I installed all of the front sheet metal today...

I'm torn between continuing to post photos of the car, since it's supposed to be unveiled at MCACN. Since 2020 is moved to 2021, that means any public photos will have to wait until after the 2021 show.

What do you all think? Continue posting my normal photos as it gets finished, or just quit posting? I will continue to move on the path of completion as if I was getting it ready for the 2020 show...so it'll be complete well before next year's event.

    docgsx It's not a GTX

I think a good blog of the progress is in order however, hold on the pictures until after MCACN. Or, whatever the owner thinks is best.

we are certainly enjoying your work and progress no matter what happens!

Just post the damn pictures. :D

Seriously, though - it's not like we won't fawn all over it in person even after seeing the progression.

I'm with Brett, post the pictures so we can see your progress. The pics are a great teaser and seeing it in person would be awesome. But it is up to the owner as he is paying the bill

Well you asked, so here is my take:

Rather than ask here, I suggest that you first ask the owner if he still plans to do an official unveiling at MCACN. If so, then you should follow the spirit and intent of the MCACN unveilings and stop posting photos publicly. I'd say you are already getting really close to crossing the line now that the painted sheet metal is being hung back on the car. (It looks fantastic by the way!)

Now if you don't think the owner wants to wait 14 months for the public to see his car, then cancel the MCACN unveiling and post all the photos you want. Of course we all enjoy seeing them.

You might also consider sending Bob Ashton an email (bashton426@gmail.com) and ask him if it's okay to post photos of the car painted, buffed and nearly complete. I suspect you know what he will say, which is the completed car cannot be seen publicly.

If you do continue to post photos, Bob will probably pull the plug on the unveiling of the car at MCACN. It defeats the intent of the unveiling. He's pretty strict about this. When we asked about unveiling a car at MCACN years ago we were told no photos to be posted online of it anywhere near its completed state. Well by that point the customer had already posted photos of the car nearly complete on a Chevy forum similar to this one, and therefore made the car ineligible.

Regardless of how you plan to proceed with photos and the MCACN unveiling, keep up the good work saving these old Buicks.

MCACN is VERY STRICT on the unveilings......trust me I know.

I would proceed just as Gary has said.....if the owner wishes not to wait until 2021 to unveil the car at the 2021 MCACN in November, yes a long time to wait. I get that.
If you decide to show off the car painted or teaser pics in this thread or on any other wed site....this will void your unveiling chances.
Sorry but those are the rules....and the rules are the SAME for everyone. No one is being singled out!

Adam you are doing a fantastic job......It is your choice and the owners choice on what you want to do going forward.

See you all in 2021 :)

I'm not sure exactly how MCACN works but the "official" unveilings I've seen @ MCACN were a big deal. I got the feeling (I could be totally wrong here) that this wasn't that type but more of an unofficial "unveiling" in that it's the 1st time the completed car would be shown in public?

Good point Dano. I got the feeling (and I could be totally wrong here too) that based on Adam's comments of "I'm torn between continuing to post photos of the car, since it's supposed to be unveiled at MCACN. Since 2020 is moved to 2021, that means any public photos will have to wait until after the 2021 show" that this car was scheduled to be an official MCACN unveiling. If that's not the case then obviously all of my comments do not apply.

Waiting an extra year to let this beautiful car be seen would be hard to do.

    Dan,

You are correct.....We just do not want to see any pictures prior to the "Unveiling".....last year when we finished the Hurst "Shifty Doctor" Van....we rolled it into the convention center at 2:00am.
Not one single picture was placed on any website prior to the unveiling. Again....those are the rules.

If I was restoring this Buick....and I would want to have the car unveiled at the 2021 MCACN....I would remove your teaser photo.

    Just saying.

So it does depend on whether it's an "official" MCACN "unveiling" or an unofficial (i.e. just the 1st time the car is being showed in public) "unveiling."

Based on Adam removing the teaser pic maybe it is the former?

Maybe Adam will clarify. Regardless, looking forward to seeing it next year!

I bet you $5 the owner has forgotten that (they) own this car... ;):D:D. And when you inform them that it is (theirs), will say something along the lines of "f*ck... when the hell did I buy this one?" LOL

It's killing me not posting updates. But I will say again that the Gardner exhaust system is well worth the cost if you plan on installing it yourself. It took me about an hour and a half once I had the car on the lift. Perfect fit...no surprise there!

The rechromed door handles and remote mirror came last week, and I got them installed earlier this week.
