Answers in order: Direct to intake Alt adjusting bracket bolts to the 1/2" head bolt Yes Leave all bolts loose until all bolts are started. Then tighten down. That is usually the only way I can get all the holes to line up.
As per the pictures in an earlier post , if I bolt the upper bracket directly to the intake the backer on the back of the compressor hits the top bracket…. coukd there be an issue the compressor base? There are pictures of it also in earlier posts…
This is the compressor bracket on the (350 )engine Does it look correct? The longer alternator bracket does not work as it overshoots the hole for the top bracket. - the top bracket is correct for a 1970 - the alternator bracket is correct for a 1970

Thank you for the bracket information per post 50 The bottom compressor /alternator base is correct. (1231871). The bracket from the water pump to the top bracket which the alternator adjusted to may be wrong per Bill- it should be 1385628. The bracket I purchased ( I found the number ) is 1235837 which shows for a 455 engine. I have a 350 - is it the same bracket for both? I could not find any part numbers on the brackets which bolt onto the compressor, though there are pictures in previous posts. please advise- much thanks,
