime next week. We'll see how a fully red-stitched wheel turns out.

Note: Anyone that needs a box to ship a wheel, FedEx stores have a 17"x17"x7" box for $3.25. Perfect size and FedEx is usually the cheapest to ship a wheel.

That is also a WheelSkin. To date, I've done one Belinous and two WheelSkins. I have another Belinous a buddy is going to try in red stitching and the WheelSkin for Oldskewl59 also in red stitching.

I just received my wheel back from Greg (the one posted above that he finished on Friday).

He did a fantastic job and it was a very quick turnaround. The leather wrap is soft and the padding is a very nice touch. The overall thickness is perfect (it looks much fatter in the pictures than it is). It even smells good! I’m looking forward to installing it on my car and taking it out for a cruise. No more sticky wheel for me! Money well spent on a definite upgrade that will be enjoyed on each and every drive.

    Thanks Greg. Great job!

Oldskewl59's wheel is done. I was watching reruns of Star Trek: Voyager and the next thing it is after midnight and I'm trying to pull the thread snug for the final knot.

I'm really liking the red stitching. As an art piece, I love it. On my car, I might mount it up and see how it looks before I mail it out.

    Pictures for your perusal.

I think that is going to look great on the car! I like the wood wheel I have, but I think this will look better and it is original to the car. (as far as I know). No hurry, if you want to test it on your car.

It was a joke! This is the wheel in that 4x4 Corvette in another thread!

OK, I'm going to ship Oldskewl59's wheel out today. If he likes what he received, I'll be taking on other sport wheels for now. If that goes well, I'll branch out to whatever you are willing to take a chance on.

I measured the holes in the two different covers I have the inexpensive Belinous is .44 and the Wheelskins is .52. Much wider than yours, double or more. The camera angle makes it look off but it wasn't actually that bad.

I swear I'm tempted to punch twice as many holes in it and try the baseball stitch.

I guess with the time that will take, your commercial calculation will have to be adjusted. :)
Have you counted how many holes are punched to begin with? Are you going by eye, or are you going to build some sort of fixture when punching additional holes?

Yes, it would definitely take more time in setup and more time in lacing with twice as much thread but I would still like to see a nice baseball stitch.

They make hole punches that are multipronged like a tiny pitchfork. Other than that, I can set up a jig with two nails for existing holes and a centered new spot for the between hole.

Here's what I'm considering from Amazon to try out.
